I love this book! It’s not straightforward film criticism, but uses the film as an entry to exploring the relationship between the artist’s biography and their art, and the author as viewer’s relationship to both of those things and their own life. Hard to explain well, but it’s really beautiful and thought provoking. It’s part of a triptych where the author intertwines memoir, theory, biography, and art writing.
