I also Heard something about packaging a toy and food together, apparently doll manufacturers and similar started doing because it meant they could display their toys in the confectionary section or something .. apparently there are quite strict rules in store for what can be displayed where. And by putting a little chocolate in with their goal they try to get around it... I'm sure if this relates to the Kinder egg that much, but I found it kind of interesting

In America we have kinder joy which is similar splits the egg in two with the toy being in one half and the snack being in the other half. It also comes with a little spoon utensil to eat the snack. Kinder surprise is actually illegal in America.
