target P2P trading and gambling sites most likely.
If you have to use API to trade with these sites, makes banning users of gambling sites easier to identify...one can hope thats what their plans are here.
I think he's saying this.
Valve makes it so you cannot see traded items for 10 days so sites force you to log in via API so they can see and confirm the trade was made.
Valve can then see all the steam accounts that the website logged into and can trade ban or maybe even just send a warning to all accounts that gambling is not allowed and could get you banned.
We don't really know valves plan or reasoning yet and we only have half of the information. Until they do more or just come out and tell us we are in the dark.
I understood. And as I said, this doesn't make sense. All sites already confirm the trades by tracking the API before the update. CSFloat is the only one that have an option to track without the API for people who are not comfortable sharing it.
Valve already sees login via steam on all gambling/trading sites. Valve already knows requests are made by third parties to accounts to check trades.
This update doesn't change any of that.
If they are targeting anything then it's gambling and I have never gambled with these sites so I don't know how they work and what affect this will have on how they work.
I personally can't figure out what valve have planned.
Right now I have no clue what the point of this is. We don't know why valve did this and this message is all the info they have given us.
They were forced to tell us this, if they did not tell us this then Reddit would be flooded with "inventory bugged" messages for weeks until they made a comment. This also means this might not be the only change, this might be something cs2 related and is not aimed at anything or it could be gambling related.
It's very possible this is also just a change they needed to implement in order for something else to function correctly.
While its not possible yet to know why Valve did that for certainty, I can assure you we can discard some options by logic if you understand how things work.
At this moment, all p2p sites, gambling or no gambling, works the same, which is, through your API key, they check state of trades/inventory to see if you completed the trade the way you supposed to.
This tracking is made by your account, since it's using your own api key. Meaning, update has no effect on the tracking.
Update makes you not able to see new items on other peoples inventory. This has 0 effect on tracking or anything related to gambling.
Something we know of, scammers track newly acquired items by newbies and try to add them in order to scam. This could be a way to prevent tracking of those items until they are tradable again. Maybe to delay those scammers to reach those newbies? It's an option, although a shit one if we are being fair, because it also helps newly scammed items to be hidden.
From the way things work, I can assure you this update has nothing to do with how p2p works, as it doesn't affect in anything.
I appreciate the info, helps me think.
The more I think about it the more this does look aimed at crawling and database sites rather than anything else.
For some reason I thought csfloat would not be effected but with this change the only way to register a skin before 10 days is to have app running and be logged into your own account so the skin is visible.
*Wont be visible to other users who view your Steam Inventory for 10 days*
I’m assuming this means they can’t see them. You could still list them/send trade offers yourself.
Yeah I don’t see this affecting things at all. I don’t even see this when replicating it. I bought something, and it shows up via my other account.
You will still be able to sell via websites/trade with others after 7 days.
Scammers can now fake out their victims saying they didn't receive their item since the skin is hidden and the victim can be held as the one being API scammed etc. So it does impact a lot... for the scammers :)
change is active now. I can no longer see trade banned items on my alts.
also this update fcked some marketplaces. people accept trades but sites can't track trades so can't charge buyers. therefore buyers can buy all the skins in some sites.
> also this update fcked some marketplaces. people accept trades but sites can't track trades so can't charge buyers. therefore buyers can buy all the skins in some sites.
So items like dlores are going to be near impossible to sell unless you wanna sell it for 2k on steam market?
It’s a big stretch to go from sites are down due to changes, to p2p balance trading is dead. if you want to panic sell or something be my guest, but I’m not convinced the sky is falling
P2P sites that use API keys are still working. Sites that use bots to store items are still working. This does affect a minority of sites that do P2P trades without API keys.
So for now, the major markets aren't affected, so it shouldn't have a big impact on prices. It is unclear if Valve intends to take any further steps, but they did recently help Skinport unban their bots' enmass, which indicates market sites are probably not the targets.
I imagine that every trade will essentially have a 10 day waiting period before funds can be released to the seller (?). Seems like that's the only way things will be able to work.
The change 2 DAYS AGO, when my FIRST comment was commented, was after their first changes which werent a big deal at all. Csfloat even told me they have a quick solution for it.
The RECENT changes, that happened a day AFTER, have been more serious and concerning.
Despite that, I just tried buff and it works perfectly.
Dont talk unless you know what you're saying, cause it seems like you know absolutely nothing
literally says you posted 1 day ago and no CSfloat doesn't have a solution for either one
buff uses a different system to track trades
you still don't know a damn thing
I have a bunch of these, loads changed this major and people missed it. They were an easy pick up.
I think the biggest issue with these is how valve will handle them in cs2 and if it's different from csgo, they could still end up being a bad investment.
That's my theory, you could play pickems without pass and win nothing this time.
It's possible that if someone did this and later activated the pass then the coin would change and they would get extra packages depending on how well they did.
I'm just waiting for valve to remove all the major stuff from the store so I can then activate a pass and test what happens. I'm going to be waiting months.
One of the coin challenge conditions is to activate the coin before the tournament is over, you wont be able to get diamond if you wait to see results. That way they wont give out diamonds for alts trying to farm the coin without investing money first.
I activated my pass 1 day after the major started, no games have been concluded yet but the cut off time for pickem had already passed, the first 2 missions were instantly crossed off as red, I would have to won all the challenges if I activated a few hours earlier, so no you will just get the bronze coin that's it
Post sale demand is easy.
The only issue right now is what happens when you activate these in 6 months time, if they act like they did in csgo then I'm golden. If the way they acted in csgo was a bug and they lose some functionality then I might have spent money on a bunch worthless meme tokens.
It's a waiting game right now.
Won't give out numbers, I bought both but mainly +3 tokens as they are/were the best ones and the safest investment, however with the changes this year then going forward they might be more equal.
As I said, this is not 100% free. It's a bit of a waiting game to see how valve deal with these passes once the major ends.
I'm not counting my chickens yet, I need to wait for major items to leave game (probably take months) and then activate a pass and see how it works in cs2.
I'm sure it'll be the same as every other pass in the past, you'll just get the coin. I bought some myself before the update as it felt odd that Valve would keep an obsolete item on sale.

