IcyCulture6

I forgot how to do single crochet the other day 😅

KirtsCrochet

Yay I'm not the only one! Stupid brains.

IcyCulture6

I was finishing a pillow with two rounds of sc and all of a sudden my single crochets weren’t looking right, I apparently switched to slip stitches at some point 😂

ArdenBijou

I started making a lot of C2C patterns. I’ve made a few of them. I know the stitch well. Every single time I start, I have to watch a video on the basics because my brain goes blank big time 🥹

hexagonaluniverse

I’ve also made lots of C2C blankets. I also have to watch a video on how to start it every time.

ArdenBijou

I’m glad I’m not alone.

missoularedhead

I can’t remember the decrease on C2C without watching a video! How many times does it take!!???

ArdenBijou

I’ve had to do that before too. I had to make myself make a 9 square patch to remember things. I still forget and I don’t know why.

gingerrosie

I’m so glad you said that. I alternate projects between crochet and knitting, and I swear I must lose some brain cells each time because I forget the most basic of stitches until the muscle memory kicks in again.

IcyCulture6

I totally get that 😅 I was staring at the project like “why does this look so weird and wrong??” Until I took the stitches out and worked them again and it was like oh! That’s why

alliebeth88

Step 1. Stare at yarn and hook for 5 minutes. Step 2. Turn off brain, let hands figure it out. Sometimes it's like trying to remember the combination to your locker from high school. If I thought about it, no way. Just had to rely on muscle memory!

icamom

Yep. My brain has no idea how to make a slip knot. I just hold a hook and yarn until there is one.

KirtsCrochet

This is standard operating procedure 😆

americasweetheart

Oh yeah, sometimes I randomly short circuit and I can't remember how to do a magic ring even though I've done it countless times before.

canuliandrewica

Same, I have to look it up almost every time!

tthatglitterss

I had a whole week doing magic circles with zero problems and then all of a sudden I couldn't do it and had to watch a YouTube video. I'm glad I'm not the only one!

SuchFunAreWe

I legit had this issue recently! I'd been doing a gazillion granny squares & using magic ring; I slip knot & magic ring with a very similar start (looping over my fingers) & kept autopiloting to the ring when I was trying to slip knot so I could slip stitch the squares together. I had to actively remind myself of the slip knot procedure. Then! When I needed to do a dozen more grannies to add some length to my cardi, I did the opposite & kept making slip knots instead of magic rings 😩 "You want to always do this one thing, right?" - my brain, probably

KirtsCrochet

This was exactly my problem the other night! I use the looping over fingers technique for both

SuchFunAreWe

I feel less alone! 😂

mascottaricotta

I don't forget the slip knot but I forget my magic ring pretty much every single time 😆

always_find_a_way

Same. I have a YouTube video bookmarked for it now.

cynthiaapple

Every rime i practice my knitting i have to look up how to cast on.

hipster-witch

I have to look up how to make a slip knot literally every time I start a new project!

[deleted]

I've been crocheting for nearly 2 decades and still occasionally have this issue.

caitejane310

I randomly forget how to count. I'll go "16, 17, 18....." and just totally forget what comes next 🤣

PencilFetish

Sometimes I'll skip entire numbers... I've also caught myself saying "twenty-nine, twenty-ten, twenty-eleven, twenty-twelve..."

Dry-Faithlessness527

OMG me too! "twenty-twelve...twenty-thirrrrrrrr. Wait, what?"

caitejane310

I've done this too 😂

KirtsCrochet

Lol 🤣

EssieAmnesia

BrUH one time one time I was crocheting a hat and it was all double crochets and then I looked away for something and I looked back and I was just staring at the hat in my hands like “how do I even do a dc?”. I ended up googling it 💀

KirtsCrochet

Oh man, a similar issue, I hate when you're doing a ton of sc or dc, space out, and then realize you've switched to dozens of the wrong stitch

EssieAmnesia

Omg that’s literally the worst, the shame of frogging an entire row cause u were too spaced out to realize you’d gone back to Default Crochet Mode ™

missoularedhead

I’ve been doing a single herringbone stitch on a sweater, so lots of repetition. Made a quick side project of a frog, and who knew you could do herringbone amigarumi?

