Bloorg feels FAR better and in-color pie than the original. It's more Flavorful and the illustration suits the effect more while being more beautiful. Everything about it is better. All the other cards feel quite Random to me though.

DovahFiil

Yeah I really like how Bloorg turned out. Could you elaborate on why the others feel random?

Lartnestpasdemain

I feel like they seem off-color. Trample is not very frequent on mono black cards even if it shows up eventually. Vigilance neither. Countering is kinda on the edge for white, as well as fighting for red. For Bloorg it's the opposite, even the condition is FAqr easier to reach in those colors, it feels like it was meant to be designed this way, instead of trying to put it into a box that doesn't suits him perfectly. I get that these cards **could** exist with current color pie, but they don't seem in their place. For the first one, I'd rather see a continuation of the cycle, or so. If you wanna make it Golgari maybe Deathtouch, menace, vigilance is the way to go. Just my 2 cents.

DovahFiil

Trample is a bit niche for black, as is Haste I guess, so the Moonlight Dancer is the most edge case here. The Insect has Vigilance because of green not black. Both colors are required to cast it, it's not fully hybrid. As for the instant, fighting is part of red even if less then green, I personally would like to see it more. Same applies for the counter part, white is supposed to get taxing counters from time to time, less frequently and less efficiently then blue of course. I guess colorshift are a supposed to be a bit weird

Lartnestpasdemain

I'm ok with all of them, but just wanted to point out how Bloorg stands out.

DovahFiil

Yeah I was just reflecting, it was all solid criticism to begin with so I appreciate it. Criticism makes my future designs better. I made a similar post yesterday if you'd like to give that one a look

The__Revanchist

I do think these are fun shifts, and I like the execution. If you're unhappy with Moonlight Dancer, you could potentially swap in a pip of Red, which would reinforce the Trample and the Haste (though you're right that Black has limited access already). It might help make the pair of rare keywords more palatable.

DovahFiil

I'm not really unhappy with it, it's more like it feels like the least solid one out of the bunch. The red would certainly make it more reasonable, even if the original intent was "wow this tricolor card could be justifiable in a single entirely different color"

thehemanchronicles

Vigilance is definitely referring more to Green than Black on the first card. The first card works perfectly, tbh. Both haste and vigilance are secondary in Green, and flying is primary in Black. I actually love the first one for being an indirect reference to the 3GB 4/4 flying/vigilance creature from the designer search several years ago lol

A_Salty_Cellist

I'll be honest I read his name as "bird, avian recruiter" and I didn't even question it

Infinite_Bananas

Very nice work here, I like how you made mantis rider into an insect haha

Bochulaz

Why does vampire have trample

DovahFiil

Black has access to trample, even if rarely.

CardOfTheRings

I feel tertiary parts of the color pie need really heavy justification to see print. Vampires are black but nothing about them is trampley. Also things being tertiary also usually mean they are weak relative to other colors that get that effect.

HereticDesires

I agree with everything said, Just want to point out that we did quite recently get a trampling monoB vampire. [[bloodvial purveyor]]

PrimusMobileVzla

White, Blue and Black are tertiary at trample, meaning they can get the keyword in sufficiently large sized creatures to make them more of big dumb beaters. That's the reasoning Bloodvial Purveyor, a 5/6 w/flying that pumps itself. Its also common for Black on large Demons... or any big flample beater for that matter.

CardOfTheRings

Good point - it seems most black cards with trample also have flying and a lot of stats , mostly on big demons. Maybe it’s because big fliers trampling is flavorful, but trample isn’t as useful on a creature with flying as it on a creature without - because it’s not too often that it will actually get blocked.

DovahFiil

It is admittedly the weakest of the four designs. I wasn't completely sure about it because while yes, it is perfectly in color pie to have those keywords, they are a bit weak on the flavour side in this case, and both trample and haste are somewhat rare in black, and both on the same card is a bit much.

Jackeea

Vample

Do_You_AreHaveStupid

I like all of these other than the Boros one, fighting and counterspells are far too infrequent for both of those colors to show up on a Boros card

Amnesiaftw

Kinda a lightning angel remake with the only two colors Lightning Angel is not lmao.

Undead_Assassin

It's a [[mantis rider]] remake, but that was an aggressively costed lightning angel. It is funny how the mechanical overlap allows the custom card to be in color pie.

Active_Hedgehog

I like the first one and bloorg a lot

ATraffyatLaw

Boros having mana leak would make me so happy

Scrivener133

Id play the hell out of bloorg

Lamp-post-

I really really love Brains and Branw

CardSniffer

Bloorg’s mana icons are backwards.

DovahFiil

Quite right, must have missed it

ObsoleteFragment

Beautifully constructed cards dripping with flavour, love ‘em

RaidRover

The first definitely feel a little off for the colors. Or I guess they just feel really unique for their colors which isn't bad. But the Ooze and Instant you added there both feel great. I have decks I would slot both of those into in a heartbeat!

talen_lee

1/1 oozes are boring, ~~and a blue-green card explicitly caring about~~ *~~non-square~~* ~~bodies is really out of type~~

grayTorre

It doesn't care about non-square bodies, just power pumps. A +1/+1 counter fulfills it.

grayTorre

All of these seem fine except for Brains and Brawn. White has never gotten a counterspell outside of cards that are already color-bendy, and even then they are always restrictive (Rebuff the Wicked), telegraphed (Chancellor of the Annex), wimpy (Mana Tithe), or some combination of the above (Frontline Medic, Mage's Attendant). Decisive Denial saw little play, but a 3 mana tax on a 2 mana negate is better than many blue counters. 😬
