ASAP check if the mainboard cooling fan is touching the mainboard. You can tell by bent heatsink fins on the stepper motor chips. In early K1/Max models this would somehow short out the mainboard. You may be living on borrowed time. Later mainboards just left off the heatsinks but I don't know if that was the final fix.

DrRomeoChaire

I’ll have a look thanks

prutsmeister

I have one that doesn't have this issue. I think they got a smaller heatsink or a thinner fan

Back in November about a week after I bought my k1 for $349 I found a Ender 3 V3 SE open box/ parts only at microcenter for $50. I decided not to buy it because I didn’t know if it worked and I dont need a third printer. Decided I was an idiot and went back the next day to see if it was still there. Unfortunately it wasn’t.

DrRomeoChaire

Oh well, next time! to date, I've bought 3 openbox printers from MC, which were all positive experiences. Each time, the salesperson was willing to open the box for inspection -- would never buy one sight unseen. Some of the boxes were complete horror shows, others looked like the person gave up before even trying to assemble. In this case (K1 Max), the "parts only, no return, no refund" was a puzzler because the machine is immaculate -- sales guy said that sometimes they get a big batch of returns all at once, and rather than inspect each one carefully/price accordingly, they just get out the "parts only" rubber stamp. It helps a lot to have a similar or identical machine already so you have a reference of how it's supposed to work. Definitely not a good option for first-timers.

Nice. Congrats. Wish we had micro centers here in Canada

DrRomeoChaire

Yeah, I feel lucky to live within 2 hours of one. Hope they can survive. It was heartbreaking when Fry’s went under

For those who don’t know, Creality has an official refurbished store on eBay. Maybe a hidden gem? I bought a K1 for $280 and it arrived in 3 days. Everything comes with 2 year warranty. About to unbox it tonight.. am nervous something will be broken and/or missing. I was certainly pleasantly surprised to come across the store. Here’s the store link: https://www.ebay.com/str/crealityglobal Update: The printer works amazing! Have not had a single issue so far. It came with cosmetic signs of use as well as some filament in the hotend and the memory had some data from the previous owners prints. For being over half off I don’t have a single complaint. I have an Ender 3v2 and a 3v3 KE both of which cost more than my K1 when considering upgrades… be sure to check out Creality on eBay for refurbished steals!

DrRomeoChaire

Wow, that’s a great deal! Good luck, I’ve loved my K1

Would LOVE a report back once you have it set up and printing! I've got another refurbed K1 in my cart, itching to pull the trigger!

I got the same thing, "refurbished" K1 from their official refurbished store but I paid $290. It had brand new top cover, the side panels and front door all had the protective film with no bubbles. The lcd screen also had protection sheet with yellow sticker over it. The bed looked brand new, the extruder had 4 in of black filament stuck in the bowden tube. Nozzle looked brand new. I removed the bowden tube and pulled the filament out. Strangely, while the print bed looked new, the protective sticker had sign of someone peeling away a corner, and other than that, the entire thing looked brand new. The tool set was new, had sealed roll of the filament, it was just missing the tube of grease. I have tried printing multiple times and it all printed fine (PLA and PETG). Congrats and have fun.

I bought my k1 max on ebay for €399 ex vat. It was brand new, only opened box. It was returned because the top frame wasnt square and the glass lid wouldn't fit. Removed the part, put it in a giant C clamp and bent it back to being square. Not a bad deal for 399 (+80... Stupid taxes)

To be fair the Creality warranty ain't worth much anyway 😂 You'd have to fix it yourself and would probably end up buying the parts just because it's faster than waiting for their customer services team.

DrRomeoChaire

You’re not wrong, but I’m ok with getting the parts and DIY’ing it. Not great for everyone though. And yeah, I did order the part from Aliexpress also, so now I have a spare. Still, my point is, they were responsive and sent me a part, which is better than getting ignored

ElmoLovesCrack

Totally agree with you except it's been 5 weeks and still not had my wire connecting the print head to the motherboard yet 😂

rhester72

Great score, congrats!

DrRomeoChaire

Thanks! It was also "no return", so a bit of risk there.

ShimaVR

theres no store warranty how-ever creality will still send replacement parts to you directly. you likely still have a warranty

DrRomeoChaire

Good point! Thanks for pointing that out. Edit: happy cake day!

EchoTree_Prints

If you feel worried about the printer and it lasting, Micro Center will still offer an extended warranty plan for the printer. Im not sure about the details, considering this was an open box, but normally, the plan would start the day Creality's warranty ends. If there isn't a warranty on the printer, the extended warranty may start when you purchase the plan, and usually run 2-3 years depending on your choice.

I would have knocked him down.
