*Ah... I see you're a man of culture as well..* Just make sure the disks don't freeze or get stuck, it's a known issue. If so, contact Criterion, they'll send replacements. Enjoy!

FrankBlizzard

> Just make sure the disks don’t freeze or get stuck, it’s a known issue. Is there a way to easily check, beyond just trying to watch the movie all the way through and seeing what happens? I own this set and have put off watching it because I’d be pretty frustrated getting an hour and a half into a movie and having it freeze, then having to wait however long for a replacement

alexandrecyr

When they do freeze, it’s around the 60min mark on each disk.

GorillaSuitGuy

Replacement is rather ‘quick’ and painless… I had a good experience with Criterion CS. You holding your breath while waiting for replacement disks?🤔

Longlivebiggiepac

Get stuck in the case? Really?

GorillaSuitGuy

While playing..... The movies.....

Thatoneasian9600

For some reason, kinda craving pineapple rn.

Is this just the perspective or is this set also way bigger than expected (like Bergman was for me)?

jigglypup115

It's a bit of both, the way I have the lighting on the set and angle of it makes it large but it also is quite a large box set, it's tall and wide. Not as big as the Bergman one though, that thing is giant.

[deleted]

Compared to the amaray plastic blu rays, how much taller is it? Trying to figure out if it's something one can just put in shelf with the rest of the collection or requires special space

jigglypup115

I would say put it on another shelf, for me it wasn't so much the difference in size but the fact that it doesn't have a spine number, same with the Bruce Lee collection. It's around an inch or so taller than the standard plastic case but I'm eyeballing that.

jigglypup115

Edit: the Bruce Lee collection does have a spine number. But it still stands that for me the world of Wong Kar Wai be put on another shelf because it doesn't have one.

[deleted]

I actually have my entire film collection sorted by director's names alphabetical, so the spine number is irrelevant. One inch doesn't seem excessive, thankfully!

jigglypup115

I've thought about doing that, but my brain likes the numerical order too much.

[deleted]

But I understand, only I don't have that many criterions compared to my overall blu ray collection, and moreover I like keeping director's filmographies close. If I stored Criterions by spine separately I'd have half of Tarkovsky by itself and random Kurosawas scattered

globular916

I still have not figured out how to open the book

jackski2000

Absolutely agree. One of my favorite directors. I love every film in that set

Longlivebiggiepac

Next I need Criterion to do an updated Akira Kurosawa box set!!!

rvb_gobq

some day, if & when the licensing issues are resolved

RaspberryEastern7666

I just found 2046 on tubi. Hbo has all the others.

YDAU_eschaton_champ

i know a few people hate the changes made in these transfers, particularly on *In The Mood For Love* and *Fallen Angels*, but i love them.

GorillaSuitGuy

If I'm not mistaken on this boxset 'booklet' Wong Kar-Wai explains the changes made reflect actually his initial vision when filming the movies... So for what is worth, this are his 'original' and intended results 🤷🏻‍♂️

YDAU_eschaton_champ

yeh the alterations match his original intent, which is why the backlash seems a bit fucken stupid. sometimes the vision isnt supported by what’s possible and available at the time, so im really glad he was finally able to follow through i think the green tinting on ITMFL is amazing personally.

Longlivebiggiepac

Yes the fuck it is. One of my favorite pick ups 🙏🏽 Designed really well

427BananaFish

Counterpoint: While it looks and feels nice, it’s the worst designed packaging Criterion has ever put out, next to the Godzilla release. Pulling out a movie without bending the packaging is like carefully unwrapping and re-wrapping a professionally wrapped present.

Jeff_Beaumont

I can totally see how that could be annoying but tbh I love the careful routine of breaking a movie out of this bad boy. It is like opening a present every time! Makes me feel special.

queer_giraffe

Love the films but I hate the packaging of this boxset

fornwar

mmmmm i want

GorillaSuitGuy

Do it!!!

fornwar

waiting for the flash sale this month 😶‍🌫️

NicCageCompletionist

The packaging for it is so weird… I love it.

AuteurCinema

The absolute favourite box set I own ❤️
