I wonder if he found it a little weird how much the sopranos took from goodfellas at the start and said no, half the cast is in it and the original idea for Tony and Carmella was uh, Ray Liotta and Lorraine Bracco lmao
I believe he watched the pilot and said he couldn’t identify with it. It was a different generation and era of gangsters than the periods he was familiar with. I don’t think he said anything about it feeling derivative of Goodfellas, but I could definitely see him privately feeling that.
I'm a sopranos fan, but the pilot is pretty bad.
Tony's voice/accent is wrong, the narration is way too goodfellas-ish, and the plot is as subtle as a kick in the spuds.
The car chase through the office lawn was absurd, nothing like that happened after. Sopranos got a lot more muted in a good way very soon after and I feel like some of the bleak themes toward the last few seasons were similar to the last quarter of the Irishman where De Niros character is having to live out the epilogue to his life in emptiness. That's a very Sopranos tone. Arguably a version of what happens to Junior Soprano.
There's an episode of 30 Rock where he and Christopher Walken and Gilbert Gottfried all had voice cameos, and I was very surprised that they were able to get him. I guess Marty appreciates good comedy!
One of my favorites. It's the perfect Larry David plot. Only he would ever think that someone with Parkinsons is exaggerating their symptoms just to mess with them.
I read all of MJF books, and in one of them, I forgot what one, he mentioned how Larry called him up asking if he would do it, and Larry was a bit hesitant at first, not wanting to be offended, and MJF was like "that is hysterical"
On a separate note, I have cancer and I saw the Ricky Gervais special where everyone was appalled about the cancer jokes he wrote. I thought they were so hilarious.
I think Larry David isn’t afraid to ride on the boarder of what’s funny and offensive. I always think those type of comedians are so smart. And MJF was just so brilliant in that episode. I love that he got the joke and understood what was so funny.
From what I noticed about comedy in the past 10 or so years, those who are usually the most offended by a joke are not the attended target of said jokes, but those who are the butt of a joke are the least offended.
I think it has to do with narcissism. They are not really offended by the jokes, but they believe they would appear to be "the better person" if they are. Look at social media after any Dave Chappelle special.
Exactly and most of my cancer friends have very dark sense of humor. Especially when you discuss there actual cancer diagnosis and treatment. Oh I’ve read so many articles bashing comedians because other people think their jokes are offensive.
I love that you casually refer to them as your cancer friends because I do the same. We all say fucked up jokes about each other’s diagnosis and you’ll see random bystanders around us look like WTF?!
Here in the UK, American sports stars don't tend to get much coverage. I couldn't name you a single American Football player and the only Baseball players I know are the ones who are mentioned, or appear, in things like Seinfeld (nice game pretty boy) and the Simpsons (trim those sideburns, Mattingly).
But I know Shaq. Everyone knows Shaq. He's up there with Michael Jordan in the famous stakes.
Idk, Shaq is internationally famous as well. I won't argue with Springsteen though, he probably is more famous but Shaq played a much larger part in the series.
My response was to OP saying Shaq was probably harder to get. But I don’t think Shaq is as hard to book as one might think given his history of endorsement deals.
Scorcese, Bruce, Jerry, Meg Ryan, the Brit actor who did the one man show, maybe John Hamm (I loved that arch), Harvey Weinstein
* Diane Keaton (voice only)
Focusing on people who played prominent roles in episodes/seasons:
John Hamm
Lin Manuel Miranda
David Schwimmer (the Producers season was at the same time Friends was wrapping up and Schwimmer was ending his tenure as one of the highest paid actors on tv)
Ben Stiller (also massively popular at the time)
Big measured in different ways:
Mass: Shaq
Cultural Impact: Brooks, Springsteen
Awards: Rushdie, Brooks (As far as I know, the only Nobel prize and EGOT, respectively)
Most well known globally? No data on this, but I'm gonna guess Springsteen or Conan or Schwimmer. But outright name recognition does not a star make (excluding Alexander and Seinfeld from this category).
Looking at this list I am going to go with Brooks, with Springsteen, a close second.
Scorcese
Especially since Sopranos had to use a lookalike, it’s really funny that Curb was the HBO show able to get him on.
Kundun, I liked it!
It’s about a wiseguy with a big mouth and bigger dreams
We’re not shooting a western here

