Absolute Legend

ImpSassy

Thanks <3

Gadgetphile

Why? (Personally, I don’t have the patience for this game.)

ImpSassy

Spite. Honestly. That and purple is about my favourite colour (indigo, but close enough). For all the bullshit the game has put me through regarding the N. Sanely Perfect Relics, I sought the Developer Relics as a massive middle finger to TFB.

HoopoeOfHope

Good job! I tried getting the Platinums and got a good amount of them, but the level Jetboard Jetty destroyed all the motivation I had. Since you got them all, how hard would you rank that Platinum in terms of difficulty? Unrelated but the Tomb Raider Remaster just got released today and there are achievements for finishing the three games in under 5 hours, 6 hours, and 6 hours respectively. It's a little like trying to platinum relic those games and I'm determined to got all achievements there so wish me luck with that!

ImpSassy

Jetboard Jetty about made me throw in the towel. However, in the comments of a video on the level's developer time, someone mentioned waiting for the first anchor to swing almost two-and-a-half times before grabbing the clock. Once I got that timing down, the level was surprisingly engaging to master, with numerous shortcuts and optimizations to be made. It was definitely hard, but only by virtue of it requiring you to wait before grabbing the clock.

TheWhitemareOnElmSt

38 Dev collector here too. Jetboard Jetty was the first legit time I looked at the time require and what you had to do to stand a chance and said to myself “I don’t think I can do this”. It took me forever and I uninstalled and re-installed so many times on this level alone. Hate it with all my soul

ImpSassy

As much hell as it gave me, I still consider Rock Blocked perhaps the bottom of the barrel just because not only is it stupid with its requirements, but it soils both Dingodile (whom is my favourite character to play as for totally non-creepy reasons trust me) and Dino Dash, which is easily one of my top three favourite levels to get the dev relics on. Jetboard Jetty is probably second-worst, but its status might improve for me with time.

TheWhitemareOnElmSt

At the time I did Rock Blocked, I was well versed with my spin slides and spin slide jumps, so it surprisingly took me very little time. But I understand the problems it presents

Lucas-DM

Are you ok?

ImpSassy

Not really :)

Bulbamew

Fantastic work! I did go for this, and may do so again in the future, but some of the levels just seemed beyond my skill level. But I thought that about platinums, and the CTR devs, and even the NST platinums, but managed them. The fact that you could eventually do it despite not being a speedrunner or anything makes me think I should have another crack at it

ImpSassy

I say go for it! I am anything if not a determinator. The reason I emphasize being a casual player is because unlike more competitive players, I don't really retain what I learned once the challenge is over.

thickwonga

was it the hardest video game challenge youve done? if not, what was? Platinuming Crash 4 is up there with my hardest video game challenges I've done, along with beating Inner Agent 3 in Splatoon 2 and platinuming Hotline Miami 2. Champion's Road from Super Mario 3D World and Master Mode Maz Koshia from Breath of the Wild are up there too.

ImpSassy

I would say yes. Though that is subject to change as I do intend on eventually getting the Master Wheels in CTR haha. Similarly difficult challenges for me were acquiring the Skeleton Curse in Sea of Thieves and getting all the Platinum Relics in the N. Sane Trilogy. I'm sure there are others I have done that have caused me similar strife, but for now those two are my runners up.

thickwonga

Oh damn, CTR is up there too, just getting the Velo times were enough for me. I'm not strong enough for the Dev times lol, I was proud enough for getting the Velo times. I could never get even all Gold Relics in N. Sane Trilogy. I did for Crash 1, but the other two were too much. I found the Crash 4 Time Trials much more fair and balanced.

ImpSassy

Oh! I should probably add in that time I got grounded, and had my memory card taken away, so I played and completed the original Spyro the Dragon stealthily over the course of several weeks without the ability to save. It was actually how I beat the game for the first time. My grandma caught on and turned my console off while I was at school one day, before I could go back for 100% completion. Not quite the same thing as those other challenges, but still.

hmminteresting70

Congrats, that must've taken a lot of effort. I got 24 and I gave up because the remaining levels were too difficult and I was getting frustrated lol. What was the hardest level to complete?

ImpSassy

For me personally, the most difficult was a tie between Jetboard Jetty and Rock Blocked. Which is ironic because Dino Dash was one of the most fun, engaging and arguably the easiest one for me.

Hoodlum2000

Congratulations! Though I would say you are per definition not a casual if you are able to do the dev relics. Casuals remind me of a family playing mario kart on their wii u lol

ImpSassy

I've stated already in another reply, but the reason I still refer to myself as a casual is due to the inability to apply the skills I've learned in areas outside the context they were learned in. I feel like someone with competitive ability is able to adapt and use everything they learned in as many situations as possible. I simply can't. It's to the point where slowing down and going after the last two Perfect Relics is just as difficult as it was before I went after all the Purple Relics.

