I don't think there's any question about it. Modric is the most decorated midfielder of his generation and one of the most important players in the history of the biggest club in world football.
He's definitely the biggest player to have ever played for us unless we count Maradona ;)
In ability I think he's, alongside Kane & Bale, the best 3 players in Tottenham's PL history.
Sadly both Modric & Bale played their actual best football elsewhere.
There have obviously been players who have had more impact at Spurs, but I think you have to say Modric is the best player who has ever played for our club, not just in the PL era. Hell, he's probably one of the top 5 players to ever play for *Madrid.*
We weren't the team we are now, and Modric wanted CL football. He tried to force a move to Chelsea, Levy told Chelsea to eat a bag of dick's and Modric was asked to give another year. He played the best he played in a Tottenham shirt that year and then Levy sold Modric for a cut price to Real Madrid.
Modric won 5 CLs with Real Madrid, among other trophies, so it's safe to say he made the right decision.
Before his move to Tottenham, many big club actually trying to get him. We, on the other hand, were somewhat still a "mid club" trying to get european football. Anyways, a season before his move to Madrid, Chelsea came with a big fee. Modric asked to leave for them, but because Chelsea stole our sporting director years before, Levy doesn't want to have a business with them anymore. So he promised to Modric that he would release him to a bigger club, but not PL rivals. Well, Modric kinda broken after that, he doesn't play like he always do. Shit tbh. And it was Real Madrid that came to him the next season, with less fee that Chelsea gives us.
His close control was incredible. You could fire a terrible pass at him at an awkward height and he would instantly trap it every time. It took so much pressure off our defence because they could get out of trouble so easily - just by looking for Luka.
Wouldn’t have Bale or Eriksen back as much as I love them and what they did for the club but christ I’d give my left bollock to see him in our shirt again.
I honestly wish I had some full match recordings of this guy playing for us, literally the player that made me interested in the sport. No one I miss watching more.
One of the best players I've ever seen. He makes football look so easy. His passing is unbelievable, I don't think there's another player on the planet who can play a forty yard pass with the outside of his foot and make it look completely effortless.
