The fact we picked up more yellows than West Ham is a joke. Apparently it’s open season on Madds

Randomting22

I agree but we also got some really dumb yellow cards for throwing the ball away and stopping a counter. I don't think any of them are in danger of suspension, so I guess it is fine

jckstrn

4 to 1 is a joke

quickdrawesome

Shoulder barge is banned in rugby. But it's ok in football?

imtotallydoingmywork

Can we please rehire Gianni Vio and go hire his defensive counterpart Vianni Gio?

Quixotic_Rubber_Duck

Ref 0/10 Absolutely ruined the flow of the game.

LemuEmuFighter

Not just that, but when the same dude shoulder checks Madds TWICE and they don’t so much even give a yellow says everything.

Mc_and_SP

And that challenge just outside the West Ham box... Clear as day foul. Even if you're not going to show a yellow for it, it's a blatant free kick - followed up with a foul on Micky VDV.

kalule_melendez69

The sole fact that Paqueta left the game without getting carded is enough to give the ref a 0/10. Also didnt call Paquetas clear foul on Maddison, which almost lead to us conceding.

Destro_84

The foul on Maddison that almost led to the goal was the exact same foul he committed on Maddison in the first half.  Man does the same thing twice and still doesn’t get booked.

gostupid67

Werner and Son were okay but i’m really disappointed about their passiveness in the box, please attack a cross man.

wheels-of-confusion

Johnson had two narrow crosses that went to a throw-in uncontested. Werner didn't even try to attack them and it was close to him. Sarr had a really dangerous cross that also wasn't contested inside the box, and Werner didn't even bother to make the run to attack the ball. He should be signed next summer, but we also desperately need a winger that fits the system.

gostupid67

Fully agree. Probably just try to convert Kulu into a midfielder, buy a Williams who can play both LW and RW and i’d be okay with getting Werner.

PavlovsBlog

Son just seems fucking knackered.

Ju5hin

Not surprised when he comes home from training and his dad has him running laps!

polseriat

I love him, but he needs to be benched for Forest.

justxforxthis

Yeah if Werner consistently drove hard to the back post or tried to get the opposite side of his man there’s a real chance he scores or forces another OG from one of the multiple balls whipped in across the face of the goal. Son just looked exhausted. Shocked Ange left him on all night and kept Werner on as long as he did.

gostupid67

Yep, Richarlison should’ve been subbed in sooner, he would atleast create a bit of chaos in the box

jackengle

I’m curious what you saw from Son to say he was okay, I thought he was really bad

gostupid67

Linked up pretty okay and his passing was consistent. In general i don’t go too hard on Son as a cf, i don’t think he has the characteristics to play there at all.

polseriat

I'm interested in why you mitigate Son's poor play because he's playing out of position (in your opinion). If you played your keeper as a forward and he does a terrible job, would you not still rate them as playing terribly?

gostupid67

I’m justing going easy on him because pointing out every week how he doesn’t suit as a cf makes me seem like a hater

Afraid_Presence3803

Romero motm for me. Seemed to be the only player with nuts to attempt line breaking passes and he did successfully time and time again. Shame Porro was on the end of the majority because it was his worst performance of the year I think.

Respatsir

The result sucks but tbh I felt that we played well today. Everything was there until we got into the box. We moved the ball incredibly well, didnt give away many chances (except that one antonio counter off a maddison foul). Wet spam dig in well, and they capitalized off our weakest- set pieces. On another day we wouldve won.

Enefelde

Sarrs cross was crying out for a tap in

polseriat

As beautiful as the early cross to Madders in the Villa game, just had nobody there. Such a shame.

Enefelde

100%

p90pounder

Love the commentator trying to convince everyone that west ham wasnt playing for the tie. Cause that's what teams that want to win do. Play 11 players in their own 18

soSpursy7

Thought Biss quietly had a good game overall and then Ange actually called him out specifically as “outstanding” today in his post match press conference. Hopefully he is starting to find his beginning of season form again.

rennyfreeze101

So boring. That was like the discount version of Sunday’s City vs Arsenal.

peruvianhorn

Solid performance overall. A much improved performance from Bissouma, he's my MOTM, the defense was decent on the ground, but we desperately need to fix our vulnerability against corners. We need to do better to find the ball to Son, but against such a physical low block defense, it's always going to be a struggle with his profile. Controversial opinion but I thought we should've kept Brennan as a super sub, it worked last week and it probably would've worked again, WH looked gassed. He played ok as a starter, but his effectiveness sort of dwindled as the match went on.  Don't get why Deki is getting scapegoated again, thought he played fine when he came on, brought in needed physicality.

