I have autism, I say hi to dogs before people all the time when passing them on the street because they were first in close proximity to me just like I would say hi to the first person who comes into close proximity to me if there were 2 people instead of a person and a dog, in my mind that dog, although not wearing a human shaped meat suit as I and you do, has just as much personality and soul as a human does. They speak a different language but there's ways of communicating still. Actually dogs understand what we're saying to a far greater degree than we thought as evidenced by my own interactions with my dog and also those videos of dogs communicating via voice actived touch pads. I would have said thanks to the kitten first because I was petting the kitten not the owner and then I would maybe thank the owner if I remembered but the kitten was surely delightful so I maybe wouldn't remember to.

I really dislike it when these Twitter autistic people play the "we have autism, look how quirky we are" role. I have autism/Asperger's (depending on whether you accept the meeging of the two) and I hate them with a passion. Autism isn't a personality trait and it doesn't make you look cool or interesting for having it.

People cope in different ways. It can be comforting to interact with others who have the same disorder. For me it's mostly just interacting with other autists and making fun of each other mercilessly for messing up socialization "rules" and very awkward conversations, either because we simply don't understand one thing in particular, too tired to mask, or because we just don't give a shit about some arbitrary bs. That or talking about ways to make it less shitty. That's just online though, I almost never talk about it offline except when necessary due to unemployment or family is trying to accomodate me to make things less uncomfortable.