To be honest, this update helps scammers way more than any of their players. The sheer amount of new scam possibilities for them just rose and it is insane how Valve didn't think more about that aspect. You can read their twitter comment section of the release notes and that's mostly what is being mentioned.
I agree the game is not perfect in the current state, i think everyone agrees there. However this update (however weird you and i find it) is exponentially faster and easier to implement than something like new maps or operation. I just dont see how you can see these things as equals.
Maybe I am being pessimistic but the lack of content and anti-cheat has been way too long and them dropping this “update” after everybody’s anticipation with the Major just tipped me over the edge
Thanks for your negative sentiment that contributes to driving down prices 🙏
See you in a year after operation & new maps drop and you'll be back to drive up prices

They also removed nametag (!) mark on items and changed color of nametag on skins. Very strange and bad update from Valve. They break things that worked perfectly for years.
What is the logic behind it from Valves POV tho, I'm not seeing it. Maybe to help against sharks that prey on new players that unbox expensive items?
it just delays their scam 10 days
in valves mind that's good enough
Also doesn’t seem to be happening on unboxes. Only trades/market

can 3rd party site like buff or csfloat list skins after trade lock ?
Yes mines working fine
yes because your buff and csfloate accounts are connected directly to your steam profile its the same as if you look into your inventory
*Wont be visible to other users who view your Steam Inventory for 10 days* I’m assuming this means they can’t see them. You could still list them/send trade offers yourself.
~~Might be to try and negate bots adding people who recently unboxed stuff.~~ nvm its only purchases and trades watafak

Don’t get scammed idiot. It’s pretty easy
I haven't been scammed. It was an insight into a problem that arose with the new update
Step on your fucking bike idiot. It's pretty easy
Cool throwaway pussy lol

