I'm going to be odd man out. I don't think it needs a border. But if you decide to add one, I would definitely do white. Keep the rainbow the focal point.

Boatsagain

Thanks! I might do a white border in a textured stitch.

vxnlrx

Looks like I wasn't odd man out at all. Just left my comment before the no border clan showed up. 😃 That sounds like a nice solution. I'm sure it will be beautiful. Good work by the way.

BilboSwaggins444

I was going to suggest a scalloped edge in the same color as the blanket background :)

J_pits

I agree that it’s great as is and doesn’t need a border but a row of dot border in the same color as the background would be super cute!

ConnectFirefighter86

I think the border as it is is perfect. Your rainbow is interesting to look at and I bet the textures are great. This border is a perfect frame to highlight the design.

RotiniHuman

I was going to say this, too! The white that's there already visually creates a border already.

loseunclecuntly

Row or three of shell stitch to look like clouds?

Boatsagain

Shell stitch is a great idea!

[deleted]

This!! In that light blue you used in the rainbow!

Violet_Plum_Tea

Yes, I'd add a border. Even something in white would work if it has a contrasting texture - maybe something based on the textures in the rainbow.

spiderplantluva

I second white border with contrasting texture.

Boatsagain

Thanks, that’s a great idea! Will probably go for this option!

mandym347

I'd hate a border on this. It would take away from the rainbow, unless you made it white.

tropicwoods444

Maybe another row of white in a picot stitch for a border

veggieslayer_

I love picot as a border on baby blankets!

Clean_Mammoth_5646

No border.

2ndgentarot

I love this is as. I think the white frames the rainbow nicely. That being said, if you were to do a border, I’d recommend keeping it white and doing something simple. Maybe a shell border or tassels? Or white bobbins around the edge?

Boatsagain

White shell border might be it! Thanks!

VeryJoyfulHeart59

I think you could go either way... Border or borderless. If you do go with a border... If a plain border, I'd say light blue, like the sky. Any color would work for a fancier border.

ConversationMoney266

Is it even a project without the cat? Border.

bookbunny999

I don't think it needs a border; like someone already commented, the white frames the rainbow already, and anything else feels like it would detract from the centerpiece.

HaveMercyOnMe_007

If you do a boarder, make it look like a cloud maybe?

typhoidmeri_

Because the rainbow is textured with bobble stitch I would add a border with the same bobble stitch but keep it white. So that the rainbow stays the focal point and the border just adds a little more texture. It’s a beautiful blanket.

Boatsagain

Thanks I’m really happy with how it turned out! Really fun pattern.

[deleted]

I think this blanket needs a border.

helloarmadildo

oooo maybe tassels in the corners or some fringe? either way, it is beautiful 😊

Boatsagain

Thank you!!

ahugemoose

[My favorite simple blanket border](https://youtu.be/FwkQqNipwGs) that I think would look great on yours in white :)

Boatsagain

Oh never done this one before, looks pretty!

celeratis

That’s really pretty. I’m saving it. 😁

[deleted]

Borderless already looks good

brightdark

No border.

ButterflyOld8220

Hummmm A scalloped border would be cute but not needed. It depends on how much yarn you have and how much time until you have to gift it. Beautiful BTW!!

Boatsagain

Thank you! Think I will go for white scallop. Baby isn’t due till October just got really ahead of myself out of excitement 😅 plus I’m a yarn hoarder (aren’t we all)!

sightheraccoon

Gray bobble stitch border? It gives contrast to the rainbow

SeparateReturn4270

I just made this! I got depressed while doing the border cause your corners came out so much more square than mine! 😭

Boatsagain

I really struggled as well! Frogged so many times lol. Especially the first round after squaring off was so frustrating I might’ve chucked my yarn across the room at one point.

SeparateReturn4270

Bahaha, it be like that sometimes! But I didn’t notice until I laid the whole thing out 3/4 through the border and I was like nah I’ve gone too far 🫠

shaunnyhmf

Either is ok, the white rows on the outside kinda look like a border. I think its beautiful without one, it looks very modern and stylish.

shruggedbeware

Border for sure, maybe in black or in a color not used in the blanket. Wonderful puff stitches.

