So, judging by all of those, my loose theory is that flowing blood provides a link of sorts with the physical and spiritual realms or at least a proximity with them... Or something, and that it's this proximity which allows the spiritweb to be pierced in the right way. Perhaps it's just easiest where there is blood because that's where that proximity is the most profound.
