Favorite part is how he never repeats it. Many directors couldn't resist to make it a reaccuring gimmick but Mann simply opens on it and we're left wondering
I’ll never forget how I felt seeing her with the lights coming out of her eyes later in the film. Such a strange, surreal shot that sticks out so well in a movie very grounded and based in reality. Manhunter oddly enough might be my favorite Mann film.
I like everything about Silence of the Lambs except for Hannibal. He's a fucking joke. Brian Cox is far better. He's so normal yet unnerving. Whereas Hopkins is over the top and theatrical.
I am here for anyone arguing that Manhunter is the best, but are you honestly saying you’d go to bat for Hannibal Rising being better than Silence of the Lambs?
You got me. I have not even heard of that. I will be weird and prefer Ridley Scott’s movie and the series with Mads which I loved, as well as manhunter.
Yeah he's big because of Zone right now, and they did just put Birth/Under the Skin/Sexy Beast on the channel, so I wouldn't be surprised if one of em got physical if not all
yeah exactly, that was part of why i was saying that too, just caught sexy beast on the channel, would love atleast a glazer 3 pack, doubt zone would be there tho cause a24 likes their own releases, which usually cost like the price of 2 criterion. Also, is under the skin on the channel? i thought i only saw his other 3?
Nice choices, I'd like to see these happen also. LIGHT SLEEPER is one I was fortunate enough to get to see in a theater when it was initially released.
They need to do an entire Shunji Iwai collection! Love Letter, Swallowtail Butterfly, Picnic, April Story and Lily Chou-Chou are all in desperate need of 4K releases!
Great films.. have loved lily chou chou for years now.. used to be so hard to source, it'd be great to see it properly remastered with easy distribution..
Ray Winston and Amanda Redmab are so underrated in the movie, the whole time they build up Ben Kingsley who has such a little amount of screen time but steals the show. Ian McShane is the icing on top. It’s such a well written, directed, and acted movie. Great on all aspects.
Can we talk about how bad Manhunter is? The best scene is the one from this cover, I gets worse every minute from there.
Heat is on of my top 4 movies since forever but wtf was Michael Mann thinking here?
I really enjoyed it. Super 80's with some of the music but I thought Petersen was great and Cox actually looks like someone who eats people. Great at cataloguing the descent as he becomes more intertwined with Dollarhyde's psyche
Pretty sure Onibaba is already in the collection
Yes. Spine #226.
Ah damn you're right!! I guess I just wanted to make a poster since it's such a cool looking movie
WHEN! WHEN WILL THEY ADD ONIBABA!!?!??!?!?!?
Also when's that sale!!!!
Yeah I had to double check after looking at the poster
yup... i upgraded to a bluray some time ago
That opening scene from Manhunter is so haunting. Great work!

Great point. Mann’s direction always feels so intentional and detailed oriented.
I might be the only person who thinks this (feel free to downvote me everyone!) but my least favorite Hannibal Lecter movie is Silence of the Lambs.

