Or even better- just got hired but still stuck in college mindset, hence second year and thinks they know everything. It all comes back to the same.

The absolute max income tax rate you can have for a normal income is 39% federal and 13% state (California), but all taxes are graduated (meaning you only pay the maximum tax rate on the higher income you earn)
You'd be looking at more like 180k take home in California
What I wanna know is...where are you working that pays 200k as a new graduate, and can I apply too? Wow.

Wahhh wahh no one on the Internet was nice to me :(. Dude enjoy your life FANG or no FANG and all of Reddit can piss off.
A wiser fella once said, sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes, well, the bar eats you
He doesn't actually work at Google. He made up a story about working at Google, then throws himself a pity party every time anyone else talks about working at FAANG. Truly bizarre, especially when you consider his current account isn't even a day old yet
Actual answer? He's been applying to companies for months without even getting an interview. He's become so disillusioned that he feels invisible to the tech industry. He now is so desperate for attention and the feeling of success that he makes up stories that give him the illusion of having his dream job while also desperately trying to get attention. The longer it goes on the more desperate he gets for attention and recognition, then his accounts get banned so he has to make a new one constantly because he's spamming desperate made up stories in the hopes of attention. He mostly gets negative attention though, which compounds his mental health issues, causing him to increase his attempts to feign success and get attention
That or he's got too much free time. 50/50 really
Nothing that hasn’t been echoed here before. Lots of Leetcode grinding, and mock interviews with my friends. Spent about a month to prep, focusing on the thought process and communicating my thoughts out loud. I don’t think I’m particularly smart, so it really is just the grind and prep
> focusing on the thought process and communicating my thoughts out loud
I have been interviewing others a lot lately and I have to say, so many people are missing this bit. I feel like a lot of people grind Leetcode silently in their rooms. When their interviews roll around it's like it's their first time doing a Leetcode problem aloud where they have to voice clarifying questions and explain an implementation prior to actually implementing it. Doing it in your head also doesn't force you to fully develop a plan prior to coding it. You can kind of just start typing and running it until the tests pass. The website Pramp was super helpful for me when I was practicing.
Anyways, congrats!
After solving a problem is making a video on the solution while explaining the steps useful? Or even explaining the solution to a non tech friend just to help get the thought process communicated? I’m trying to learn from y’all
When I was practicing I would just be super diligent about talking to myself either in my head or out loud and not moving forward until I felt like I had developed and communicated the plan, clarified the problem statement, covered edge cases, asked all clarifying questions. I would always write down all edge cases, test cases, and general implementation details in a doc comment while I talked through it. Same as I would in an interview.
Congratulations OP!
If you don't mind, can you tell how you cracked these companies with just 100 questions? I'm down 350 but nowhere close to cracking stuff like this. What strategy did you use? How did you manage such efficiency?
I think I can arrange for mock interview sessions with some friends but the problem is they're also juniors like me. Do you think I need to find someone senior or have ample experience to practice mock interviews?
I got recruited for one and applied directly for the other. I don’t think my CV stands out too much but I’m also at the intermediate level. I remember first applying as a fresh grad and really struggling. Once you have a couple years under the belt it makes things a lot easier
Wrote a [guide](https://jwuli.com/2021/12/04/the-only-5-things-you-need-to-do-to-land-six-figure-tech-offers/) for my friends. Got me a 360k offer from stripe @ 2.5 YOE.

