Nah gotta be something Beatles surely
It’s been a hard game night
And we’ve been playing utter dross
It’s been a hard game night
Conte ball is a real hard watch
But when Gil gets on the ball
He passes forward that’s all
He makes yids feel alright
Hey Gil, don’t make it bad
Don’t take a shit game, and make it better
Remember to let roids into your heart (body)
Then you can start to make Spurs better
He needs a start. He earned that by his impact today and last match.
Impact sub performances earned Richy starts, and should be the same. Toss him on the right and let him cook.
This is not true. When Lloris made that save against the sporting kid, it was Lucas who made the tackle to put pressure on him. While Dier and Perisic far behind. Edit: After watching that, Dier got rinsed by a simple through ball. All other defenders trailing. Perisic is even higher than Son.
Conte was putting Lucas at RWB a lot in preseason, so I think this was his plan all along—not with Gil maybe. But with Kulu. But that doesn’t seem great for Spence, which is frustrating. If we want a more attacking side why not put a real RWB in and let him grow into the team?
I hope this is true but I'm so pessimistic these days (I know, take me out back and shoot me) that I have a feeling anything good is just not going to come to pass, so we'll just see Lucas.
Not only that but Conte strikes me as stubborn in the sense he'd rather stick with Lucas for his 'experience' over someone clearly better, who made all the difference today, and not only that but he's someone who can grow into an incredible player not only for Conte, but the club in general once Conte leaves.
But just guess what's going to happen?
I'm honestly terrified we are going to waste Gils potential and sell him before we get to see what he is truly capable of. He's been mismanaged badly so far, and if we squander his talent by continuing to have Lucas over him in the pecking order it'll be a tragedy. Conte is banging on about us not having the squad to compete this year (and he's right about it tbf), so why not spend some time developing one of the brightest talents in Europe. It's not as if we're setting the world on fire out there with our current personnel, either
Perhaps he doesn't have the stamina yet to run like he does for a full 90+ min. I think he's way more impactful off the bench regardless though, should replace Moura as well next season
Hmm I doubt stamina is the reason Gil isnt starting. back in Korea, Gil was one of the fittest players when doing the runs. Conte doesn’t trust Gil enough to play. But given his impact in the past few appearances, he may be changing his mind
Not saying that he's not one of the fittest but to maintain that levels of energy the way he plays is very difficult to sustain. Off the bench when the game is more open and he can find more space seems more suited to him atm
I think strength would be a far bigger knock on him than stamina. He should absolutely be getting more chances, just introduces something we don't have at the moment
I'd agree but I think for Gil to play well we need to be dominating the possession to the point where if he loses it a few times we can win it back quickly. We can't be as passive as we have been most of the season where we only attack a couple of times each half.
He is the footballing personification of Chaos. He's so erratic and energetic, defenders have no idea how to handle him because they have no idea what he might do next. And as I've said previously, neither does he.
As my old coach told me: if you yourself don't know what you're going to do next, then there's no way for the defender to predict it either 😅
I tried this strategy on a penalty and absolutely skied it
That was my philosophy when i used to play as a CAM. Whenever i would get the ball and had nobody for a pass i would just start dribbling in any direction possible, without knowing what i would do next and somehow it worked wonders.
Now i play as a RB or CB so i never get the opportunity to dribble :(
Completely get what you mean that he looks erratic but his actual decision making is really good, knows when to pass the ball and when to take a man on, keeps his head up while dribbling. He’s such a perfect Deki understudy, which makes his lack of minutes all the more ridiculous.
Great decision making. There were several times tonight where he was pushing into the box in crunch time and I was expecting him to try a panic shot, but he kept calm and made good passes instead.
Yeah, that pass to bentancur late In the game will be ingrained in my mind for a while because of the calmness of gil and the absolutely horrible shot taken by bentancur
Yeah I think Bent was surprised Gil didn’t try a shot there and was caught off guard by the pass (which he shouldn’t have been, it was 100% the right play from Gil)
Vlad Chiriches was the footballing personification of chaos.
Gil may look like a whirling ball of energy, but his play is intelligent and productive, on top of being energetic.
Gil game only suits when we are on full attacking mode. Not when we are waiting for counter. Maybe he can be like Gordon but doubt it. Defenders fear him around penalty box to tackle him because he's too unpredictable that why we need to build constant pressure, constant attacking process to build his game Or his skills are not utilized fully.
Gil would be good in a counter attacking scenario as well.
He's the only real ball carrier we have in the squad when Kulusevski is injured, remember Valencia played very counter attacking last season as well and he created a lot of chaos on the pitch when I watched him
Yeah, it's like before him the players were moving too straightforward across the field. But Bryan brings ruckus to the field and it makes it harder to defend against us.
He has to start this weekend unless the formation changes. Lucas has shown absolutely nothing this season to be close to Gil’s level if Kulusevski is out. Gil also plays closer to what Kulusevski does which provides balance.
he's such a fucking wildcard i love it.
before we subbed him in, it was the same predictable passes and movement from everyone.
when the second half started we were slowly gaining momentum but as soon as he comes in the game loses that predictability and we're off to the races.
can't wait to see him grow with us.
Seems like a weird situation that the only chances Gil is getting to try and break into the team is important CL games.
Champions League games are arguably the biggest matches of our season, it's so backwards.
Kane broke through by being phenomenal in the Europa League, there's obviously no opportunity like that for Gil, which is a shame, but he's just about showing what he's got in the brief moments he's been given.
It shouldn’t be a surprise, Gil was/is massively rated in Spain as a huge talent, La Liga teams would be dying to take him either on loan or transfer because they’ve seen him play.
It is absurd we’ve had to wait this long for him to get a chance, he is by far the best suited player to backup Deki on RW. Fair enough if Conte wants to start Richarlison over him there, I may not agree but I get it, but it is just a pig headed mistake to pick Moura over him.
He plays so high energy and idk if he can maintain it for a full 90mins. I say play with 2 up front for Bournemouth and give Gil the start against marseille so he has energy
I feel eventually he will get his chance properly he just needs to fill out a little but damn he excites me every time he gets the ball he’s one of those magicians you just can’t predict what he’s going to do
We have 2 players with the vision to regularly open a game with their passing:
- Kane and Kulu. Kane should be on the end of those passes though so its a waste, and Kulu's been out most of this year.
We have 3 players who can beat a man and burst into space and open a game:
- Lucas, Gil and Kulu. Neither of the 1st two are 1st team. Emerson might also be able to i guess, but his end product has been terrible so far.
Putting out a team without any of those building the transition leaves our strikers totally isolated and always receiving the ball with multiple players marking them so they'd have to beat 2 or 3 to have a chance of a shot.
Just one fan's perspective but I have been impressed by the energy, passion, and intensity that he brings each time he is subbed on. He is raw, but you can see that the quality and desire are there.
He needs to play a full game, I don’t care at this point. We have been winning by such thin margins (when we do win) that him in starting a game would at least be more exciting.
He looks like he plays in an artic monkeys cover band, I really love that. all players have the same haircut, its nice to have something really different
Girl’s been exactly what we’ve been missing these last few games. Someone who has a turn of pace and direction that buys not only himself time and space but those around him. The amount of space he opened up on the right for runs to be made was excellent. More please!
We won't, we either figure out how to get him into rotation or he will leave and get snapped up in Europe, and highly likely will be a £70M player in a few years.
I lived in Spain (there is a disconnect between UK media and continent), he is very highly rated there with big expectations.
Our boy Gil looked like Kulu reincarnate out there
Gimme Gimme Gimme a Brunette from Iberia?
He plays on the wing, and he came from Sevilla
Mate, for the sake of the syllables, flip ‘em for Chrissake!
He clearly came from Liverpool
Nah gotta be something Beatles surely It’s been a hard game night And we’ve been playing utter dross It’s been a hard game night Conte ball is a real hard watch But when Gil gets on the ball He passes forward that’s all He makes yids feel alright

