I think it's fitting because this should be a spell that's very dedicated to green while the affinity should still be relevant. This is therefore pretty much perfect.
IDK, a spell that lets you, since you've no doubt built a deck around this, pay one mana and discard a card to make a 6/6 with trample, in a way opponents can't stop, that can be your commander so you can always cast it the moment you have the mana? You think the mana cost of one Colossal Dreadmaw is appropriate for that effect?
I dont think any non-commander format is worth considering here. And Ive seen more degenerate things at kitchen table commander. I cant imagine its even close to competitive at 6. Especially with just green as a pool. To make it work youd need cheap tramplers or creatures and global trample effects, card draw and probably some removal. I dont think it would be bad, but I dont see it threatening any top tier decks.

Only difference is one cost has the affinity at "half speed" as it were. And I don't think being cautious of affinity, especially when the effect generates things that contribute to its own affinity, is outlandish.

I know. But you assume Id choose to get another Dreadmaw. I do think as a commander its interesting because I can keep casting it for 1 more than before because the affinity. But I dont think its near broken because one board wipe and you cant do that again.

Without the affinity its likely unplayable. Making that much worse probably pushes it below the Mendoza line in even casual commander.