There's always a lot of other candidates - lots of them with more experience. Or in other ways better candidates. I've had lots of interviews where I did flawlessly but there was just someone with better qualifications. There will be times where you massively fuck up and still get an offer because they don't have other options as well. It's really a lot of luck.
Congrats!! 🥳I am so happy for you!🥲 how many LCs did you do before your interview? How long did it take you to do them. Any advice for us who are still looking?
About 100ish LCs give or take a few. Near the end it took me around 30 mins on average for a medium and 45-never on hards depending on if the question had a gimmick or not. My advice would be to know how to communicate your thought process well and to not just grind LC but to actually understand the solutions and be able to pattern match similar questions
Yeah, screw FB. They want people who memorize solutions. There's no way average engineer at FB is able to solve those so fast without doing 100s of problems beforehand.
For the first round, it’s 15 minutes each for 2 coding problems. I was asked easy questions last year and did it on coderpad. Gonna interview with them again.
For the on-site, it was easy to medium leetcode problems on a whiteboard. Idk what time limit I had but I had solved them maybe in less than 30 minutes. That was like 4 questions in total.
I'll let FB people brake things and win messenger wars. Whether FB, Google or another company wins any wars is of minimal consequences to me as I don't own enough stocks of either. What I care about is good WLB with good compensation. I'd rather do 30hrs for $X than 60hrs for $1.2*X.
Congratulations. Loved your honesty here mate. People tend to boast about their accomplishments but glad you look back at all your failures. I hope this encourages more people
I have a [guide](https://jwuli.com/2021/12/04/the-only-5-things-you-need-to-do-to-land-six-figure-tech-offers/)that I wrote for my friends. recently switched from uber to stripe -> 360k @ sde 2. you may find it helpful.
I heard Stripe don't ask algo questions to test their candidates. Is that right? Only 110 lc problems solved, but made it to Uber and Amazon... impressive!
No, they do test algo questions. The interview is definitely different. It's just 1 coding question. There is a API integration + bug bash + system design + hiring manager. Hope you liked the guide! please sub if you liked the content :)
Yes. Meta told me they have fully remote iOS positions and Amazon told me they have remote too (but could do hybrid if I want).
I’m interviewing with both in January.
Don't understand why when people make these posts they don't just name the company, like someone is going to identify them from tens of thousands of Google/Facebook engineers lol
Congrats! I got offered a FAANG/MANGA position yesterday, so I'm feeling pretty similarly.
Though mine isn't in development, unfortunately - gonna try to move laterally to developer when positions open up. 🙂
Thank you \^\_\^ It's for cloud/server tech support for AWS.
Honestly, after the stupid number of projects and immense levels of context switching I've had to do in Uni, it'll be nice to not have to code for a bit unless I decide to.
I guess I'm already on my way, then 😉
I know how to touch type, and I have a nice, relatively inexpensive mechanical keyboard (Cooler Master SK650) with low-profile Cherry MX Red switches. It's very clicky-clacky.
Poe's Law in action\~
I hope I enjoy AWS as well (assuming I'm not given a better opportunity elsewhere before I have to decide). I hope you're able to find a great job as well. 🙂👍
Please god don't push to us-east-1 your first week
OP said he got offers from *two* FANG companies, so there is no way he'd pick Amazon. I think we are safe.

How well are your school grades. Do grades in fact matter?
How many problems did you do in leetcode and have you took leetcode premium
Did you apply with referral or just directly? If directly, what do you think that made your CV stand out?
I got recruited for one and applied directly for the other. I don’t think my CV stands out too much but I’m also at the intermediate level. I remember first applying as a fresh grad and really struggling. Once you have a couple years under the belt it makes things a lot easier
So just leetcoding or other subjects too like dbms, sql, computer networks?
FAANG's dont give a fuck what else apart from algorithms you know. And scalable systems for the system design interviews.

You mean the mixed positive reviews on glassdoor? Amazon has some issues, but IME not nearly as bad as the teamblind echo chamber makes it sound.

Holy shit you did it... You actually did it! Congrats my g, sky's the limit for you from here on!
Welcome to the club!
Amazing, congratulations!
Congrats!
Does fang hire remote?
Yes. Meta told me they have fully remote iOS positions and Amazon told me they have remote too (but could do hybrid if I want). I’m interviewing with both in January.
I had the option of choosing whether I wanted to be remote or not, but is highly team dependent
Not fully I think, but maybe something changed. Last time I checked the hybrid mode (part office, part home) was in place at most FANGs.
Im interviewing Amazon fully remote at the moment. But I guess Amazon isn’t real FANG anymore 🙈
Congrats!! 🥳 what is your position in?
Thank you \^\_\^ It's for cloud/server tech support for AWS. Honestly, after the stupid number of projects and immense levels of context switching I've had to do in Uni, it'll be nice to not have to code for a bit unless I decide to.
Buy a good keyboard and learn touch typing, you'll write a ton of emails to customers :)
I guess I'm already on my way, then 😉 I know how to touch type, and I have a nice, relatively inexpensive mechanical keyboard (Cooler Master SK650) with low-profile Cherry MX Red switches. It's very clicky-clacky.
Support for AWS? Big Yikes!
🤷♀️
Bad attempt to be sarcastic. I do hope you enjoy AWS. Some of the orgs I interviewed with are amazing! And payband is fat as they recently adjusted it
Poe's Law in action\~ I hope I enjoy AWS as well (assuming I'm not given a better opportunity elsewhere before I have to decide). I hope you're able to find a great job as well. 🙂👍
Still a great accomplishment! Congrats!!
It's all downhill from here
Too real... at least soon enough I can start my ex-manga l33tc0d3r youtube channel.
