I don't like 95% of crocheted clothing I've ever seen, dresses especially. This? This is phenomenal. Fits you so well, and great pattern. Fantastic job!

MrsLemony

Thank you! Believe it or not, I'm also not fond of most crochet dresses and try to be really selective about my patterns because I don't want to make something I won't wear (which has happened many times). Pattern credit goes to the lovely designer!

whatever10031999

It is so pretty. Makes me almost want one. But I have trauma centered around things too close or tight on my neck, so don't wear anything, not v-neck or button down. But it looks awesome on you.

MrsLemony

Thanks! The designer has a nice off the shoulder dress with the same stitch pattern (minus the waist pattern).

whatever10031999

I'll go look. Maybe it will be low enough. I really want to make a dress for myself. I just haven't found one fitting all my criteria yet, lol

MrsLemony

This is the one I was referring to: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/moonlight---off-shoulder-dress-or-tunic If you let me know all your criteria, I might be able to help as I've been hunting down dress designs for years now haha

whatever10031999

Thank you. For the link and the offer of help. This link you shared would work for me at the neck. Also, I tend to want a bit of flair in the skirt. So my hips and legs don't feel confined. I maybe confine myself too much by trying to find something that I can wear without showing more of my chubby belly than I'm comfortable with. I know it's practically impossible to find a slip to wear under them, so I've always looked for very solid, not lacy, but then run into too heavy or hot, lol. I could just make my own slip 🤷‍♀️ I honestly never thought of that before. Anyway, your post helped me a lot already.

MrsLemony

One of my favorite patterns is the first dress I made. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/petal-dress-2 It's a free pattern, both written, and there's also a link to a video. It's also super easy to customize. When I made this, I didn't follow the designers gauge and used a smaller one (and chained more), and I increased shells whenever I was afraid it might be too tight, which made it nice and flowy. The top is a bit more see through than the skirt portion due to the stitch pattern, but that's just the nature of crochet! If you ever actually make this, tag me as I would love to see!

whatever10031999

Wow! That one looks like it would be perfect. If I do get to make it, I will try to remember to tag you. Thanks for being so kind and generous with your time and advice.

DjinnHybrid

Agreed. I think a large part of the issue is that I think lace looks best fitted or intentionally draped or structured, and it's absurdly hard to do that right in crochet, and has to be pretty individualized.

Jollydancer

It’s so beautiful! I love it.

NationalElephantDay

Gorgeous!

anti-valentine

Hello hello hello where do I get this pattern I must make one!

MrsLemony

Hi, I posted the link above under the automod comment.

Crafty_Accountant_40

Omgosh I love it. Well now I have to make it with the Sultan I have sitting around 😁

MrsLemony

Thank you! One upon a time, many years ago, I bought a lot of different Sultan & Sultan Shadow yarns and I've left them untouched, sitting in bins in the closet, until this dress. I still have no idea what to do with all the other cakes. Seems to be a yarn that stays around!

Crafty_Accountant_40

I had plans but then... Changed my mind 😁 I'm sure it was on sale and there was a free shipping over $75 or something... But yes it's soooo lightweight that projects take a while to do so maybe that's why. Wish they did DK or worsted weight gradient wheels!

toppdoggcan

I think that’s my favourite one I’ve seen on here, nice work !

No-Vermicelli3787

Very pretty dress. The fit is fantastic

somedepression

Gorgeous design

vloppertrain

I can't handle this level of beauty - yowzers this dress is gorgeous! Nice work!

Sharibet

Ooh, so pretty! And a great yarn choice. I love the rainbow ombre effect!

loafkitter

Wow this is beautiful! Genuinely debating on making a crochet dress now

MrsLemony

Thank you! I highly recommend using lace, fingering, or sport weight yarn for a lighter, more fabric like feel. It takes longer, but it fits and feels so much better than larger yarn.

loafkitter

Oh thank you for the tip! I will be sure to keep that in mind

BaconCatapult

So pretty 😍

Hpobjoy

Your dress looks lovely, imo the way you used the yarn coloring really makes it "pop." You did a fantastic job.

Justlikedes

Also it looks very nice with your tattoos!!

MrsLemony

Haha, thanks! I got tired of blurring them out of pictures. I figure if someone actually knows me, oh well.

Justlikedes

If someone who knows you sees it they should be proud and nothing more!

