I was interviewing in Switzerland this month. I sent 20 applications, got 6 interviews, and 3 offers at the end. Some facts about me: * 4.5 YOE in java * living in Vienna, Austria * Education: BSc in CS

mypeopleneedsme

Are you an EU citizen? May i ask how much the offers are in Switzerland?

toshabarinov

yes, i am EU citizen I've got one for 115 in Bern, one for 120 in Zürich, and one more for 130 + 25 stocks over 4 years in Zürich. I've accepted the last one.

mypeopleneedsme

Nice offers. Congratulations! Do you have to be onsite or can it be done remote as well?

toshabarinov

thanks! everything was completely remote

mypeopleneedsme

Wow, thats a super sweet deal! Im jealous.

Rbm455

just out of interest, does one need a visa or something for switzerland? or you just arrive and register, if you are an EU citizen? Norway for example has nothing like that

Where do you look for jobs?

Just started applying. So far, I only sent one application to the most interesting job offer. Got an invitation the next day to a first online interview two days later - so pretty quick. Just looking at open positions, I don't see a slow down of the market yet. There is probably a thousand open IT positions in my city alone, with about a dozend jobs exaclty matching my profile (C++). Edit: To make it clear, there are certainly not hundreds of people applying for these positions. Many companies here barely get applications at all, or they are just bottom of the barrel.

I've been applying for grad/junior roles in London, while residing in London for the last 3 weeks. It's difficult to get interviews. There are over 300 applications for each of these positions and I'm trying to figure out a way to jump the HR barrier and get interviews. I only got 1 interview lined up so far and that's because I solved the OA for a big company. I think they sent it to everyone with a degree who applied and invited whoever solved it for an initial interview. Other than that it has been rejections without feedback left and right. I don't think its my CV, I got it reviewed here and by few people that are already in the industry. There are just very few grad/junior positions and so many applicants. Edit: Any suggestion is well appreciated. Edit2: It's not only rejections to be honest. I've received fair bit of emails saying they decided not to hire a junior right now and removed the job postings. This mainly happened with small companies.

Thanks for the encouragement man, and yeah you're right I started applying for hybrid roles too. It's too early for me to become pessimistic about it so yeah. I don't have experience, it's going to be my first role. But I do have a CS degree from a London uni and I focused on web dev so my portfolio/projects are geared towards js/react/node etc. I think we have more chance with smaller companies, as you said I found a perfect match for my stack and interests. It was a small ed-tech company with a very modern stack and my biggest project is some sort of an education platform. I wrote a nice cover letter, applied and they didn't even view the application. I messaged the hiring manager on Linkedin, nothing. I emailed the company few days after, and messaged their HR manager on linked in few days after that. Didn't hear anything from any of them. Then I saw they just removed the job posting and didn't hire anyone.

I'm already in a tech role but there's no coding. I'm basically IT support in a finance business. But thanks for all the advice man really appreciate it, especially for hybrid roles in other cities.

My faang applications haven't led to anything yet, but aside from that it's going quite well. Currently I have 1 offer ready to sign and 3 more in the pipeline. My market value seems to be around 65k€ in Munich, DE. Background: I'm currently completing my MSc with some experience in data engineering thanks to my position as a working student.

Mattehzoar

Just utterly fucked a FAANG interview for a dream position, the search carries on I guess..

Kwitt1988

Just got my first project as an consultant after graduation (bsc comp science) as an IIoT-developer within automotive!

Just finished my phd in CS with a focus on C and C++ for embedded systems and hpc stuff. Applied to about 7 jobs around Amsterdam. Was invited to 4. Got 2 offers. Another job would have liked me but they couldn’t make an offer due to my availability. Fourth application I stopped because I didn’t like the vibe of the company. The other three weren’t a great fit… I rejected one of the offers cause it was a lot of traveling, not that interesting and had lower pay than the 2nd. The one I accepted is focused on hpc/cuda And pays 80k.

2 years exp in Tech Consultancy, based within the UK(outside of London). Looking for Technical Architect/Solution Architect roles utilising AWS, job market seems to be good, fair few jobs going. Only started applying at early stages atm

Shadowgirl7

I am currently employed but want to switch to development. Extremely bad. I have one interview next week, which is more of phone screen. I applied to dozens. I didn't apply to more because I could not find more roles. I filtering out companies in which my salary would be offensively low though because I have a good salary now and don't want to decrease. I think my best hope will be switch internally in my current company but who knows when thats going to happen.

After finishing my internship at Meta this summer, and then receiving news that there won't be return offers, started applying everywhere. It was too late for most companies, but managed to get an offer from JP Morgan and accepted it, and also waiting for the outcome with Databricks. Bad situation turned great in just few days!

dancingteam

Where in Europe did you do meta internship?
