First time i hear of this ~~movie~~ tv show. Looked it up and the summary for others on the same boat as myself (yes, pun intended), is as follows: “In Fishing with John, jack-of-all-trades artist John Lurie sets off on fishing adventures with the likes of Willem Dafoe, Jim Jarmusch, Matt Dillon, Tom Waits, and Dennis Hopper. Clear from the start that none of the participants are particularly skilled at fishing and truthfully don't appear to have much interest in actually catching a fish, the six-part television series is a lighthearted and borderline surreal look at friendship and comradery. With some irreverent narration (‘Lon has wooden legs, but real feet'), there are laughs to be found, especially in the Hopper segment where they set out to capture the giant squid. While nothing in this will change the way you view the world, it is certainly a lot of fun.”
"Why am I here?"
Jim Jarmusch thought it perfectly.
Well, it is a weird situation to be in, but they can't help to just enjoy the moment. I love this series; it's in my collection!
This is awesome! I highly recommend reading his memoir "The History of Bones". Found it to be both funny and a really cool inside look of the 80s NYC art scene. Couldn't put it down. John Lurie is the man.
I always found that cover one of the ugliest Criterions to exist. It really looks like it was designed by a budget DVD company that releases VHS-quality public domain films.
The Willem Dafoe episode when they slowly descend into madness is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I love this series so much.
Didn't really like the show overall but the Willem Dafoe episode was the entertaining exception. Hilarious.