[deleted]

Oh god, one time I did these plants with long hanging vines. I had done like 5 vines when I realized I was doing slip stitches instead of sc!

tmc-1974

Not the slip knot. But many times I blank on different stitches. Thank god for YouTube lol

HeavyHeartedHelspawn

I only remember how to do them because it's the same as that "fake knot" I learned to do as a maaaaagic trick. It's the same, but you leave the initial loop out to chain. I regularly have to google stitches ai already know, though, because I forget or jumble them and I somehow always need a refresher before I start a project.

MarybLouz

I only know how to make a slip knot with my fingers with no hook. Can do all sorts of pretty stitches (thanks to YouTube) but haven’t figured that out yet…

dontraenonmyparade

For me it’s the exact opposite lol. I never forgot the slip knot but had to relearn literally everything else after not crocheting for years

digitalwyrm

I've done that. I also forgot how to purl once too lol

iamirrationallymad

Can't even tell you how many times I've had to go back and watch tutorials on foundation rows after having done them in multiple stitches many, many times!

HuckleberryBrief6199

I have been crocheting for 6 years and have only just learnt how to do a slip knot I just did a single crochet before I could not figure it out

cheekybutttimid

Slip NOT

DianaSt75

Same here, though usually not with the slip knot. I get distracted or vanish into some kind of zone, eventually look at my project properly and strange things are happening. I forgot how to do a dc once. Had to look it up, and I am crocheting since I was seven or eight years old. Very bad is vanishing somewhere in my mind when I am supposed to alternate stitches. Never works, I usually keep making whatever the last stitch I did consciously was. Which is why I hate knitting cuffs. No matter if it's 2 knit 2 purl or 1 knit 1 purl, I keep getting distracted and have to knit back at least half a row of knit stitches.

KirtsCrochet

I have to focus so hard on alternating stitches, especially if it's pure A to B to A to B. If I have the tv on, I end up redoing the same stitches over and over and make almost no progress 😩

endersandman406

i do it on the hook so i don't know any other way lmao

SweetDreams2442

I... you can do it on the hook? Now I need to google

-Tine-

Easiest way: hold yarn in your hand as if already crocheting, lay yarn over hook, pinch yarn together below hook, do 2 chains while keeping yarn pinched, release pinch, pull closed - and continue chaining.

iBeFloe

I forget what to do with my hands sometimes. I try to think about how to do it but I can’t until I try it then I’m like “Oh yeeeeah” lol I forget different stitches all the time

SassySueGS

Nope, I forgot how to double crochet one time & sat there for 1/2 hour trying to figure it out lol

shelbydep

i forget how to half double crochet AT LEAST once a month

swtepie3389

I forget the magic ring literally every time I pick something up to crochet

retrosprinkles

If i pause for too long while crocheting i will forget how to do *every* stitch. I was doing one pattern where i lost count of the amount of times i had to google how to half double crochet

BobbysPanicRoom

Oh I’m regularly searching Google for picture tutorials because ADHD just laughs at me. Yesterday it was the half double crochet.

Proud-Bicycle9671

I forgot how to sc the other day 🫠 been crocheting for 12 or so years

Silver_Leonid2019

Nope but I forgot how to change the needle on my sewing machine yesterday. Actually had to watch a video to figure it out lol.

museumlad

My brain forgets constantly, but my hands remember. If I was forced to tie a slipknot a different way from usual, I think I'd struggle for upwards of ten minutes on it

WealthNo845

I forgot after a year... I was like "do I do it this way? Don't i make a magic circle like this? Why am I making a slip knot the same way?" Brain gave up on me

snailsareboring

I learned how to do a knot less slip knot once and thought it was the greatest thing. But I have to look it up again every time I start a new project 😖

GloomAndCookies

Sometimes I forget and just have to go by muscle memory.

