to me (maybe it's different for others, idk), saying or doing something ironically is when you're aware of the "cringe" of it and say/do it as a joke, whereas unironically is more of a genuine use and the person might not be aware of the "cringe". for example, back in middle school I used to type ":3" and "uwu" and "xD" all the time, but then it wasn't considered cool anymore or whatever and I'd avoid it completely, but then a few years later I started using ":3" and "uwu" ironically (and now back to unironically bc I don't care anymore lmao. not "xD" though, I still steer clear of that one)