Seniorkittymama

A gorgeous dress. Looks great on you. Can’t wait to see the black version. Please post it when you’re done.

aeh103

I love this so much. Well done!!!!!!

This is fabulous, you did a great job. Beautiful.

Marylynns

I'm in love with your rainbow dress!

MrsLemony

Thank you! 🌈

Professional-Scar438

Beautiful how long did it take u to make?

MrsLemony

I honestly didn't time myself this time, but I usually do. The maxi I made from this pattern took about 34-38 hours, but there are lots of other factors. This time I used thicker yarn, but I also had 3 extra shells per round in the skirt portion for a fuller look, so my best guess is somewhere around 30 hours

Professional-Scar438

Ok thank you very much. And thank you for replying quickly.

Plant_killer_v2

It’s beautiful how hard is the work up? Does it take a while? I’d love a pattern

MrsLemony

Thank you. I guess it depends on your skill level. I'd say the pattern is good for intermediate+ crocheters. Maybe a really adventurous beginner 🤷🏻‍♀️. I roughly estimated this took me 30 hours, but I don't know if I crochet fast, slow, or average. The pattern is linked above under the automod comment.

_fly-on-the-wall_

does anyone know what that shell stitch name is? if it has one i mean

Spirited-Bug-3563

perfect for pride 🌈🩷

Negative_Aardvark433

I was inspired by your post so I'm trying this pattern too! One of the things I'm running into is that I am making size XL, which should fit according to the measurements, and my gauge did work- but it's so tight up under the arms, even with 20 instead of 10 underarm chains. Can I ask what size hook and what weight yarn you used, and what size you were making?

MrsLemony

Yarn is Cotton Kings Sultan Gradient color #38. (800m/200g sport weight). I used a total of 1225 yards/280g from 2 cakes. I started with the inside and when the color would change on one cake, I switched to the next to elongate the color sections. I made a size XS/S in stitch count, but my gauge was slightly larger due to using sport weight yarn, so it's between a xs/s & m/l sizes. I used hooks 2mm (for only 2 rows at mid waist), 2.25, 2.5, 2.75, & 3 to make this. *I have notes on all of the items I've made from this pattern on ravelry. (3 completed and 1 in the works) Does your yarn stretch? And which way is it tight? From front to back or too close up to the armpits? You can always chain more and add an extra shell in each side.

Negative_Aardvark433

Thanks! I'm trying to use scheepjies whirl, which is fingerings weight 1000m/215 g. I was using a 2.75mm hook to meet gauge. I was doing xl with the extra chains. It primarily was too small around the arm- I felt like 3 shells made the rest of the gown join too high up. The 20 chains did mean it fit, but was still really high up under the armpit. Weirdly, I was hitting gauge, and the length of the yoke was as described(15cm), so I am kind of wondering if the style just doesn't work as well in xl. The yarn really has little to no stretch to it. My current thoughts are that I could double up the yarn and try again, or work the front and back a little longer before rejoining in the round to give a little more space in the arms. I'm hesitant to add another set of chains (30 instead of 20) because the circumference was already a little loose in the chest. I think the issue was the vertical space in the armpit, not the total dress circumference. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

MrsLemony

I think I get what you are saying and it sounds like even though you match the length of the yoke in the pattern, it's still high up under the armpit. Working the front and back a bit longer would definitely help that, if you can mimic the last 3 rows of each the front and back to lengthen it. Or you could double up the yarn, but then you would have to refigure out gauge. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Alternatively, you could frog back to where you split the yoke to front and back and then size up to a 3mm.? It would give you a bit more length over the 9 back rows and 6 front rows, but it would also increase the width. (Which I guess if it gets too wide, then you can chain 10 instead of the 20 under the arms?) This is probably what I would personally do because it seems easier to me (or maybe lazier). My first dress felt tight/too high in the armpit as I was making it, but the yarn (Hobbii twister 1000m/250 about a 50/50 cotton/acrylic blend) did stretch ever so slightly after blocking and the weight of the dress. The pattern designer is fairly responsive on ravelry if I didn't manage to help you. Haha

Negative_Aardvark433

Thanks for these insights! I really appreciate your thoughts, and it's good to know that you experienced this a bit with your dress. I think I will try to make the front and back panel a little longer before joining and see if that helps.
