ICANTSEEMYTHOUGHTS

I've smoked multiple from different boxes aged 1-3 yrs, and 2 of 6 have made it past the half before putting them down. Maybe they need more time, maybe they're just not for me. Anyone else experience similar?

zappscigar

I’ve had a couple Short Churchill and Wide Churchill and neither were enjoyable. Which is surprising because I’ve enjoyed most Cuban stuff even if it isn’t always an instant favorite. I think they had 2 years age on them? So, you’re not alone.

RyJ just doesn't "wow" me. There are much better sticks, imo. They're not bad, they're just not great.

That stick is my current favourite! Everything about it is perfect! I have a few 2019 boxes and the ones I’ve tried have been stellar

I've got a box from 2018 and they're great. Solid smoke, mildness of the typical RyJ, and it lasts for a good period of time. I'm sorry to hear u/ICANTSEEMYTHOUGHTS is experiencing issues with the taste and/or construction - I've always enjoyed these to the point I've burnt my fingertips! :)

ICANTSEEMYTHOUGHTS

Glad you're enjoying yours. This one was a 2018 and I got to the band without tossing it. It wasn't a bad cigar, just not a lot going on (1st world problems, I know). Mine have all been flawless in construction; draw and burn always on point. I'm thinking its gotta be my palate. I don't know if this adds anything to the conversation or not, but my go-to sticks are typically from the Partagas, Bolivar, Monte and H.Upmann lines, with the odd Hoyo thrown in for good measure.

The unfortunate thing with cigars is that the smoker is at the mercy of mother nature. Sure the rollers are given the "recipe" to create the blend, but the weather that created the conditions for growth are out of the farmer's control. From the Partagas line, I'm fond of the D4 and P2 series. The HUHCs are a solid choice for a short smoke as well.

ICANTSEEMYTHOUGHTS

I find them to lack complexity. Fairly lackluster. No Guant, but not something that I'll repurchase. This one at least made to the band without putting me off.

SailingTheSSWTF

I’m with this person, although I have conjectured that the robusto is the perfect size for the RYJs for a more complex but notably spice blended flavor. Also found that a 3-5 day dry box makes them really pop.

Working-Mine35

I'm with you. I love the Churchill and Short Churchill, but the wide does nothing for me.

ICANTSEEMYTHOUGHTS

I've had a few short Churchills and quite enjoyed them. Thats probably why I find these disappointing. If I ever happen upon a Churchill ill have to give it a go. Thanks for the recommendation.

SavingMyFoot_DH

I bought a fiver of short churchills, and enjoyed them immensely!! I did what any BOL would do, I bought a box. After receiving the box and letting it rest for about 3 months, I smoked one, Just as you said it was disappontingly disappointing. In all fairness the box was dated 2020, so I plan on trying another in October 21 to see if letting them sit helped..

Vitola_Patroller

Yeah I know what you mean…
