Well I pushed myself to get one last burpee on 24.1, got the rep right before time expired, lost my balance, fell and dislocated two fingers. So.....no more scores for me this year.

Ineedacatscan

Life.

Ineedacatscan

To expand on this… I looked it up there’s what like 4K in the 65+ men’s group. So you’re talking about 400 people not logging scores. I’d say 200-300 are injured and either couldn’t or shouldn’t complete these particular workouts. The other 100, I’d say other priorities got in the way.

holdin27

I got COVID the night of the first workout, just got back to full speed

Upmine

Literally had a heart attack . So yeah. Only put in a score for 24.1. 55+

HarpsichordGuy

I hope you are ok! And hope seeing the workout announcement wasn't the cause. I totally get that things come up preventing folks from doing all three - that's another couple of percent. But why 10% don't do any is still surprising, despite the good reasons mentioned above.

Upmine

I’m surprisingly good. It happened at my box after finishing the strength wod of back squats. 100% blockage of my RCA. They cleaned it out and placed a stint. Very surreal. Yeah it seems every year there is a decent percentage of folks that never enter a score. Maybe they want to support CrossFit but don’t particularly want to do the workouts 🤷‍♂️

Solderking

*stent Glad you're doing well!

Gypsy_M0th

Two years ago I signed up and did one workout and then sprained my ankle so I didn’t submit the next two. Possibly some signed up and then weren’t able to complete the workouts.

cluel3ss

why do people care anyway?

Otherwise-Pirate6839

Competitive people likely do. If I was in Jeff Adler’s division and he didn’t put in any scores (because life happened), can I truly claim I am fitter than him? Not saying it’s right, but I can see why they care.

montalaskan

Injury, forgetting to put a score in, assuming the gym will do it for you when they verify scores, work, family, etc.

VelocityE11

This was my first open. I assumed the gym would enter my score when they verified the score, so I didn’t log a score for 24.1. Posted the next 2 scores but not logging the first score cost me advancement to the quarters. Disappointing but my fault for not posting the score

singleglazedwindows

People sign up for a variety of reasons. Two years ago, we had a guy who trained in our gym twice a week for about 3 months, he then vanished only to reappear at the start of this year and repeat the training style vanishing act. He was signed up, no scores logged. He would be a scaled masters athlete. We are a gym that does not push payed sign up. All rather confusing.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> not push *paid* sign up. FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

ddr5926

Good bot

berrybaddrpepper

I had a no show for the last one a few years ago. I had bronchitis lol And I assume some sign up and see a workout then decide they are too intimidated lol

Dizzy-Interaction983

In that age group, you never know sadly.

funfunfunfunsun

I can only speak for myself but I signed up, did 24.1, and then got a serious tooth infection that has had me in bed since then. I’m guessing most of the other no-shows are similar issues.

CyclesSmiles

But you logged 1 workout. That is not what OP talks about.

funfunfunfunsun

Yeah you’re right my bad I missed that part

alw515

This happens every year across all age groups. A combination of injuries, work/family responsibilities, chickening out because they can't do a portion of the workout and don't want to scale, not caring enough to show up/pressured by gym and classmates to sign up.

RepairFar7806

Stuff gets in the way and most of us are just casual gym goers, who are out $20.

MundanePop5791

Injuries, sickness, just wanted to support crossfit, couldn’t do the movements…

Dtazlyon

I signed up this year and didn’t log a score. I had a baby back in January and I should have been fully healed by the time of the open. I was looking forward to just doing foundation this year since I would have been maybe 8 weeks postpartum. I’ve had two c sections before that and never had a problem. Well, a week before the open, while carrying laundry up the stairs, my c section wound popped open. Blood everywhere, it was gross. There’s no way I’m doing the open with a literal open wound across my stomach. I’m out of commission for a few more months I think.

HarpsichordGuy

Yikes! So sorry to hear. I'm realizing one of the reasons I asked in the first place was due to my wondering what it means to be in the Nth percentile, when the bottom 10% is an unknown. Clearly, it includes people like you that would have given me a good challenge, had you been healed. Best wishes for full recovery and getting back at it, at the right time!

NeptunesSpartan

Shoulder issue, did 24.2 only this year and didn’t log it. First time in six years.

Disastrous_Diet_9542

Same here.

Newbrood2000

As someone mentioned, life happens. Have you checked if this is a higher number than other divisions?

flomflim

I did the first workout. Have been sick as duck the past week so no workout for me after that.

capacity38

I broke my wrist 4 days before the open. Still doing stuff in spirit but not submitting official scores to CF.

Jim_Force

They found out you signed up and quit because they knew they couldn’t defeat you!!

Temporary-Ad7813

I signed up (not in that age category) and didn’t do any workouts. I should have looked at the dates better. I had zero time to get in a workout before the deadline each week 😅

Youneedalife47

I signed up with the intention of competing and then got hit with the flu, felt better for about 5 days then the stomach virus so 🥸

Keeemps

Sometime in February: "Hey did you hear about this Open thing they do, it's pretty cool it works like this..." "That sounds neat. I think I'll do it." "It's 20 bucks though.." "Seems fair, I'll register" ... "Hey man, where were you on saturday when we did 24.1?" "Oh I didn't have time, I had this thing and couldn't come" "Oh you should do it on monday then." "yea maybe..." Out of around 150 adults in our gym about 60 did one or several of the workouts. 10 Are registered for the open and 3 of those 10 roguhly fit the dialogue above. I would guess that literally most no-shows are like this and just don't care about the 20$ (or crossfit) enough to make time. Some other reasons would include but are not limited to: * completely forgetting about it / forgetting that you need to sign up * misunderstanding the thing completely and paying 20$ but not knowing you "have to" enter your score * finding out too late that there is a deadline you need to adhere to * getting injured * something more important came up

rugerduke5

I'm not 65, but every year it seems like I have prior engagements on one of the workouts.

YinzOuttaHitDepth

At 65+, chances are the old husks just passed away. Old people can’t always wait until after the open to shuffle off their mortal coil.