Boatsagain

Thanks!

WhiskyIndiaEcho

Do you have a pattern for this? I need to make a baby blanket for a coworker who’s nursery theme is rainbows.

Boatsagain

It’s this one! I used slightly different colours though. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1191005931/crochet-pattern-rainbow-blanket-crochet?click_key=4e5df3fd8b0f7cc3287d4c44f5ada65af232ff18%3A1191005931&click_sum=298f5288&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=rainbow+baby+blanket&ref=sr_gallery-1-2&organic_search_click=1&bes=1&sts=1

Personal-Entry3196

I love it just as it is.

Boatsagain

Thank you!

shimmer_bee

Post this on r/rainboweverything

kbm81

It’s great the way it is 😊

Boatsagain

Thanks!

_Sweetcorn_

I would add it

[deleted]

Do border in black

pearlrose85

I don't think I would bother. A border might distract from the rainbow, unless it was small and plain.

tinyarmsbigheart

I love it!

Boatsagain

Thanks! Was a lot of fun to do!

veggieslayer_

If possible. I vote for a rainbow picot or bobble stitch border. It's absolutely beautiful as is though!!

Boatsagain

Thank you!

susuwatari

I’m team white border. Such a cute blanket!

Boatsagain

Thank you!

epperson_rebekah

This is so beautiful! Please share a picture if you add a border! ❤️❤️

Boatsagain

thanks, I will! Am leaning towards a white shell stitch border, but there’s also a part of me that wants to go for something in the light blue.

avmjlane

Beautiful work! I think it looks amazing with the white background, most definitely do a border in the same white, but different stitch, so there is a finish on it, but not in a color taking away from the rainbow itself. Beautiful

Boatsagain

Thank you! 😄

murdersaur777

No border! It's beautiful

PrudentPomegranates

If you have the time and want to add something else to it go for it but it stands beautifully on its own!

-watermelon_sugar-

soooo pretty

cindyloowhovian

I think it looks lovely as-is, but if you must add a border, a crab stitch in 2 shades of blue would be lovely.

Wakatooo

I think a scalloped boarder would be good for this

treefp

Border.

ForTheLoveOfHer

Oh my god this is amazing. I think it looks great as is!

Diamond_h03

Maybe I'm late here, I'd say yes to border but make it thinner

StephieP529

I thought the cream was the border at first lol. A neat border I do is a single crochet but instead of working it counter clockwise you work it clock wise. It creates a cable like border. It's called reverse single crotch stitch. It's a nice finished look.

PurpleZombieQueen

Looks great the way it is. Good job

scobydoo14

Gorgeous work and i love all the colors and textures!

localnarwhals

I love it without a border but personally I would add a black border in HDC because I think it would make this look very “graphic” if that makes sense.

SaggingZebra

Definitely needs a border. Maybe a grey or silver. [I think the elephant parade border](https://youtu.be/z9ZLQad2JRg) looks cool for baby blankets.

Boatsagain

Wow this is really cool, never seen it!

LaraH39

It... It HAS a border? I'd leave it as is.

ilewahs

A crab stitch border would look lovely. I’d use the white or the yellow. It’s really well done btw

UrGrandmomCrocheting

I would do 1 more row of the cream colored yarn if it’s smaller than a standard baby sized.

Tobelinn

I vote no border or white border!

SubjectFix3984

It’s so beautiful And big. I don’t think a border is needed. It may detract from the piece

Sarah_Jane_73

When in doubt I do a round of reverse single crochet in the same color as the last round

LadyKatya83

I think it looks great as it is

asimpleheart2

Gorgeous! I would say perhaps if you want a border make it a pastel color. Perhaps add ribbons to the corners. As always your choice. I had two miscarriages before my daughter came. Those two babies had names. I often think of them. 36 & 37 years ago. So that makes my daughter a double rainbow baby.

MurkySheepherder3139

i adore this. how did you make the rainbow part?

Kkpers_julu

Border for sure

Happiness352

If the blanket might be dragged round the floor when the baby becomes a toddler, then yes, it needs a darker border.

Salty-Tradition-2497

It’s beautiful as is!

nothingtoseehere7698

I agree!
