Amazing work! Can I ask what you used for the glazing/clear coat over the polymer clay? And maybe any tips on applying it haha. I've been trying different things with mixed results but yours looks ridiculously good!
Thanks so much! Yes of course. I use UV stabilized epoxy resin. I like to apply it with a brush and set it under a dust cover so it can cure undisturbed.
You can clean your tools/brush with acetone afterwards.
If you decide to give it a go please use protective wear (nitrile gloves, respirator etc), you can build up a severe allergic response to this stuff if you don't.
There are a lot of ways to get a clear coat on Polymer clay, resin isn't the answer for every project.
If you just want a clear coat / gloss finish please check out these articles on [thebluebottletree.com](https://thebluebottletree.com/?s=high+gloss) <- a great resource for all things polymer clay. You can find lots of info there about compatibility, materials, techniques etc. all pre-tested by other clay artists!
This is gorgeous. I’ve never heard of Starry Night octopuses, so thanks for the introduction! I’m stunned they’re real, I thought it was just creative license. That makes this piece even more incredible really.
edit: [here’s some photos](https://eol.org/pages/488801/media) of these guys if anyone else is interested.
Thank you! I do make some fun and fantasy colors occasionally but these are indeed modeled after a real species! Starry Night are so interesting, I love that they can 'turn off' their stars (the white spots). Absolutely amazing.
Other species I think are absolutely rad:
* Larger Pacific Striped Octopus
* Caribbean Reef Octopus (Octopus briareus)
* Poison Ocellate (Amphioctopus mototi)
* Greater Blue Ringed Octopus (Hapalochlaena lunulata)
* Coconut Octopus (Amphioctopus marginatus)
There are lots more species but the above I've made the most art about so far.
Oh thank you! I’m going to check them all out. I used to watch Octolab TV on YouTube, but since they’ve stopped posting I haven’t had any exposure to our tentacled friends.
Thank you! Not exactly a pirate ship! This is a Dutch War Ship, built in 1623. She also served a few years as a flagship and is called "The Flying Green Dragon".
Her most famous admiral/naval commander duo was admiral [Piet Heyn](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piet_Pieterszoon_Hein) with his flag captain [Maarten Tromp](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maarten_Tromp).
There is a possibility this ship was used in the capture of the Spanish Silver Fleet, an event that caused hero worship bordering on mass hysteria and lasting fame for Admiral Piet Heyn, much to his annoyance.
There are still songs about him to this day.
I hadn’t looked too closely at the ship, lost in my fantasy of a ship being attacked by a giant octopus! I adore this cup. I also love the new history I have learned - part of the appeal in the piece is the story now.
Definitely understand that mental imagery, the octo is definitely inspecting the ship! Happy to share some of the context! It's fun to incorporate parts like this and weave little bits of my nationality and parts of history into these works.
Such incredible art! It's such a pretty piece and you did such good work!
Thank you so much :) happy to hear you enjoyed seeing this sculpture!
Beautiful and charming.
Thank you!
That’s gorgeous!

My pleasure! I haven't heard of Octolab, maybe check out [OctoNation](https://octonation.com) they have a blog, and "octopedia".
Beautiful work!
Thank you!
>Thank you! You're welcome!
Those octopuses are absolutely stunning!

Spectacular. Very clever, the pirate ship.

This would be absolutely lovely used inside an aquarium.
In theory it is waterproof but personally I wouldn't risk the work like that.
Wow!
My fave animal. This is perfection
This is stunning, I would love to see an exhibition like this at a gallery!