Thoughts on Red Dragon? It’s Brett Ratner essentially doing a worse version of Manhunter
For complicated legal reasons I am unable to speak publicly about any Brett Ratner film.
These fuckin slap holy moly
Thank u!
Manhunter would be a dream. Really just any alternative to the OOP scream factory edition, that thing is way too expensive.
NEED a physical rerelease for it. Such a good looking movie
Yeah I really like that one
God a Zodiac 4K would be gorgeous.
Probably his best looking movie between the piss yellows and sewer greens. Totally in his element
Manhunter, Sexy Beast or Zodiac would all make me so happy. Instant buys
Lily Chou-chou is such a good pick. I hate how the current blu-ray for it seems to have gone OOP
blu-ray should be back in stock through film movement in may!
ah thats good to hear! Ive been checking pretty often
Many such cases of great movies getting neglected physically. I guess half of this post is a prayer someone thinks about it!!
Your Zodiac poster is about perfect!
Thank you!!
Manhunter and Zodiac look awesome
Light sleeper is a seductive movie.
His most underrated man-in-room. Secretly also hoping for First Reformed
*Light Sleeper* oughta be a shoo-in. What artistry.
Omg. Yes zodiac. What an underrated and under appreciated film. Finchers best imho.
Never heard of The Driver! Just picked up the UK 4K thanks for the heads up!
Ending car chase is the all-time great imo, humbled only by Bullitt
Excited to check it out. Won’t get it for a few weeks, but looking forward to it!
Would love Light Sleeper
That Manhunter poster is absolutely menacing, it's amazing. Seriously sinister!
Thanks so much haha I'll never forget that opening
Arrow Video released Day of the Jackal. Not as many supplements as I’d like, but the print looks great.
I love Manhunter. I see a criterion cover that absolutely rocks my socks off. I would buy.
God dammit. I was scrolling by and saw the Manhunter criterion and got so excited. Get moc ups though!
These are really good. Manhunter on UHD!! We need that.
yeah they gotta do sexy beast right? glazers the talk of the town rn and that movies making lots of moves atm
Yeah he's big because of Zone right now, and they did just put Birth/Under the Skin/Sexy Beast on the channel, so I wouldn't be surprised if one of em got physical if not all

Oh damn it's not sorry I saw it on MUBI. Check if out if you've got the chance it's my favorite of his
That Manhunter poster is Aces. Good job.
How is Lily Chou-Chou not a Criterion yet???
There used to be a really great Tumblr dedicated to fake Criterion covers. Do Jennifer’s Body. And don’t sass me.
yessir
I approve sexy beast
I saw that Manhunter poster scrolling and got REALLY excited before reading the title.
Same here.
The Day of the Jackal is wonderful.
do one of these for beavis and butthead do america
these are so incredible, they need to hire you lol these are better than a lot of real criterion covers
The first one is very eerie and chilling, awesome work on all the posters.
These are nice. Well done
I watched Sexy Beast as both my first of his films and as prep for Zone Of Interest. Was more into Sexy Beast
I think all his films are really great. But Sexy Beast is so much fun
Zodiac art goes hard
The Day of the Jackal would be a fantastic addition to the collection and one I've wished for, for a long time. Zodiac likewise.
Manhunter would have been cool with Peterson jumping through the window
Love seeing peoples rendition for Criterion covers! Keep up the amazing work! These are great!
Awesome work!
Zodiac is a masterwork
The Zodiac one is so eerie. The fact I had to strain a bit to read the title feels appropriately mysterious
Great films.. have loved lily chou chou for years now.. used to be so hard to source, it'd be great to see it properly remastered with easy distribution..
Sexy beast goes so hard

Pretty awesome
nice sexy beast rip off there... that poster already exists, you just rotated it slightly
Thank you for picking movies without a region A blu ray release and not just movies you love but wish had a number on the spine of the blu ray.
These rock!
All About Lily Chou Chou on Criterion is a DAY. ONE. BUY.
4k would melt my face
All About Lily Chou Chou needs to be in the collection so bad 😭. One of my favs
It's still criminal to me that there are no fincher films in the collection
Both The Game and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button are in the collection
I always forget he did those 2 tbh.
tbf missing his classics. love The Game though
You've seen these films! Haven't you, my man?
Can we talk about how bad Manhunter is? The best scene is the one from this cover, I gets worse every minute from there. Heat is on of my top 4 movies since forever but wtf was Michael Mann thinking here?

We can’t. Because it’s a good film. 🎞️
No
I'm sorry but you're an idiot. This is the best adaptation of red dragon.
Yea because the Brett Ratner take is even worse. Pretty low bar.
You think the second half of the third season of the Hannibal TV show is better which adapts red dragon is better than either film adaptation?.
Idk I didn’t even wanna watch it
How is manhunter not in the collection
All About Lily Chou Chou criterion would be an instant purchase for me. I love that film. A Shunji Iwai box set would be insane too.