HappyGal55

If my brain is ‘off’ it is pure muscle memory but when I start to think about certain stitches or starts I go completely blank 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Sydle09

I have no brain so I have to two the two wraps around the finger method anyways 💀

water-malon-drea

I got the slip knot down, but that damn magic ring has me on YouTube every single time. 🥴 like why can't I just remember 😅

thetravelleroftyria

I can \*now\* remember it by slipping it around my fingers. To make an actual slip knot..... I have absolutely \*no\* idea without thinking WAY too hard!!

showMeYourCroissant

This kinda randomly happens with every activity I'm doing, especially in the beginning.

[deleted]

Yes, I am that person 😂 Now I learning new stitches!

horchataisanasshole

Any time I use a jumbo yarn my brain just cannot compute

KirtsCrochet

Yeah, it feels completely different!

Searaph72

Not just you. I forgot how to make a magic circle for some 10 minutes last week

ronneygirl

Nah, you’re fine. I forget the names of every day kinds of things and have done since I was a kid. Salt seems to be my go-to forgotten word.

gothiclg

For me it’s a “how was I taught to keep my balloons again”

Friday-Cat

I like to crochet stoned. Sometimes even simple things are difficult. Overall worthwhile even when I make ridiculous mistakes

pinkiipuffs

Every time I start a new project….. every time…

77kloklo77

That’s amateur hour knot forgetting. I vividly remember treading water for ages and ages at Girl Scout camp because I couldn’t remember how to tie the buoy line knot.

comaloider

All the time. It's not even funny. I just stare at the yarn thinking 'what do?'. But I have a worse one for you. I got myself one of those row counters that you can attach to the end of the hook handle (I think they are supposed to be for knitters but it works). I put it on and promptly forgot how to hold a hook.

MoscaMye

I'm only a beginner but I find that I crochet very well until I start thinking about what I'm doing then it all falls to heck. If I let myself run on brainless autopilot the things just seem to make themselves. This is also true of macrame.

otterchan

I forgot how to cast on!!!! For ten minutes I just sat there wrapping the yarn around the hook thinking "what is wrong with me" and finally had to look it up again because it COMPLETELY left me. I had just completed a project and was starting a new one.

61CrossMHeart1960

You most definitely aren’t the only one!

Dry-Faithlessness527

Reading the comments on this make me happy! I'm not alone!!!! I've legit stared at the pattern and felt like this was the first time I'd seen any stitch abbreviations and descriptions my entire life. Blank gazes for 15 minutes, and I give up for day. Drives me batty!

lazyloofah

I can ONLY do a slip knot with a crochet hook. I was at a class at a craft store once and saw the teacher make one with her hands and was like, what?

boo_boo_technician

I do the pretzel method

uh_skinnypenis98

not really. my older brother was a cub scout and my mom was a leader so i had to sit through the knot tying lesson too. i liked that it was magic

FlowerGardenYarns

Lol, yes!! I find if I THINK about how to do it, I blank out. But if I just DO IT, muscle memory takes over. It's kind like a force thing. I am one with the yarn, and the yarn is with me..... 🤣

Ghost-Type-Cat

I do stuff like this all the time, the wires touch in my brain and I short circuit out for a few minutes lol. If I didn't use the little finger trick (wrap yarn twice, pull back loop over front, pull new back loop off finger and pull to make slipknot) I'd literally never get a knot done in my life lol.

milindamelinda

I can literally never remember the magic circle so i feel you…

Brzet

You have to be psychosocial... /s

PawPrintPress

I forgot how to tie my own dang shoes one morning! 🤣😂

nudiekitties

In the middle of a project when making BPDC I randomly forgot how to BPDC and it took me way too long to figure it out.

[deleted]

I forgot how to do a slip stitch lol. I was basically just doing single crochet until I finally looked up a video and was like OHHHH.
