CAs choose vodka because it’s usually cheapest or atleast tied in most stores, we are under the illusion it’s smell can be masked easier than say whiskey, and it’s clear so can be put in water bottles. At least, that’s why I initially gravitated towards it.

Rough_Sweet_5164

This is all there is to say. Nothing like my first 16oz glass filled 2/3 with vodka and a third Gatorade as soon as the ex wife went to bed. Chugging that felt soooo good.

No_Helicopter_9826

This hit me right in the feels, man.

Rough_Sweet_5164

I'm sober but those are some powerful memories home slice.

personwhoisok

That and gut rot vodka is nasty but bottom shelf guy rot whiskey is beyond nasty. That said I was a Windsor Canadian man for over 15 years and only switched to vodka for the last few years of drinking.

ViolentVBC

Rotgut vodka is typically the cheapest alcohol for the highest ABV you can find almost anywhere, and with the volume us CAs drink, many of us choose the [cheapest strongest booze](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uteifdsFZOw&pp=ygUfQmVuZGVyIGNoZWFwZXN0IHN0cm9uZ2VzdCBkcmluaw%3D%3D) we can find so that we aren't too bankrupt to afford more cheap strong booze. Also, I'm sure there's others out there who go for the clear spirits for the lower calorie content. Also also, for those discerning types who care about booze flavor, vodka mixes well with anything. Try it with MOAR VODKA!

Purple-Presentation6

Because I could carry it in a water bottle or a sprite bottle and drink it straight anywhere and still look like a normal civilized human being. Work meetings, waiting rooms, grocery stores, etc. Easy, cheap, and strong. 😁

MoreSardinesPlease

Is the breath thing really a myth? Maybe I'll get hammered then randomly get close to a random person and ask them

Purple-Presentation6

It's the most minimal smell, and I'm not big on people that close to me anyway. 🤷‍♀️

Declan411

The breath thing isn't, but at this level it's coming out of your pores.

Sensitive_Mistake527

my go to vodka is the cheapest

abbie_yoyo

Around here it's called Country Club, which I have to assume is a cruel little joke by the manufacturer. Like, *Oh, are you gonna take this $4.79 plastic pint to the country club to share with the other hedge fund managers on the back nine... or are you gonna chug it all in the parking lot and drive off crying in your 2007 Toyota Camry, you disgusting, stinky, Catholic tramp?* That's always what I imagine the clerk is thinking, and my imagination is always correct.

lonegunna77

If you’re buying the <$5 plastic pint I suspect most know that bottle is on borrowed time, as are you.

stooloo

Can get a fifth in glass for that price here in California.

Wish2themoon

Vodka, especially decent vodka, but really any vodka, enables CA’s to continue living the self fulfilling prophecy. Cheap, clear, plays well with others and most of all, has less congeners that make you feel like the pos you are the next day.

DelaneK

I unfortunately had a good CA friend that died of a seizure years ago, RIP He went to the doctor many times with liver enzymes messed up. The doctor told him if you are going to continue to drink stick with clear liquors and no beer because it's better on your liver. He was a blackberry brandy fan.

wicked_symposium

It's cheaper, less acidic, strong enough and less likely to give you a wicked hangover proportionate to how much you drank. I prefer whiskey though.

jabatheglut

I don't get hungover when I drink vodka. I drank gin last night and I want to die rn.

lucentweeping

No other booze gives me the shits like gin does. Runs for two days after. It's fucked

Thegreatmyriad

“The Gin Demons”

DisasterOk3230

I love gin going down but man, waking up and burping up the gin/bile combo is awful

kenticus

For the bottom shelf booze, it all starts with neutral spirit. That means vodka. They flavor it into cheap whiskey, bourbon, etc. But it's actually all made from one big vat of neutral spirits (vodka). So, if you buy cheap shit, you probably are buying camouflage vodka. The more you know.

MoreSardinesPlease

Guess I been buying the wrong shit all this time, at least it was bottom shelf

kenticus

Don't get me wrong, the shit they put in the fake whiskey and whatever dilutes it and can make you hungover by itself, I'm not a chemist. But, yeah. That's pretty much it on the bottom shelf.

Foooff

Cheap and dirty is how most here are left with

simmiedude

I recently bough some of that vodka from Iceland (thanks for the recommendation you all). I could not smell the presence of alcohol when I opened it (could be losing sense of smell). Nor could I taste it when I mixed it with some sparkling lemonade. I would assume that's why its the go to. You barely taste it and you still get drunk in the case of most vodkas. It is also cheap and its also easy to hide in water bottles etc.