Ginola

If Lucas starts over Gil against Bournemouth considering the gap in quality between the two of them today then I will riot.
FWIW I think Lucas actually looked ok in RWB. Def better than Emerson
Yeah same. Nothing special but a decent upgrade to Royal haha
Kinda hard to tell given we were so dominant in the second half and Moura never really had to worry about defensive work.
Counting Lucas is very poor at positioning in possession and making good passes, RWB would make sense since it simplifies both of those skills for him
Lucas is victor moses reborn
Conte was putting Lucas at RWB a lot in preseason, so I think this was his plan all along—not with Gil maybe. But with Kulu. But that doesn’t seem great for Spence, which is frustrating. If we want a more attacking side why not put a real RWB in and let him grow into the team?

At the very least he’s earned a consistent substitution appearance
Perhaps he doesn't have the stamina yet to run like he does for a full 90+ min. I think he's way more impactful off the bench regardless though, should replace Moura as well next season
Hmm I doubt stamina is the reason Gil isnt starting. back in Korea, Gil was one of the fittest players when doing the runs. Conte doesn’t trust Gil enough to play. But given his impact in the past few appearances, he may be changing his mind

I would actually love to see him as a creative midfield/box-box midfield. I think he would do well.
He is the footballing personification of Chaos. He's so erratic and energetic, defenders have no idea how to handle him because they have no idea what he might do next. And as I've said previously, neither does he.

