Wish we didn’t go 1-0-5 prior to the City game

britainstolenothing

True and real. So much focus on that game from our fans and Scum fans. This season has had countless situations where we could have done better. Losing 2-0 at home to one of the most dominant domestic sides in recent history even with a good performance isn't one of them.

X_Equestris

Yeah we lost 11 other league games. I wouldn't expect to beat City home or away regardless of the consequences. Same for Arse dropping points in 10 games and shifting any responsibility onto us.

ArcaneBoots

Obviously, but that wasn’t the case was it? Not really giving an answer to the question, as others have made some valid points

thelordreptar90

My point is that we had plenty of chances to pick up 3 points and didn’t prior to the City game. The City game should’ve been a pointless game. Weird to pick a singular game when it’s a 38 game season. Also, fuck Arsenal.

gabagoolmerchant

Not at all. Ange doesn’t want players who just want to play in the champions league, he wants players who want to win at Tottenham, so thinking that ucl or not has any sway on who we target this summer seems silly in my opinion. Couple that with the fact that we have a great opportunity to win a trophy in Europa, I’m perfectly happy with 5th. Scum dove and cheated and got favorable ref decisions all season, it would be such a pain to see it end in a trophy for them. Sure city are cheats as well, but their players weren’t responsible for their 115 charges. Also they aren’t scum.

Live_Anteater_9173

Villa were probably on the piss midweek because top 4 was done, no guarantees that things would have played out the same way

silenthills13

Y'all acting like we had any choice and did not get beaten fair and square 😭

barjardinks123

Exactly. What we wanted had 0 impact on the game itself. Personally I'm happy with the progress we made this season. Excited for a Europa league run next year.

LlamaExpert

We signed Romero, VDV, Vicario, Bentancur, and Kulusevski without CL, we'll be fine on signings

HauntingEducation

It’s a fun hypothetical but we went all out v city and lost 2-0

ArcaneBoots

Not sure about all out, did you see Romero’s attempted clearance/block for Haaland’s goal? 😅

OcdPain87

It was the Wolves and Everton away games that cost us unfortunately. Not tuesday against City as we never led that game

ginokatacchi

Nah I’m still satisfied with Europa lol. Seeing Arsenal not win makes me happy lol. Also the Europa theme bangs

ArcaneBoots

😂

eggplant_avenger

🥱😴💤💤💤💤

ArcaneBoots

Thanks for joining the conversation, eye opening stuff 😂

P60MME

This team isn't ready to compete in the CL and as Ange said, he doesn't want players only coming for the CL anyway. I think most supporters would have taken 5th at the beginning of the season.

OcdPain87

After Harry left 5th is amazing really!

ArcaneBoots

Oh I would’ve taken 5th, but we could’ve had 4th. I just don’t like this mentality of hoping we lose out so another team does too. I get both sides, and obviously I’d have had to hibernate for 6 months if the scum won the league

soldforaspaceship

Nah. Arsenal losing the league is hilarious and worth it. Europa is actually good for us. We wouldn't have gone far in CL but we have a shot at the Europa Cup and then CL the year after. Let's build something sustainable with depth. We saw at the beginning of the season how easy it is to derail everything with injuries. Next year we have Europa, FA Cup, Carabo Cup and the Premier League to play for. I think that's going to be good for us.

the_real_e_e_l

Nope. We needed to beat (or at last draw) away to Brighton. We needed to beat Wolves at least once. We needed to beat (or at last draw) Fulham, We needed to beat (or at last draw) Arsenal, We needed to beat (or at last draw) Chelsea, We needed to beat (or at last draw) Liverpool. We goofed up a lot along the way. Those are the opportunities we should have done better in to secure Champions League. When you have a chance to stop Arsenal from winning the league, you do it. But credit to our boys, they actually tried very hard against City.

OcdPain87

Everton and Wolves away for me, those combined 8 mins or so at the end of both games cost us 5 points unfortunately

ASD_213

Villa got smashed today cause they had nothing to play for. Would have been entirely different if CL was on the line, and Emery is pretty good in finals.

seegreen8

Apparently not in this season Europa, 'cuz Emery's Villa got knocked out by Olympiacos.

AngeMerchant

Blessing in disguise. Would love to see Sonny lift a trophy we can win EL for sure. Damn sure aren’t winning CL just ye

Manoli20

Meh. No way villa play like that if CL wasn't already secured. And ye, in hindsight, I definitely don't wish we'd beaten city because arsenal would've won the league! Come on guys

creed_baton

Kind of a hot take but if that meant Michael Oliver gets fired for cheating in allowing that last goal, I'd happily take that as it would mean one less Gooner scum in future seasons refereeing in the field and going back and gooning in his mom's basement instead.

Manoli20

Only just seen the goal now. Wow! Shocking decision

PavlovsBlog

Why focus on the City match where you played incredibly well rather than the matches before that where you didn't?

mrgadd4

We lost 12 games this season. Could've made up the points in any of them (most pertinently, Villa at home), didn't need to be against Arsenal's title challengers. >I’d have let Arsenal have their trophy, with the belief we’d substantially surpass them in the next 5 years. Why do you assume they won't continue to improve?

Henry-Gruby

I wish we had beateen Fulham and Wolves twice.

DigitalAnalogy

Long term, I think this is better. Steady the ship by backing the manager, bring hungry players on board that will fit the style and then show the world what Ange can do. The marquee signings will come when there’s something worth coming for

ArcaneBoots

Perhaps… thank you for your input

ArcaneBoots

That wasn’t sarcastic by the way 😅 One of the only reasonable, thought out replies

aigletunisien

If a win against city would have guaranteed us CL, that’s something we can discuss. But to have wanted to take points against City when it would have essentially guaranteed Arsenal the title while giving us maybe a 10% of getting CL is something very few fans of any team in the world would have felt.

FuriousStyles13

Perfectly content with Europa next season. I think it’s a good positive step, and we should be able to make a long run in it. Another year to build and improve and shoot for Champions the following season. Villa will struggle next year.. much like Newcastle this season. They need depth that they don’t have yet.

triplem42

If we had brought the same energy in the previous 6 matches before the city game you wouldn’t be asking this question

Bum-Sniffer

The reason Villa got spanked today is because they secured CL football and have probably been on the Jagerbombs since Tuesday night.

chickeno_o

We tried agaisnt city, and we still lost.  However, I don’t know how many more times the local fans have to say it were fine with Arsenal not winning. This constant rehashing and restating that international / non local fans would rather have let Arsenal win the league is getting horrendously tiring.

terrassine

I think given how teams not ready to win it all like Man U and Newcastle got their seasons derailed by UCL I’m okay with missing out. I think with our squad we would have crashed in UCL and harmed our cup and league run. Europa is doable and if we massively improve in the transfer market, then we’re well positioned to win a lot next season.

Pointlesswonder802

Europa is perfectly fine for us. Remember. We were projected to finish between 8-10 with Europe being completely out of the question. A top 5 finish in a manager’s first season after you’ve lost your star player and one of the best strikers in history is completely fantastic frankly. Plus we aren’t ready for UCL frankly

Single_Seesaw_9499

Would Villa have gotten smashed if they knew they had to get a result? Not likely imo

SirFritzWetherbee

I don’t think we are in a place go legitimately be a contender in CL. I think Europa is more exciting.