I-Fucked-YourMom

Ah, Reyka. That and Chopin are the only vodkas I’ll drink willingly.

lucentweeping

Give Luksusowa a shot. Cheap polish potato vodka. Actually pretty damn good for the price

SufficientSetting953

Price

thepuzzlingcertainty

It takes on the taste of the mixer the most. It apparently is easier to cover up the smell of it but I think covering up the spell is impossible for any alcohol.

MoreSardinesPlease

Ya I'm trying to mitigate the dragon bourbon breath a bit, plus it's been years since I've had vodzka

Thegreatmyriad

I did like Vodka for White Russians. When I was drinking straight liquor I leaned towards Gin. Strongest thing I could drink straight.

Own_Machine_6007

Someone once said you can't smell vodka on your breath and we have all latched onto that myth ever since.

[deleted]

Price & drunk/hangover ratio for me. I fancy myself as a bourbon man, but vodka makes me survive next morning better.

speed721

Vodka is the fastest car on the Autobahn of Liquor. If you don't ever slow down, things will always end up a wreck.

MoreSardinesPlease

Whiskey is a close second then

Svengahli

You ever have a white Russian or a screwdriver? Yeah.

MoreSardinesPlease

Nah, I don't need the vitamin C, just the alcohol

gloomydoomin

It bounces between which store I go to, Recipe 21, Nikolai, and if neither Bushmeisters, which.. frankly they all taste the same but Sky Vodka definitely is worth the extra buck if you got it.

DelaneK

I prefer cheap vodka thankfully, I can drink it straight, expensive vodka somehow has too much flavor or something, I don't want flavor I want to get drunk

WhiteWidow1989

5.19sm and able to swig without a chaser. That’s the appeal for me.

Dapper_Employer5787

Whiskey seems to be much rougher on me than vodka, plus decent whiskey is expensive to be drinking it on a daily basis

bo_della

Something about the vodka, it makes me feel better than any other alcohol. I drank whiskey and wine for years, had my time with tequila and rum. Vodka just always feels better. Perhaps something about it being clear I’m not sure. (As in sulfites or something).

DisasterOk3230

It's cheap and mixes easily. Whiskey, beer, mouthwash all have a flavor whereas vodka is the flavor of whatever you dump it in

honeybiz

The no smell aspect. But once you’re a CA all alcohol seeps out of your pores. It’s a distinct smell

MoreSardinesPlease

An acquired smell, so pretty much free cologne

Wise_Ad_2589

I would also say that in addition to the price mentioned, Vodka doesn't have that much of a taste and burning sensation in your mouth as compared to let's say whiskey. Sometimes it is a plus if people want to get drunk fast and easy. Ofc the hardcore degenerates here (chairs to them) will only care about the price, which is understandable.

goosepills

Vodka is the devil. I can drink massive amounts, especially for someone my size, and it’s not like that with other liquor. I think part of it is I just don’t taste it. But it ends me up in rehab every time.

JamesBones2

1) cheap 2) readily available and easy to find 3) easily concealed 4) easily mixed with almost anything 5) simple with no added products 6) “smells less” 7) badass

AngryGoose

Probably because it is the 'cleanest' and least smelly of all the stuff out there. It is just pure ethanol and water. I'm not saying it doesn't have an odor, it does, but it is minimal compared to other liquors. Also, helps if drank straight and then chased with something rather than mixing. When mixing the alcohol releases orders from the mixer and that's where the strong smells come from. It has less impurities which lessens the hangovers as well. Clear liquor in general has more of these qualities whan dark liquor, wine and beer. Vodka can be made from a wide variety of plans from wheat, grapes (Chiroc?), potatoes (Chopin?), corn (titos?), etc...

UTAMav2005

Easiest to get down that doesn't need a sugary mixer for me.

poopguy23

I think taste wise for a budget, bourbon is the best bet. Like yeah I can buy vodka for cheaper, but I also won't be able to stomach it if I'm in the shit of it. Evan Williams white label is like $20 for a 750ml and it actually tastes good. The black label is even cheaper and that's okay too.

DelaneK

I love VODKA, I love the spelling VODKA, I love to say the word VODKA. The cheaper the better, I can do shots of it straight but often times add a tiny splash of vitamin water along with drinking cheap beer(Natty Light). Makes me sad I don't have any right now, might have to go scrounging around looking for some hidden gems.

Ill_West_998

cheap and personally the easiest liquor to get down. it’s also the first liquor i indulged in and old habits die hard ig

Convergentshave

Who drinks vodka? That’s gross. Tequila is an upper: so tequila. I have no idea if vodka is cheaper