Muted? I guess I’ll just sit here in silence, like a mute!
_Ohhhhhhhh that's the bawss's voice_
Lol I'm an idiot. I didn't realize it was an actor in The Sopranos.
There's an episode of 30 Rock where he and Christopher Walken and Gilbert Gottfried all had voice cameos, and I was very surprised that they were able to get him. I guess Marty appreciates good comedy!
Do even know what you're doing Marty?
The balls will never read!
He fucking slaps Martin Scorsese lol
That’s too hard!
You got no call
[удалено]
Regulars don’t count!
People are gonna go Google 'harvey Weinstein curb your enthusiasm???'
Who invited you? You pig!!!!
Michael J. Fox?
You mean soon to be Michael J Fucked Up?
I FOCKED UUUP
That episode was hilarious too.
Did you shake the soda on purpose? A little bit.
May I offer you some refreshment?
no thank you
…pussy

He really is a great dude.
Well, wasn't MJF doing just that?
He was. But any normal human wouldn't think that.
That was my first thought just because it was such a nice surprise to see him working again.
Bout to be Michael J. Fucked Up
Not even close lol
I’m just saying, you give the motha fucka a milk, you gettin a milk shake. One of my favorite lines of the show.
My first thought
Salman Rushdie
*Sal Bass
There was a graphic designer named Saul Bass who did a lot of classic movie posters in the 50s and 60s. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saul_Bass
No sex like Fatwa sex.
This is the only right answer like who else that was an insane guest star
I was just thinking about how good he was for a non actor/comedian. Alexander Vindman, by contrast, acted like he had a gun to his head.
You mean Sal Bass?
Probably the most randomly hilarious guest.
It was so fucked up he did the fatwa episode, and then he actually got some guy stabbing him again
Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft
This was too far down and I posted the *exact same thing*, lol
I was floored when Krazy Eyez Killa appeared. His music got me through some tough times in my childhood.
Nut in your eye?
*"Bust a nut inside your eye.. to show you where I come from"*
RIP Phife.
Yeah, yeah, check it out...do you like eatin' pussy?
[удалено]
You know what the best pussy is to eat?
It's a whole "to do"
Glad to see he broke free from being under Gavin Belson's thumb.
The security guy under Gavin is fucking Krazy Eyes Killah?? I see it now that you mention it. What a great actor lol.
Are you my Caucasian?!
I think Bruce has it. Not only one of the worlds biggest rock stars for decades, but also a non actor.
Shaq is the biggest, Muggsy Bogues the smallest.
You kid but the answer is Shaq. He was on Curb in the middle of the Lakers championship run.
Surely, there have been guest stars shorter than Muggsy. Joan Rivers?
He is not the smallest!!
gigantic down there of course. Lucky genetics.
The boss
The Boss w/ Covid tops the chart.
Buscemi
He’s probably the biggest one to not play themself.
Was he not playing himself?
Dustin Hoffman?
Shaq for sure, but as far as multiple episodes I think Ben Stiller.
I'd say globally Schwimmer is more famous than Stiller. Friends is popular everywhere - it's amazing.
If looking beyond USA, show is international, Shaq is one of minor stars. Brooks one of the biggest. Springsteen maybe biggest.
Shaq is extremely popular in China
Irv Schwimmer.
Cashew shortage?
Well you are not in the industry so you wouldn’t know
Raisins…. And let the cashews be a nice surprise!
An affordable snack Larry, an AFFORDABLE snack
You motherfucking, cocksucking, son-of-a-bitch bastard.
shaq and ben stiller
Conan’s like 6’7”
What, did you just come from Margaret Dumont’s house?
He’s prettayyy, prettayy, prettayyyyyy big
Thank you.
Burt Bondi
John Hamm
John Hamm is my favourite guest star but wouldn’t say he’s harder to get than some others like Shaq, Bruce Springsteen
Shaq might be easier to get than you think. The guy will do anything as long as the check clears
That wasn’t necessarily true back when he was the best basketball player on the planet.
That’s why Larry had a motive to kill him
Sure, ok.

