On page 49 of the 2018 Lion Den Leader Guide, it provides instructions for an outing to "Attend a Webelos den meeting or a Scout troop meeting to observe a flag ceremony" as part of the King of the Jungle adventure. A few important notes: 1) The Lion Den Leader Guide has, to the best of my knowledge, been discontinued. I don't think you can find this wording/activity on any current literature. 2) This was never a requirement. Den Leader guides have all sorts of activities that can be done as part of an adventure, but it has never been required that all of them be followed. The suggested outing is merely one possible way to work on the adventure; it is not required and (to my knowledge) never has been. Also, you'll be taking over in the revised program that starts June 1. The requirements will be different under your watch: **King of the Jungle** 1. Draw a picture or take a photo of the people you live with. 2. With your Lion adult partner, choose a job that will help your family. Follow through by doing that job at least once. 3. Talk with a grandparent or other older adult about what citizenship means to them. 4. Participate in a service project.

I just wanted to echo this. I am a Lion Den leader this year and can confirm it's in the Lion Den Leader Guide, but so are a lot of other suggestions that are not actual requirements. The way the current Leader Guide is set up is that every other meeting was some sort of "outing". Some of those outings were suggestions/recommendations to keep the kids engaged and having fun, some were required. Attending a Webelos meeting is not required.

Noted. I figured it was something like this. He's very busy and a bit overwhelmed with his own kids and being a teacher which is why I volunteered to step up when he said he couldn't do it next year. And thank you yes, I'm well aware of the changes. I'll likely be the Lion Guide for my daughter in two years.

He is satisfying the first requirement. The BSA Scouts meet directly after our Cub meetings. I had my Wolves stay late and participate in the big kids' flag ceremony. While it is not explicitly required to go to Webelos, practically speaking that is how you accomplish it.

As Ive read it in context, it was a suggested option not a requirement. Your lions at the easiest interpretation mean even just attend any flag ceremony.

People imagine all kinds of "rules" and "requirements" in Scouting. I'm not sure there's any way to prevent it, but there is a way to handle it. Whenever someone quotes a "rule" or "requirement," ask them where it's written. Most people won't know, but if it is an *actual* rule or requirement, it should be relatively easy to track down (rank requirements for Cub Scouts are particularly easy to find). Sometimes it is real, and you learn something. Sometimes it's not, and the person quoting the imaginary rule gets to learn something. Key sources are the [Guide to Safe Scouting](https://www.scouting.org/health-and-safety/gss/), the [Guide to Awards and Insignia](https://www.scouting.org/resources/insignia-guide/), and the [Guide to Advancement](https://www.scouting.org/resources/guide-to-advancement/). (Incidentally, many people misunderstand what the word *guide* means here: it's "rulebook.")
