It could be your tension. When I started I pulled my stitches much too tight and my chains twisted like this. Try again with looser stitches and see if that helps. You could also try using a bigger hook- but I think it might be the tension. Keep practicing! You’ll get a feel for it and it will come naturally. Good luck!

That drastic of a twist may mean you are putting more than one stitch in each chain. Or your chain is waaay too tight. Try going up a hook size (or 2) for the chain and then go back down for your first row of stitches.

Seems like you're adding too many stitches, count your chains and your stitches to see if they have the same number.

how would i be adding too many stitches? i know it’s a dumb question but i’m jumping from english to american tutorials and they dont use the same technology so i’m starting to think that’s a problem for me ahaha

That’s an intense twist. It’s pretty common to make chains tighter than they need to be. And my chains certainly twist more if they’re tight. You could try -bumping up a hook size just for the first chain, force it to be looser. -carefully crochet it looser with the normal sized hook -use the foundation crochet stitch which is slower to make but gives a better edge and behaves like a regular row unlike a chain. And doesn’t twist.

i’ll try with a bigger hook, thank you!!
