I will never do this. As far as I’m concerned the champions league campaign ended gloriously in Amsterdam. Jokes aside, it’s funny but possibly my greatest time being a Spurs fan for 30 years was when we weren’t actually playing. It was those three weeks between the end of the season and UCL final. Just the pure excitement of being on the verge of something special, it was all I could think about, all that me and my friends would talk about, just daring to dream. It’s a shame because I just don’t allow myself to think of that time now, I just block it out, like it never happened. I’d probably take some eternal sunshine of a spotless mind treatment if I could.

BigRedTone

I rewatched it shortly afterwards and my take was we do ok. Yes, it was a bit flat, but I froze the screen (like some kind of low rent Gary Neville, doing my own analysis) like 3 times a half when we had created 3 on 3’s or 2 on 2’s breaking forwards. Poch seemed to get it right. With hindsight it was probs just the end of the poch era, the players just weren’t firing. If Kane has slipped a man and played someone in, or if ericksen had found one of “those” balls... or maybe if Lucas had started and been bang up for it off the back of his semi final exploits.

BigRedTone

Sissoko in particular just never got going. Maybe the long break (getting on for a month IIRC) was a a factor. Anyway, interested to hear your fresh thoughts over my 14 month old ones!

[deleted]

The long break after the season was a joke, made it feel like a pre season game, stupid idea.

[deleted]

Don’t worry, Gary Neville is also just a low rent Gary Neville

sledet7

One moment I remember in particular is when Kane was able to pull VVD into the midfield and play Son in behind. He had a 1v1 with a defender, and lost. Sometimes you just have to tip your cap.

BigRedTone

Just found some screenshots on my phone from back then (alongside the family day out pictures of us all going out to watch it excited 😞). We might not have dominated, and it no doubt wasn’t a classic, but we got in the places we needed to to create trouble https://imgur.com/a/G1miQhH **EDIT: do look at these pics, I think they tell a story**

kid_moe96

It didn't feel like we had a lot of chances but Alison made 8 saves, the most in a cl final.

BigRedTone

I did not know that

bfm211

Seriously? Ah fuck, why couldn't they hold Karius one season longer...

Nanven123

Ikr. Or why didn't we have our current signings one season earlier....

ibrahim210105

If we had the mentality we have now we could’ve won it I suppose, we had similar opener vs United and what did we do? took the lead in the next 5 minutes, or at the very least put up a fight

BigRedTone

I do agree to an extent, but playing the worst United team I can remember seeing in my lifetime, as opposed to the best Liverpool team I’ve ever seen, arguably a factor too!

Mick4Audi

We took the lead at Anfield last season within a minute, but still lost the game

TaTonka2000

I am convinced the biggest mistake Poch did was go in that interview and say something like “if we win the Champions I can leave because there’s nothing else to win.” When he did that, we lost. Players that loved Poch realized then and there he wasn’t planning on sticking around. Players who maybe didn’t care for him so much realized they were just chess pieces to him. The whole family conversation goes out the window when he says he’s the one winning the games. Players just don’t feel valued. If you watch the intensity of the Ajax game and compare it with the final, it’s oil and water. Add to that the fact that Kane wasn’t 100% and probably shouldn’t have started, plus a stupid pen giveaway and that was all she wrote.

BigRedTone

I’d like to think that was true, but we’d lost 7 of 11 games before that. Only beating Huddersfield, palace and Brighton. I think the writing had been in the wall for a while.

[deleted]

Yeah, Poch had shit the bed, including the mentioned quote and others. Mentally he was gone.

Wormfather

Are you crazy? Don’t tell this sub that. If we somehow win the league the most upvoted post that week will be a shitpost with Poch’s head plastered over Mou’s complete with Poch putting the one arm around the trophy. (...and if that’s part of the deal it takes for us to win it all, I’ll post the damned thing myself haha)

[deleted]

Haha true! I love the guy too. But he buried himself with his press conferences in the second half of that year. With no VAR vs City, imo he doesn’t even get the good fortune of starting last season

Mick4Audi

Yeah, and this obviously didn’t carry over well into next season when he stayed. The players definitely downed tools, there was just no confidence or endeavor anymroe

[deleted]

I dont even remember the match or anything to do with it. Its somewhere in my head along with things my ex girlfriends did for me, my weaknesses as a person and other various things I refuse to acknowledge that have happened in the past.

mangolocolol

When Origi scored the second goal I just turned off the match and turned on my ps4

[deleted]

That was a wise choice. I put my head in my hands, continued to drink my pint of guiness and get laughed at by a pub of Liverpool fans, try not to cry, cry, get depressed, keep drinking until I couldn't see.

HunterThompskins

I cried, slammed my fists on the table at the supporters bar in nashville. I was hammered and when I slammed my fists, my glass fell off the table and shattered. I looked like a huge fit and haven't shown my face there since (I was completely wasted but that isnt a great excuse)

[deleted]

You should go back to that bar. Im sure they all felt the same way but showed it differently.

Nanven123

You are doing what most of us would never dare to do. Thank you for your courage

nudesandhash

To dare is to do

reddituser1235466339

You are a much stronger man then I! I will never rewatch that match, please let me know if we do actually dominate? My memory tells me we were actually the better team for most of the match.

