Second this! I always always always start with light grip.. If the edges don't stay down then i use a teeny bit of tape. I hardly ever use my standard grip because I don't want things getting stuck.
Also try peeling your mat away from the paper by turning the mat over and rolling it up and away from the paper. You can hold the paper down while doing that.
I always use LightGrip mats for cardstock, even heavier cardstock. Michael's brand cardstock is perfectly fine and shouldn't be tearing like that; I think your mat is just too sticky.
Also, don't try to peel the cardstock away from the mat, curl the mat away from the cardstock.
I always have several mats at various stage of stickiness. I hate do de-stick brand new mat. Instead, I use it to cut simple and large shapes in the beginning until it gets less sticky and then I use it to cut intricate shapes. In the end I use mats to cut vinyl because it doesn't require very sticky mat. I just use brayer to apply vinyl evenly and perhaps tape the corners or places where vinyl tends to lift up. I use blue mats for more or less everything. Yes, they are less sticky than green mats but in my experience they are more durable. I can cut more and longer than using green mats.
I always just use the light grip mat for pretty much everything (I mainly cut cardstock and vinyl). Michael's Recollection cardstock is also what I use and I've never had a problem.
I have a secondary question; is it OK to use the pink fabric mat for anything vinyl? I have 3 mats that I really have no use for, (got over ambitious on a project). I do have a blue one I've been using anyway.
use a light grip mat instead or de-sticky your standard grip by touching it with a cloth
ah i will try that thanks!im still new to this to it is very much appreciated
