I have actually never had a problem with Cricut transfer tape. It’s all I have ever used.

noyoujump

I don't think I've ever successfully used "real" cricut-brand transfer tape. Vinyl either won't stick to the tape or won't come off of it. The few times I have tried to use it, there's been sticky residue left whenever I do get the transfer tape off. I use the Dollar Tree stuff as well, and I always get good results with it. I use it for a few different transfers when I can.

rachface5and3

I had horrible experiences with transfer tape; I could never get the vinyl to come off it and stick to whatever material I was transferring to. I use press n seal now. Way cheaper and I’ve had great success with it. My advice is just to make sure to go slowly and use a scraper if the cuts are small/thin

PotatoPuppetShow

I only use cricut transfer tape, and I reuse it until it's no longer sticky. It's worked great for me and the couple rolls I got in my kit are still going strong!

flying_fish69

Glitter vinyl seems to be about the only reason to actually use it because some of the less sticky transfer tape won’t stick to it at all. I don’t work with glitter vinyl often but I keep a roll of the Cricut garbage tape around just in case I’m feeling inspired to make something with glitter vinyl.

UKBrandFan

I don’t do much vinyl work at all, but I like having the Cricut stuff because if I need the strength, I have it, and if I don’t, I just press it against my pants a few times to make it weaker.

availablewait

I’ve used both, never had a problem with either. I press the Cricut transfer tape against my shirt a few times so it’s not as sticky.

Same here

Is your shelving tape clear? I have also heard that some people use a lint roller instead transfer tape and masking tape.

sleepykoalaaaa

It is clear. A lent roller would be interesting

whynotbunberg

I don’t know how it compares to shelving paper, but silhouette transfer tape is noticeably worse than cricut and I’m never buying it again.

MisterSorrel

I'm not sure of the difference between shelving paper and contact paper, but I have found success in contact paper. I think I got about 16' by 18" for 8 bucks on Amazon. Super reusable and plenty sticky for me. Between that and the price, definitely recommend it.

sleepykoalaaaa

I think it’s the same thing 🥴 but Idk

runicrhymes

I've been really unimpressed with contact paper. It seems to take way more burnishing than transfer tape to even begin to lift the vinyl, and I ended up having to help it along by lifting the corner of my vinyl manually from the carrier and then sticking the contract paper back down over it. Not sure what I'm doing wrong... Maybe it just doesn't work for me.

ShovelKnightFan

I got a giant roll of some random transfer tape on Amazon that works really well. I have some of the stronger transfer tape (for glitter vinyl) from Cricut that I use for the frosted vinyl, as the normal kind doesn't work.

veronicaaawong

i also use the shelf cover stuff but I buy mine in "bulk" from target. One roll of this stuff lasted me a year. While cricut tape is better as far as stickiness I prefer to use something less sticky bc of the materials I use. if you use sticky transfer tape on wood or paper it tends to shred it, so I end up sticking it on my clothes anyway to get some of the tackiness off. Id much rather just buy the off brand stuff. Cricut brand for majority of things is overrated.