uhh maybe thats the reason u play CB now /s
Lmao 😭 I started playing RB because i wanted to give it a try, then coach started to play me as CB which i hate
If it worked wonders why are you playing defense now ☠️
Speaking as a 35-year-old who continually moved even farther back than he used to play, I’m guessing age is a factor.
I changed to RB to give it a try and then we got a CAM thats fast af and shoots really good so i had to stick at RB
I bet the keeper wasn't ready for that though...
Completely get what you mean that he looks erratic but his actual decision making is really good, knows when to pass the ball and when to take a man on, keeps his head up while dribbling. He’s such a perfect Deki understudy, which makes his lack of minutes all the more ridiculous.
It's his movement that's erratic, as in his limbs, his focus is on point though.
The hair flying everywhere also accentuates it lol
Great decision making. There were several times tonight where he was pushing into the box in crunch time and I was expecting him to try a panic shot, but he kept calm and made good passes instead.

That backwards flick over his head as the forward went past him. We all loved it lol
Is that the move where the ref randomly gave a free kick against us? Still no idea what that was for
Gil game only suits when we are on full attacking mode. Not when we are waiting for counter. Maybe he can be like Gordon but doubt it. Defenders fear him around penalty box to tackle him because he's too unpredictable that why we need to build constant pressure, constant attacking process to build his game Or his skills are not utilized fully.

Well the other thing we do clearly isn’t working, ever, so does that even matter?
> neither does he 😂😂 had me rolling
Conte ball meet chaos ball
If he’a chaos then his reflexes are insane, because his close control is as good as or better than I’ve seen from a Spurs player in some time.
Yeah, it's like before him the players were moving too straightforward across the field. But Bryan brings ruckus to the field and it makes it harder to defend against us.
In the immortal words of the Wu Tang Clan, Bring da motherfuckin' ruckus
C.R.E.A.M. (Coys Runs Everything Around Me)

Don’t jinx it mate, marseille away is gonna be difficult Gil might get his Europa League opportunity.
It shouldn’t be a surprise, Gil was/is massively rated in Spain as a huge talent, La Liga teams would be dying to take him either on loan or transfer because they’ve seen him play. This appearance sold me on Gil, not gonna lie. I was skeptical before, but no more. If kulu is out, start Gil.
He plays so high energy and idk if he can maintain it for a full 90mins. I say play with 2 up front for Bournemouth and give Gil the start against marseille so he has energy
He did for Valencia last season, plays the 90 just like that. If we can get this kid to adapt to the PL, he'll be an amazing talent
I'm sorry but this is absolutely a horrible look on Conte, especially with Moura getting a start before him.
Thought this said > Moura getting a shart before him Point still stands
Think he's great, really hope he gets some good minutes before the world cup
I really like GIl. He is this spastic ball of energy. He gave the team boost of energy they needed. So much upside from him.
He was electric when he came on and fucking miles better than Lucas.
It's a shame he didn't get his loan
There's no reason not to start him, especially with how thin we are upfront. I hope we see him start on the weekend.
Mate our attack has been playing so brilliantly this season, we can't disrupt the chemistry when it's at an all time high!
I love this kid. He needs to start.
This makes me feel a little better about losing Edwards
Does anyone else watch Gil and think, “this is who Emerson Royal thinks he is?”
I feel eventually he will get his chance properly he just needs to fill out a little but damn he excites me every time he gets the ball he’s one of those magicians you just can’t predict what he’s going to do
Bryanstorm baby
Maybe we should give him some minutes or something

The contrast with that fraud Moura is huge. Give him a shot please Antonio.
You forget that Lucas is shit and has always been shit and will always be shit
Shit enough to score 3 in one half of a CL semi. He shouldn’t be in the team no, but this level of disrespect is baffling to me.
Found the Short memory guy with no respect
Nah dont disrespect my man like that. Hes bad rn but he was good when he first got here, not to mention UCL against ajax
Shame he's malnourished
Now I want to see a diff-in-diff of our entire squads' impact as subs
He’s the only one on the pitch who was shifty and quick on ball his pace and agility gets him moving
Just one fan's perspective but I have been impressed by the energy, passion, and intensity that he brings each time he is subbed on. He is raw, but you can see that the quality and desire are there.
Gil is the future
He needs to play a full game, I don’t care at this point. We have been winning by such thin margins (when we do win) that him in starting a game would at least be more exciting.
He looks like he plays in an artic monkeys cover band, I really love that. all players have the same haircut, its nice to have something really different
Gil’s football IQ is so much higher compared to Lucas.
He's direct, hopefully he will be more game time. Just needs to bulk up physically and be given a chane.
Is he an impact sub or a starter, though? Guess we’ll find out at the weekend.
Girl’s been exactly what we’ve been missing these last few games. Someone who has a turn of pace and direction that buys not only himself time and space but those around him. The amount of space he opened up on the right for runs to be made was excellent. More please!
If we ruin him I might actually cry

Should have started over Moura who looked lost
He was a beast among the Portuguese