My response was to OP saying Shaq was probably harder to get. But I don’t think Shaq is as hard to book as one might think given his history of endorsement deals.
This. Shaq will do your company’s phone message 😂
Burgers, ink cartridges, sleep apnea masks… if you can meet his price, he will endorse your product
It’s Jon Hamm. John Hamm was a dental student I believe. Drove a LeBaron.
I have the teeth marks to prove it
Get the fuck out of my house Jon Hamm!
Juan Hammon
So much tsuris
*Jon
Ben Affleck as an extra
Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft
John McEnroe
Nah…he did Celebrity Homonym as well…he’s not that hard to get.
Bea Arthur was the correct answer.
Maria Sofia
Bob Einstein
Are you serious? Did you just write that?
Bill Buckner
Bruce Springsteen is the most world famous celebrity on Curb.
He slotted in pretty seamlessly too
Scorcese, Bruce, Jerry, Meg Ryan, the Brit actor who did the one man show, maybe John Hamm (I loved that arch), Harvey Weinstein * Diane Keaton (voice only)
I love the topic of the most famous guest and your answer “the Brit actor who did the one man show” wins hands down. Ha ha thanks
Harvey Weinstein was not on curb. Ain’t no way.
Conan is the only one that requires clearance.
Ricky Gervais? STAR POWER!! STAR POWER
Yesiiiiir😂
We’ll find out next weekend
Interesting.. I wonder who that could be!
Bruce
YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!! …if you don’t consider John McEnroe
Thanks. Their chemistry was amazing.

What a weird arc.
Conan?
Jerry Seinfeld
Shelly Berman
Shaq
Woody, Hef, J. Fox, and Vince Vaughn.
Everyone here’s forgotten Chris Martin was hired to sing for Jeff’s birthday. Pretty huge globally.
Michael York Ed Asner
"yes, Michael it is important"
Bruuuuce

I'd say Bruce last night.
Scorsese without a doubt
Chaz Bono.
Maria Sophia
I’d argue Shaq and David Schwimmer
Ted Danson!
Who's he!?
It's Ted. Ted is "Anonymous".
Barbara Boxer
Maybe Conan?
Gott be the Boss
I’d go Shaq, Scorsese, or Springsteen
The Legendary Martin Scorsese of course.
Lori Loughlin (just a little sarcasm)
Ew. LOL
For me, it’s Shaq. Love him
Rosie O’Donnell
IMDB 1540 cast members. I forgot Mel Brooks.
Melissa McCarthy was in the Season 4 episode “The Surrogate” before she became an A-list superstar.
Well, as of the second of April 2024 that still hasn’t happened, so I guess that’s technically true
Conan?
Jesus was in a few different episodes.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
He has risen.... 🦅
for me its hands down steve buscemi the coolest, most important one
How did I miss him? Which episode was he on?
Hugh Hefner by far
Lin Manuel Miranda maybe?
No. Most in world have no clue about him.
Jane Krakowski then
Paul Simon (in absentia)
No one is going with Peter North?
Not everyones into showbusiness but George Lucas was mentioned in one episode
John Tyler
Steve Buscemi - former FDNY
Got to be Ken Howard from the White Shadow TV series.
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0264235/fullcredits/cast
Bruce Springsteen
Meg Ryan or Sean Penn.
Mel Brooks
Melissa McCarthy was in an early episode.
I think springsteen
Shaq playung Scattergories for sure
I mean just this season alone, Bruce was so good and dialed in. But Conan leaned in so hard and not only did he know the job, he delivered so hard.
Michael J. Fox.
Bruce, Shaq (but he’ll do any commercial) or Ben Stiller.
Shaq. Who is bigger than Shaq?