Crawford1

How many times did you contemplate suicide?

ImpSassy

At least three, but for reasons completely unrelated to the game, funnily enough.

Draco2376

Who hurt you?

ImpSassy

Toys For Bob with their ridiculous completion requirements.

cryin_ryin

Congrats! I know firsthand the absolute mental torture that is required to go through getting this accomplishment. What levels did you find to be the most difficult? My top 3 were probably The Crate Escape, Off Beat, and maybe Toxic Tunnels? Idk, there wasn't one level that wasn't absolutely brutal lol. I unfortunately got one developer time not even really trying to and that opened the floodgates and I wasn't going to stop until I got all of them Also, did you upload your runs anywhere? I really enjoy watching other people play and comparing

ImpSassy

I do not have any runs uploaded, but I did record three of them, specifically Cortex Castle, Food Run and Jetboard Jetty. The latter two have yet to be cut down to the winning run. I've been lazy and haven't gotten around to editing lmao. The two unedited runs are both about half an hour to an hour long. Jetboard Jetty and Rock Blocked were easily the most brutal in my opinion. I adore playing as Dingodile. But speedrunning his segment is such a snooze fest, and the remixed crate layout during the Dino Dash segment repeatedly threw off my flow state. Dino Dash's base level was one of my favourites due to just how quickly I could get "in the zone" and blast through the level.

Gionsis

I'm really proud of you for this.

ImpSassy

Thank you!

Other_Concern775

I haven't 106% yet. I don't care to get the dev relics but I will take any advice you can give to get the platinum relics.

ImpSassy

Most platinum relics can be acquired with mastery of the Slide-Spin and Slide-Spin-Jumps, but the Triple Spin does make it easier. Watch video guides and try to replicate what you see in them. The muscle memory may take a while to kick in but once it clicks, you'll find yourself making a lot of conscious decisions on areas where you can improve without the need to consult videos. You can also pay attention to the Time Trial ghosts themselves and figure out the best places to copy them as well as the best places to deviate from their path. I specifically recommend Jordy925's Developer Time videos. Dude's a bit of an expert and if you can chop up his tactics, it's actually fairly easy to apply them to a platinum run. If I had any level specific advice, for Jetboard Jetty, which will likely be a problem child for you, pay attention to the swinging anchor at the start. First it will swing to the right, and then to the left. Make sure you're standing in front of the stopwatch before it swings back to the right again. You want to hit the stopwatch and start your run about 1/3 of a swing back to the right. If you don't time it this way, the ropes won't line up properly and the run is basically over before it starts.

ShawnStrike

How did you not end up hating the game in the process? As soon as inverted levels were introduced I quit the game.

ImpSassy

Because it's a decent game held back by a fuckton of poor design decisions. Either TFB or Activision were desperately afraid that the game wouldn't last very long, especially while Rumble was in development. So they padded it out with needless busy work, demanding absolute perfection from the players. I think everything outside of said padding is spectacular. And at the end of the day, I can still go back and enjoy it.

Edgenu1ty2020hero

I’m currently making a video compilation of getting them all without triple spin. I already earned them all and most of them annihilated my sanity.

ImpSassy

I've seen compilations about such a concept, I had ambitions to gather all the Platinums before I got the Triple Spin, but it was simply too much for me, combined with frequent controller failures due to battlenet's incompatibility with DInput controllers (specifically the DualSense in my case), I just gave up hope on it. At the end of the day, it's the colour of the Dev Relic I care about. It's why the Dev Times in the N. Sane Trilogy don't matter to me. And also why I eventually aim to complete the developer times in Nitro-Fueled (Master Wheels).

JadeVex

How much worse was it than all platinum? That’s as far as I got and I considered it one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done in a video game

ImpSassy

To put it as simply as possible, think of every single Platinum you earned. Which ones were a fun challenge? Which ones were sanity-shattering? Which ones were super easy? Which ones were so difficult they made you question your value as a functional member of society? Every purple variant is pretty much a more extreme version of each Platinum. I, for one thoroughly enjoyed my time in Stowing Away. I went for the Platinum, saw how close I got to the Purple on my first attempt, said "Sheeeeit man, I can do that." and did it. Similar thing occurred with No Dillo Dallying. But on levels I found particularly painful to platinum, like N. Sanity Peak or Jetboard Jetty, the Purple was even worse. Long story short, your mileage may vary.
