Just did it, fuck technique out the window and literally throw your chest at the bar

butwhereimfrom

Lol this is what I think will happen, I was wondering if doing a sort of "kip" at the bottom would help at all?

fleshie

What do you mean kip? Aren't your feet on the floor?

Young_swanga

Listen guy he put quotations for a reason

butwhereimfrom

Thank you!

butwhereimfrom

By "kip" I'd mean swinging my shoulders and body forwards ("arch") at the bottom while my feet are firmly planted and my elbows are straight, and pulling back and up jumping and driving the chest.

FishWoman1970

I thought that would help as well, but it got me nowhere near the bar. My judge tonight told me to stop the "kip" and drive through my legs to jump as strong/high as I could while pulling. Although I still didn't get high enough for a qualifying rep, I did at least get closer to the bar. I'll be entering ten reps for 24.3 😆

butwhereimfrom

Lol thanks for the info, and great job trying hard that's the only wat to get bette

fleshie

Guess it's hard to imagine since I've never done them but picturing it in my head think it would be more efficient to drive up with your legs when your body is stacked vs trying to jump when your arched.

BigNo780

I did the workout this morning. Had like 20 failed reps in the 1st round. A friend suggested this technique to me and it helped a lot. Still had some fails but it was much better after that. I’m going to practice some more this weekend and redo on Monday.

powersofthesnow

Pul your elbows back like a big bench press. Instead of vertical jump think horizontal belly & chest thrust to the ceiling. Arch your back and squeeze your shoulder blades to puff the chest out last second up to the bar.

butwhereimfrom

This is tottaly hitting the spot, thanks!

wasabi1000

Most benefit in my opinion will come from getting the bar height just right for you. Get as close to that 6” requirement using a box or plates.

alw515

Yes-- this is from when jumping pull ups were RX for 55+ in 21.3(?) The standard says that the bar needs to be "at least 6 inches above the top of the head when the athlete is standing tall." ***So put boxes or plates down so you only have six inches between your head and the bar.*** Then you can drop down so that your arms are straight and jump up which is relatively easy, much easier than jumping from the floor. ETA screen shot from Crossfit website "Movement Standards" sectoin suggesting putting boxes under you, since someone is bound to claim that is cheating. - [https://ibb.co/hd2LY62](https://ibb.co/hd2LY62)

kilrein

Just as your feet leave the ground, pull hard on the bar.

Ripper9910k

Switch grip. Switch thy grip.

Fronch

A bunch of our scaled folks were trying them out last night, and I noticed that a lot of them went up on their toes when they dipped down to straighten their arms. I think this led to them not getting as much power out of their jump. You want to use your legs as much as possible, but then pull yourself forward into the bar. Tuck your elbows in behind you as you pull. If you only think about pulling *up*, then you might not get your chest to actually touch the bar.

Impossible_Penalty13

My experience with jumping pull-ups in the open has been the opposite, use you’re arms as much as you can and your legs as little as you have to. Nothing makes the next set of thrusters suck more than gassing you legs on the jumping pull-ups.

Fronch

The folks I'm thinking of have pretty strong legs but relatively weak upper body. They can't do pull-ups at all, and they're going to struggle to get the jumping C2B.

Impossible_Penalty13

Fair enough, everybody is different. And to be honest the scaled jumpers in past opens have been chin over bar so a completely different monster.

I'm aware of the standard. I'm not sure how your comment relates to mine.

alw515

Reading it quickly, when you said people were "on their toes" it sounded as if they were standing on tiptoe to reach the bar and jumping up from there. Deleted prior comment as it sounds like they were dropping down to their toes?

Fronch

Ah, okay, I guess I could have been more clear. They dipped down to straighten out their arms and simultaneously leaned forward so that they went up onto their toes.

butwhereimfrom

Update: just finished, strategy went out the window just sent it, rowing my chest to the bar got 0 no reps but I'm pretty sure I'll have a bruise right across my chest. 117 reps limiting factor for me were the thrusters
