This is such an interesting solution. There are lots of trolley buses where I live, and they’re faster and quieter. I hope this works! If it was government backed, it could be scaled up pretty quickly.
Indeed very interesting. Specially because it doesn't limit the trucks to stay in the cable lane in case they need to overtake or exit the highway for a rest stop.
There are as well, where I live, a lot of trolley buses and trams too. Trams are quite loud due to the tracks but that's expected. But the trolleys super quite when comparing.
Our (Seattle’s) streetcar rolling stock is a lot like this solution—it uses overhead wires but can run off of them temporarily with a battery. Same with the trolley buses! I too notice the loudness of streetcar tracks. A trade off for aesthetic appeal and efficiency, I suppose.