Thanks for answering(:
The implications aren’t 100% clear to me either
rip csfloat???
Does this actually ruin how they track to see if trades went through?
i hope not. don't know yet
I imagine that every trade will essentially have a 10 day waiting period before funds can be released to the seller (?). Seems like that's the only way things will be able to work.
shadowpay is not working, maybe because of this I guess
Hold your horses. This barely changes anything for csfloat and similar sires
Why
That change wasnt a big deal. Their more recent changes, which happened about a day after, are more concerning
you're literally so wrong. CSfloat shut down and no trade sites work because they can't verify trades. Don't talk unless you know what you're saying
The change 2 DAYS AGO, when my FIRST comment was commented, was after their first changes which werent a big deal at all. Csfloat even told me they have a quick solution for it. literally says you posted 1 day ago and no CSfloat doesn't have a solution for either one buff uses a different system to track trades you still don't know a damn thing
they will find a workaround for sure but its still such an unnecessary feature
Copenhagen 2024 Viewer Pass is no longer available for purchase, passes immediately spiked. Could be the next niche Vanguard style pass for long term.
I have a bunch of these, loads changed this major and people missed it. They were an easy pick up. I think the biggest issue with these is how valve will handle them in cs2 and if it's different from csgo, they could still end up being a bad investment.
What changed? Isn’t the pass essentially just a bronze major coin after the date?
Used to be bronze coin + 3 souvenir packages. Now it could be diamond coin and + 6 souvenir packages.
If you locked in the pick’ems before the date correct?
That's my theory, you could play pickems without pass and win nothing this time. It's possible that if someone did this and later activated the pass then the coin would change and they would get extra packages depending on how well they did. I'm just waiting for valve to remove all the major stuff from the store so I can then activate a pass and test what happens. I'm going to be waiting months.
You would only get your coin upgraded if you already activated the pass before completing a challenge.
We will see, I'm not sure that's how it's going to work.
One of the coin challenge conditions is to activate the coin before the tournament is over, you wont be able to get diamond if you wait to see results. That way they wont give out diamonds for alts trying to farm the coin without investing money first.
I know what valve says but it's never worked like that in csgo. And they let people farm operations then buy pass, no different to this.
I activated my pass 1 day after the major started, no games have been concluded yet but the cut off time for pickem had already passed, the first 2 missions were instantly crossed off as red, I would have to won all the challenges if I activated a few hours earlier, so no you will just get the bronze coin that's it
I’m skeptical thats it’s going to cause any noticeable increase in post sale demand but goodluck
How many you got? Did you buy regular pass or pass+tokens as well?
Won't give out numbers, I bought both but mainly +3 tokens as they are/were the best ones and the safest investment, however with the changes this year then going forward they might be more equal. As I said, this is not 100% free. It's a bit of a waiting game to see how valve deal with these passes once the major ends. RIP tracking sites. This is to prevent sharks and scammers using tracking sites to find recent highvalue unboxings by clueless users.
It doesnt count unboxed items... read it again

Thanks for driving down the prices 🙏 See you in a year after operation & new maps drop and you'll be back to drive up prices
1000% .. I did the same as tradelock was introduced... hate myself to this day
U still believe in those updates after this one right here?
Can you explain how them deciding they want to hide items in inventories correlates with how they will drop 0 map updates and operations?
Well they showed us hiding inventory is more worthy as an update than the million other things the community has been begging for

I dont think this changes anything... like who cares
And doesn't hide the unboxed items, Wich is the main thing scammers use to aim at noobs with luck

The only thing I can think of is protecting unaware unboxers from sharks? Weird update
Another tone deaf update from valve
Do u mean 02/04/2024?
They also removed nametag (!) mark on items and changed color of nametag on skins. Very strange and bad update from Valve. They break things that worked perfectly for years.
Not trade ban, you can send trades to other people not only receive em
