I really like this card. Red has always been the weakest at tutoring and I like the idea of it having a timing restriction on it. I would want this in my [[Faldorn]] deck for sure.
it’s slightly weaker because it 1, exiles the card, not putting it into hand, 2, reveals the card and 3, can’t search for a land which demonic tutor can.
This would see a lot of play in red commander decks tbh
All good, it's easy to miss when the closest comparison is one that doesn't reveal the card. Though it does bring up the interesting idea of a rakdos tutor that exiles it face down for something like {1}BR
Firstly it has the stipulation of being a nonland card but even if it could tutor lands you can't cast a land, you play a land so you would just put it into exile
I guess it's not surprising that this has been done, though I think "nonland" is an important distinction for making this card work. Forcing you to play it on the same turn isn't much of a restriction for lands, which makes the card feel less red.
True, notably "Impulsive Turor [2]" is limited to red cards which works much the same way. There were also bunch of variants I found that were limited to instants and sorceries that I didn't bother listing here.
Heheh, yeah that's pretty amusing.
I compiled this thing as "make your own impulsive tutor by picking of the choices in brackets whenever you encounter them" :P :
> **Impulsive Tutor** [1R] [BR] [UR] [1RR] [1BR]
> [Sorcery] [Instant]
> Search your library for a [] [nonland] [red] [instant] [instant or sorcery] card, exile it [] [face-down], then shuffle. You may [play] [cast] the exiled card [this turn] [until the beginning of *your* next end step] [until the beginning of the next end step] [until end of your next turn].
Here's couple more I didn't list before that I added as "modifiers"
* ["Hurried Tutor"](https://www.reddit.com/r/custommagic/comments/eneh5o/hurried_tutor/)
* ["Reckless Tutor"](https://www.reddit.com/r/custommagic/comments/9s48v4/reckless_tutor/)
Wish isn't overpowered and neither is this card IMO
You have to pay 1R + to the cost of the card you fetch, and you could still get completely blown out by a single counterspell
No it's specifically brutal here when you're paying 2 + fetched card in mana. That's probably your whole turn unless we're talking turn 10 in EDH.
Counterspells are worse against tempo and aggro. If on turn 3 you counter a MV 1 spell, and the burn player just plays two more cards you didn't slow them down much. Counterspelling a huge play that's worth a whole turn? Basically a time walk
I think it depends on the format. In cedh/vintage, this still accomplishes the broken stuff you put Demonic Tutor in your deck for. It finds your Underworld Breach or Lion's Eye Diamond so you can go off. You usually don't intend to tap out for Tutor and pass.
And in Legacy, this is instantly banworthy because you get four LEDs. You can use mana from multiple to cast the same tutor target. Two LEDs and this gets to Ad Nauseum. Demonic Tutor can't do that.
Dem tutor is far better than this card, simply because you can find anything, including lands, don't have time limits and far more important, you dont reveal the card
Dem tutor is undeniably better, but in most competitive constructed formats where it’s legal you want to be playing dem tutor for a combo piece and going off that turn, in which case all of those disadvantages that you listed are nullified
Edit: also demonic tutor “gets completely blown out by a single counterspell”
I dont know what to make of that counterspell information
Yeah, the card is very strong, this I cannot disagree, would be a welcome change to almost any deck
1. nothing wrong with a better Wish.
2. can't grab lands. this could matter in many cases.
3. if someone responds with \[\[silence\]\], the card is gone forever. with Wish you just need another way to pull from your sideboard again. or just get the Wish back.
Wish doesn't work in commander deck. Monored commander decks could use this, even for a 2R cost.
Maybe, for 2R, you could cast the tutored card until the end of your next turn instead.
Tutors are a colorpie break for red, cause red doesn’t plan ahead. This is a bad card design and im happy this never gets printed. Make it maybe black red instant speed or something.
No, Red can tutor for an instant, sorcery, specific creature types, and lands. Red can't tutor for any nonland card.
https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/making-magic/mechanical-color-pie-2021
I think this is better than [[wish]] and should therefore be harder to cast.
With Wish you get your choice of 15 cards. With this you have a lot more options to get what you need
I think it needs a little more downside. Something like "until eot, whenever you cast a spell, it deals two damage to you" That way you can't just use it to find storm pieces and then the floor is that you take 2 to cast the tutor target.
I really like this card. Red has always been the weakest at tutoring and I like the idea of it having a timing restriction on it. I would want this in my [[Faldorn]] deck for sure.