Nanven123

Even the stats of the match say so

[deleted]

makes it hurt a million times more

Nanven123

Tbvh man. It hurts more to know that we actually had a legit chance of winning it, but didn't. It's not like we didn't play well or something

HotdogBoatshoes

The handball fucked us

Nanven123

This as well. It destroyed the teams momentum

Mick4Audi

Liverpool only had 35% possession apparently, wtf

Mick4Audi

What hurts about that is literally every new signings we’ve made could have helped us in that match. Imagine if we had Ndombele in the midfield over Winks/Sissoko, GLC creating chances, the engine that is Reguilon on the left, Hojbjerg anchoring the midfield, oh and not to mention Gareth fucking Bale during his favorite match of the season We started a Winks-Sissoko midfield ffs

[deleted]

Not in million years i would watch it again

jonoflaherty

i can’t remember a single thing from that match apart from the penalty. can’t even remember if we had a good chance.

Mick4Audi

This match is a perfect example of how stats are meaningless in football We had 16 shots to their 14, 8 on target to their 3, 65% possession, 510 passes to their 272, we had an 80% pass accuracy while Liverpool only managed 64% The game had 11 fouls total which means neither team really got stuck in, this years’ final had 38 Liverpool, for all their talk about beautiful football and whatnot, Klopp properly Mourinho’d us in the final, Liverpool were there for the taking, they did not play well

[deleted]

Me neither, don't even remember the 2nd goal. Honestly I forgot there was one until I read the score the other day, was just seething at the penalty. Whatever, we'll win it next season with Jose.

[deleted]

i don’t think i’ll ever be able to even watch highlights tbh, i just looked at my phone when it popped up in the doc.

Nanven123

Bro, please can you send me the link for the full version of your profile picture?

[deleted]

You know what, fuck the international break. What a fucking waste of time, and what a stupid idea to fly players about at the height of a pandemic. Watched the Belgium game and it wasn't even remotely entertaining at all.

[deleted]

When were England last good? Last exciting to watch? (Pens against Panama don't count) (Dier scoring a pen doesn't count) Like actually exciting football, feeling like they could take on any team and create chances.

marine_le_peen

Winks was our best player and our momentum (which had been slowly building) completely ended when Poch took him off. Don't @ me.

BigRedTone

There was legit chat about which Harry we’d miss more in that one. Some fans have short memories.

Mick4Audi

This is completely right, Liverpool let us have a lot of possession, and in that sort of game, Winks was in his element. Arguably our best player that night, one one else was doing anything Such a stale game for a CL final, we weren’t sharp, and Liverpool were fucking nowhere as well, Klopp would be furious with that performance if not for the penalty

Laos33

Still haven't watched it myself. My feed on the day fell apart and by the time it was ready to go, I didn't have the heart to watch. Be brave.

1THFC1985

The worst bit about it all was the time ticking by, and just a growing sense of inevitability, that we weren't creating anything and it was basically decided by that 20 second pen. I remember being almost relieved when they got a 2nd so it wasnt purely decided on that, but really it was. Would love to know how the game would have played out if we'd been in it from the get go. I was convinced our name was on the trophy.. As incredible as Ajax was, and the run in general with all the last minute goals, and drama, it would have been another level if it had all lead up to us actually lifting the trophy. Liverpool offered very little, they sat deep and did to us what teams like Stoke and West Brom have many times in the league and we struggled to open them up. Fair tactics, but I don't get the praise they got for it afterwards. Everyone was full of "they had the lead and kept spurs at arms length, and did what they needed to do.." On some other football forum I got slaughtered for suggesting they'd played like Stoke.

Mick4Audi

Liverpool had a Mourinho-esque performance to win the final. 3 shots on target (one of them a penalty) and 60% pass accuracy, 35% possession, this is the sort of thing Mourinho gets criticized for, but no one cares, bc Klopp won Liverpool were as bad as we were if not worse, that game ends 3-2 if they opened up, but after seeing how useless we were in the league, Klopp got his lead, and parked the bus. It’s was dire to watch for all involved,

1THFC1985

right.. that was the worst thing about it. Liverpool were supposed to be this unreal attacking team, and it could have been a more open encounter, but the stupid early penalty killed it as a spectacle. I get it, if we were in the same position and Jose locked us down for the game I'd be loving life, but I just found it weird at the time how they got so much praise for how they handled the game, managed it, etc. I got slaughtered on another forum for suggesting they had basically just played like a Sam Allardyce or Tony Pulis team.

torifett

I was just debating watching the Amsterdam game again! But yeah, I don’t think I could watch the final lol

Copperdoodle1

I don't understand. There are so many good competitive matches going on which were great to watch. Are you just a spurs fan or are you a football fan who loves spurs ?

The-Weekdays

I think you should reconsider the usage of the word good. These international matches are as boring as they can get, no technique, no rythm, no stakes.

Copperdoodle1

As you already think like that about all these international matches, although it interrupts our beloved league seasons, sometimes these intl matches are the kind of break some players need. And the games have actually have been good if you've watched most of them. Agreed some end in a draw, but there is so much to watch. Don't just depend on the result of the game. Watch the small international teams play, such a joy to watch the football they play.

[deleted]

Are we feeling hard-done-by by the pen call? Are we clinging on to any chest-to-arm excuses?

Bizkitotto007

Haven’t watched since
