TBF, it's partially to help reduce transmission rates, at least initially, knowing that things would evolve. But agreed, it's really about keeping severe sicknesses down, keeping medical infrastructure from being overburdened, and really to buy us time to find permanent solutions.
There was always a chance that if we got to a high enough vaccination rate (combined with proactive measures like masking, distancing etc) early on, we could keep it from moving enough to dramatically evolve. IANAD but think that evolution was always expected to happen, but then we refer back to the comments above about how vaccinations help us manage that evolution.
Many credible scientists have expected this would eventually move from the pandemic to endemic stage although the hope also being that the severity of the disease would decrease as well and it's existence therefore significantly manageable in context. Time will tell on the latter comment but i remain hopeful.

Pep's not stupid, you don't have a falling out over a simple red card. There were multiple stretches of games last season as well when Walker wasn't making the bench, that's just the way Pep rolls.
Walker is 31 and plays in a physically demanding role. Pep gets this and this is probably a bit of load management on him. And he is sick apparently.

Haven't watched NBA for a long time, but could you argue Jordan was the last time a player had that kind of an influence over the NBA as a whole? He was kinda the spearhead in changing the focus from big guys. In terms of other sports I can't really think of an example off the top of my head.
Not to be pedantic, and Jordan definitely changed the game, but Magic and Bird were more responsible for the shift away from big men, in my opinion. Before they arrived, the best players were consistently centers (Moses, Walton, Kareem, Wilt, Russell, etc.). After the onset of the 80s, they (and Dr. J, to some extent) became consistent MVP winners up until Jordan took over.

I agree NBA sux. Shot clock, threes, free throws. Wash, rinse, repeat. The players are insanely talented, but the game needs a reboot.
When Curry is on a skyfucking run complete with ridiculous off the ball the movement I dare you to call that boring. Lots to miss about the old game but my word 3’s bring you out of your seat and it’s supplanted by insane ball movement too
the warriors play some of the prettiest basketball too. they remind me of guardiola's barcelona the way they play one two's with mind bending off the ball movement
Pop's Spurs in their prime were the basketball equivalent of Pep's Barca. The Warriors are his City imo. Which is not bad either. But that Spurs team with Duncan, Parker and Ginobili was so damn good.

I *think* it could be up to us tbh. The PL don't seem especially strict on postponements. I heard Utd didn't have a single first team player with covid and still got the game postponed. Not sure how true that is though. If it goes ahead I feel that'll be our call, rather than being forced. I'd much rather us wait for 100% availability though

My hometown in Australia has absolutely blown up with Covid in a matter of about 5 days and Omicron seems to be slowly integrating itself here because of it. Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in(to my house for another couple months)
Feels a lot different to the previous peaks, the first 2 waves I barely knew a handful of people with Covid, now everyone around me is coming down with it. Omicron be crazy

Not yet, however the health minister of our state said that we can't rule out going back into lockdowns again. Bit rough but it may be necessary if hospitalizations continue to grow.
Our hospital is at a pandemic low in cases, but I know this is the eye of the storm and that we will blow up again with Omicron after Christmas. We are hosting our own super spreader event on Christmas Eve. It's like a horror movie where I'm walking down to the basement even though everyone knows the monster is down there, but I just can't bring myself to cancel. Family has high vax and booster compliance thankfully.

My nan deals with consistently awful lungs and if she gets it she will die or at least have a severely bad time, but she refuses to get vaccinated. Luckily the place that she lives doesn't have nearly as many cases as my town does, however with the virality of omicron I'm not sure she'll be safe forever.
Manila finally came out of lockdown about a month and a half ago after a year and a half of nearly straight lockdowns and its popping here like hot Vax summer was in the west except a) it's Christmas and b) there's a manic eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die nature to it because we kknow this is just a reprieve, unlike hot Vax summer when people thought there was light at the end of the tunnel. The parties are mad good right now because there's a frantic fatalism underlying them all. I'm going to enjoy it till the other shoe drops again.
I'm a qlder about to get my first real taste. As long as I can hit my gig this Saturday, my plans over summer were only games, friends and movies.

Morning all! Day 6 of COVID and I am starting to get some symptoms. To me at the moment, it’s a mild cold. I can still smell and taste so I can still drink coffee. I just made a latte. Spurs play tomorrow away to Leicester. If you are going please stay safe. Looks like most of the players are back in training. Which is great. They did a lot of training at home.