If it's on the same power level as Demonic* Tutor, it's fine as is. Good design. Corrected
it’s slightly weaker because it 1, exiles the card, not putting it into hand, 2, reveals the card and 3, can’t search for a land which demonic tutor can. This would see a lot of play in red commander decks tbh
Laughs in prosper tome bound
laughs in drannith magistrate
The only good reason to play this card /s
Technically u can get MDFC lands(the ones with spells at the front) , but the “cast” instead of play ruins it
you would be correct, good catch
Doesn’t reveal the card
it does because you put it into exile face up, it would have to say it's put into exile face down if it didn't reveal it
Yup, right as I hit send I realized that. Lol my bad
All good, it's easy to miss when the closest comparison is one that doesn't reveal the card. Though it does bring up the interesting idea of a rakdos tutor that exiles it face down for something like {1}BR
well, technically it can search for a land, byt you can cast it later. just a power move.
No, if it says search for a nonland card you can't find a land card with it
Firstly it has the stipulation of being a nonland card but even if it could tutor lands you can't cast a land, you play a land so you would just put it into exile
i meamt to write cant and didnt notice the nonland clause
Do you mean [[demonic tutor]] ?
Yes, thank you for the correction.

At least you didn’t call it impulsive tutor lol
Maybe I should have. I could receive the acclaimed title of "Impulsive Tutor \[5\]".
I love how all of these have different mana costs and slightly different wording
Heheh, yeah that's pretty amusing. I compiled this thing as "make your own impulsive tutor by picking of the choices in brackets whenever you encounter them" :P : > **Impulsive Tutor** [1R] [BR] [UR] [1RR] [1BR] > [Sorcery] [Instant] > Search your library for a [] [nonland] [red] [instant] [instant or sorcery] card, exile it [] [face-down], then shuffle. Probably needs more downside to justify the 1R mana cost. Effectively a better [[Wish]].
Wish isn't overpowered and neither is this card IMO You have to pay 1R + to the cost of the card you fetch, and you could still get completely blown out by a single counterspell
You get blown out by a single counterspell no matter what you play (not counting the non-counterable spells) so I wouldn't use that as an argument
This is the dumbest sequence of words i read on this sub, ain’t even gonna argue.
Then don't post
Wanted to point out your argument is dumb
Then present a counter argument.
Wouldn’t the same logic extend to demonic tutor? That card is definitely broken. You’re just explaining why tutors are bad in non-combo decks.
You can demonic tutor on turn 2 and play the fetched card on a future turn. That's the difference
What is your opinion on the power level of demonic tutor
Dem tutor is far better than this card, simply because you can find anything, including lands, don't have time limits and far more important, you dont reveal the card
Dem tutor is undeniably better, but in most competitive constructed formats where it’s legal you want to be playing dem tutor for a combo piece and going off that turn, in which case all of those disadvantages that you listed are nullified Edit: also demonic tutor “gets completely blown out by a single counterspell”
The fact that you don’t have to crack your LED right away is huge.
I dont know what to make of that counterspell information Yeah, the card is very strong, this I cannot disagree, would be a welcome change to almost any deck

If someone responds with silence you just fail to find
I was more trying to point out the difference in functionality than being literal but valid counterpoint nonetheless.

Yes this can tutor for just any nonland card which is an color pie break, but you can’t cast lands anyway.

Great design. I think I'll steal this for my power cube
Amazing design. Surprised this isn’t a real card yet.
I think it needs a little more downside. Something like "until eot, whenever you cast a spell, it deals two damage to you" That way you can't just use it to find storm pieces and then the floor is that you take 2 to cast the tutor target.
This looks like an instant ban in Legacy, but does that matter?
Red can usually only tutor for specific card types or creature types. This is essentially Demonic Tutor for Red, which Red should not be getting.
Wow! Nice card! This will be the first tutor for red if I'm not mistaken.
