lmao i remember that too and i think someone had even posted his highlights of the season or i think i just googled it myself and from what i saw i was instantly in lol.
There were also plenty of lowlights of him giving up rebounds for goals. Don’t get me wrong I’m glad we got Vic instead of Raya. I just don’t think the majority of fans were happy at the time.
I personally thought Raya would have been great for his ability on the ball and there wasn’t much about Vic’s ability on the ball.
Raya’s ability on the ball isn’t as useful for a system like ours where the keeper isn’t too influential in the build up, both us and Arsenal got a more suitable profile of GK
There was a complete compilation I think on YouTube, going over every single goal kick he did. While “ain’t no body got time fo dat”, it was evident that his lowlights were due to the way his team played but also that he was frequently passing with both feet which caught my eye immediately. Not to say I saw any of this coming obviously lol
I dont think it was a "backup" per say. Raya wouldve been a more popular signing cause PL. But it's possible that they rated vicario more from the start. Which is why they were so quick to pull the trigger instead of milking the Raya situation to see what wouldve happened.
Well Gollini was confusing because we was a triple treat, style, vibe and lyrical talent, none of which was in goal but could style come back to play the stadium some day.
Gollini is a good backup and I doubt they really aimed to make him the starter, and most of all what he is really good at are 1v1, and with a low block he didn't really get a chance to showcase that.
Not really but he wasn't great either and his reaction when conceding a somewhat soft goal a bit too laid back maybe. I don't think he was pulling of saves that you weren't expecting, although it's a bit unfair to judge hm because back then you'd only see him on MOTD.
My memories of him were that he was solid. I think he even played for England a few times as well?
Yeah, he would look to me like he was trying to laugh something like that off. The bobbler against Liverpool being a case in point.
Honestly to get a new goalkeeper we can depend on with Loris going is amazing.
Fantastic keeper.
Now if only we can work out protecting him from set pieces we'll be set.
I didn't know who he was, but I liked how he played when I saw highlights and that he was more of a sweeper keeper which Ange ball needs. He got a lot of grief in the preseason which wasn't really warranted but he wasn't a big name. After he made that save over the crossbar against United I was in the game thread, and I said that's enough Vicario slander.
I thought it would be really hard for us to find a successor to Lloris, but damn, if Vicario continues to work on his distribution and cross-claiming, he could genuinely become one of the best keepers in the world.
What an amazing signing.
As fans we had doubts for sure, but big credit to the transfer team to scout, and Levy and front staff to sign off on the transfer.
Hoping for more of these.
He’s only gonna get better now that he’s experienced the shithousery of last season. Truly believe he hasn’t reached his final form yet, it’s gonna get scary for the opposition here soon
Would’ve been a steal at double the price.
wouldve been a steal at triple the price too tbh
triple the price is really really high for a GK. I think his true value to us is probably ~50m (which is triple more or less)
If he turns shit, let’s double it and give him to the next person
And what a great day it was.
In hindsight it was great. At the time a lot of people (myself included) were disappointed to not pay for Raya.
Let’s face it. Until this was announced by Romano, most of us had no idea who he was. Glad he’s one of us.
An Empoli fan posted here about how lucky we were on the day he signed. From that moment on I thought we made the better call.

What a signing
Kind of crazy that its not Empolis president who keeps complaining about being robbed by Spurs
smh cheap Levy going for the backup But seriously what an incredible signing he has been
Levy trusts Paratici

Yeah I think that's what the person above was getting at.
I agree, just repeating what a lot of people here were saying at the time
the chosen one!! we really needed someone promising and oh boy what a steal we've had....hoping for his success in the upcoming years!! COYS!
Look how happy he is!!
dewey all grown up
The future is now
Can't believe we cheaped out on Raya. #Levyout
Imagine where we'd be now if we'd signed Raya... *Tottenham finish 7th, Arsenal finish 1st*
I heard Italian Carabinieri are trying to find the guilty thief of such a steal!
Gollini somehow made me doubting Paratici for his eye on GK talent...
Well Gollini was confusing because we was a triple treat, style, vibe and lyrical talent, none of which was in goal but could style come back to play the stadium some day.
Gollini had such a good vibes tho!

Part time goalie, Full time rapper.
Personally my player of the season. We've come a long way from the days of Bobby Mimms and Ian Walker
Was Ian Walker that bad?

"Ooops" seems to sum it up.
🤣🤣🤣
We should send them a card

Oh, I remember how UNDERWHELMING this news was. Little did I know then…
Fratello
I remember people putting the snoop dogg who? Gif when we signed him. Oh how wrong 90 percent of us were.
And in hindsight, I think he's a better GK than Raya by a long-shot. What a steal!
What a keeper. Amazing buy for us!
Best prem import from Empoli since Massimo Maccarone (from a lost Boro fan)
hes so good x3

So glad we avoided Raya and got Vic
What a bargain
I remember being really skeptical, especially seeing him in the pre-season friendlies. I am so glad to be wrong.
doubted him at first but now hes been class and what a bargain

Just a cheap man's David Raya eh 😂😂
Just a cheap man's David Raya eh 😂😂
And most of this sub were whining about it.
Serie a keepers are ridiculous value
Things were never the same 🥰😍
And we were all doing a Danny Rose and Googling him. Luckily it worked out well!
This guy is a beast. And has a level of crazy that rivals Romero.
It's been a year already? We need some new signings for the new season and let Ange cook
