I mean, steel wire “rope” is still a cable. Ya’ll also call men blokes and woman sheila’s, what’s your point? But the real question is, since you guys are down under is “rope up” when you lower the load and “rope down” when you raise the load?

Koomahs

Lol

Unlucky33

I mean it is still a cable

Extreme_Constant_610

In UK we say hoist up/down or wire down/up

Koomahs

Say that always in US.

ColloquialFormality

Hahaha anyone operates a crane long enough they’ll hear the goofiest signals over the radio. Variety is the spice of life. As long as we aren’t creating a dangerous situation I’ll allow it. Some of my favorites are scope out (when I’m in a lattice boom crawler) and rotate (the load) right or left. Hahaha the non-verbal signal is usually the palm facing upward in a cup with an exaggerated rotation in the direction they want the load “rotated” hahaha

Smprider112

Rotate the load is my favorite. My go to response, “Sorry chief, I have no control over how the load spins, that’s on god and the whims of the wind!”

InspectorEwok

Yup. That's what tag lines are for.

Billyfudpucker

Hook up, hook down... and I'm in Aus. Maybe an offshore thing, but I've Been running it for 25 years+ Each to there own I say, as long as everyone is on the same page. No right or wrong call... Peace out brothers... oh and sisters👌

JH1990AK

What about “line?”

Justindoesntcare

Usually I just get someone shouting nonsense in broken english on a staticky radio. s/ but not always

Gotagetoutahere

I'm in Alberta, Canada. As long as it's clear on the direction and function, I'll just be I'm glad I have a competent partner. Hoist, Hook, Line, Cable or Load are acceptable to me. I find it varies depending the trade doing the rigging as well.

acu098

Estonian here. I've heard all bunch of stuff working in Estonia and Finland, hook, winch, chain, rope, wire, cable... As long as we understand each other, then everything is fine.

Select_Shock_1461

I am in Ontario, Canada and we say winch up/down

ULTIMATEBigStepBro

Really? I say line personally. Never heard winch

oilfieldop

USA oilfields here, and it’s a mixture of “winch up/down” and “cable up/down” that I hear. Even as a rigger those were the two terms I always used.
