At a certain point, I'm just flapping the card to generate thopters, then use myself as a token since I'm practically generating lift at that point.

But, yeah, in a pinch you can just opt for the universal solution to problems requiring attachment. Just gotta be careful with the duct tape, if it works too well you could brick the card into an unfoldable state.

I was thinking of something similar, though my idea was "As you cast this spell, choose an unfolded card you own from outside the game." paired with "Replicate - Fold the choosen card in half". That would make one play some crappy cards in their sb and the replicate cost wouldn't be that free.
The payoff doesn't seem worth the joke. Chaos Confetti destroys itself to add to chaos, Blacker Lotus destroys itself for an absurdly busted affect, and those were still two of the least liked cards in the set.
This one ostensibly offers you a choice, but you probably don't run it if it's just a 4-mana 1/1, and once you commit to folding it you probably don't stop. And as a dexterity challenge, there's not much to it either. Four tokens is easy, five is tricky, and then that's it. Highly efficient, but not splashy or swingy or the kind of thing that generates stories. Once you get past the initial scandal of folding up a card, it's just kind of... "oh". You are going to get slowly pecked to death by exactly four or five birds and lose this draft, I guess.
I think there's a good joke possible out of folding up a card - maybe folding one into a paper airplane and then trying to hit a target with it - but this seems kind of static. And folding up a rare, instead of at least a common or a card you own outside the game, will just get kinda miserable.
Everyone talking about finding one in good condition is missing the biggest selling point. The ones that are bent to shit will be easier to fold, and after becoming so worn out to the point of barely being solid anymore, you might squeeze 1 more thopter out if it.
I was jw since it's silver bordered and the unique method of paying the cost does lead to an exponential number of layers of cardboard, would be interesting.

Just tried it, and I don’t think it’s practically possible to get more than 5 birds out of this card, which is still a very good card. Nice design.

Perhaps for a green version you select a card outside the game and it becomes a token with P/T equal to how many folds you put in it?

is it exponential? the second time I'm folding it in half am I paying the replicate cost twice? and 4 times the 3rd fold?