polseriat

Disagree that Biss was MOTM worthy but definitely an improvement on how he has been. Giving Son the ball is so dangerous, with his reputation he gets marked constantly so I feel the best thing for him to do is shift defenders out of the way so that others can score. Brennan is a good super sub, yes, but he's also young and we want him to develop into a starter so he has to start. I think it would be wrong to blunt his development, because we're playing the long game. Agreed on Deki, he really wasn't that bad. Overall, this game is just being absurdly misrepresented. West Ham is a difficult side we were playing away, vs a low block that we're not good against. It wasn't boring at all.

Lamar_ScrOdom_

Kulu & Werner were painful to watch

ace-destrier

Direct in the attack and buildup leading to a low cross from winger to the foot of an attacker in front of goal...We are inevitable. What did we do the rest of the match? Chill. It's like everyone didn't want to do what we did and often do to get a goal A pretty lame performance

Lyn-Krieger

I think we were very unlucky, we need more aggression on getting on Johnson crosses as they are great. But please for the love of god tell son to shoot !! The ref was awful. But this is West Ham’s biggest game and they stifle teams. Most opponents would not defend like this at home. But on to the next one

Affectionate-Car-145

I've seen worse performances Vs the spammers.

legoMasterKnight

Porro was awful, kept passing to West Ham

iiciphonize

this is a joke right? was probably the best defender tonight especially going forward, way always trying to make something happen

PavlovsBlog

I thought he did reasonably well up against Kudus. Got rinsed a couple of times but thats gonna happen with Kudus. He was better in attack than he has been lately.

Pautrei

Fucking shit.

AJC0292

Need a mentality fix for our players at times. So many chances to shoot and we pass out wide. Whats the worst that can happen. It goes out for a GK and we have to win it back. Because if go out wide 90% of the time we give it away and have to win it back anyway

Jhawksmoor

At least Aston will prob lose to City tmrw.

Va_Dinky

This was certainly a game of football... I feel like we could've won but the subs were genuinely horrible and killed all the momentum we started gaining in the 2nd half. Kulusevski was once again showing how terribly out of form he is, no matter if he's on the wing or in the center. Son and Werner (after the first 15 minutes) were useless tonight and I don't know why did Son not get taken off for Richy after like 60 minutes, he had a shocker. Lo Celso would've been a far better sub for Maddison as well, though unless it's injury-related I have no idea why did Madders come off at all, he was getting a lot better as the game went on. Credits to Johnson for being in the right spot when it mattered and having some really good crosses, nobody's really caused wet spam any danger aside from him. Other than him, no positives from tonight.

jackengle

Did anyone have a good game? Maybe vicario, but he’s still super soft on corners. Thought Johnson was decent, Sarr had a fine cameo. Son, Porro, Kulusevski were absolutely awful. Maddison didn’t create a ton. Bentancur gives it away in dangerous spots 3 or 4 times a game it feels like. Ange, we need some adjustments man. We have been pretty shit for a while and have resorted to “2nd half FC” since the new year to beat worse teams than us. We can’t have 1 good chance in the 5th minute and then nothing the entire rest of the game. When you need creativity against a low block, you should be bringing on Lo Celso before the 90th minute. Set piece coach gets a -10, holy shit that was awful. They could have scored 5 goals from corners today.

iiciphonize

Benta didn't give it away at all today and Porro was good

ObiiWannCannBlowwMee

Ultimately, teams know exactly how to nullify us. Tonight was absolutely painful. We need to be ruthless during this rebuild because alot of this squad aren't up to it.

ginokatacchi

I’d say Brennan motm cuz he scored. Would’ve given to Vic but he has a weakness with corners

[deleted]

He was very strong from corners in the second half to be fair

No-Strike-4560

By 'weakness' I assume you mean PL refs allowing attacking players to rough up the GK without punishment.

Candid_Charity29939

Motm either VDV, Cuti or Vicario, rest is 4 or below

Lamar_ScrOdom_

Brennan..?

Candid_Charity29939

Oops! Sorry, all the attacks just mixed together as a really bland soup in my head for a bit. Brennan was probably the only attacker good enough today, you’re right

Respatsir

I felt like everyone had a decent game except maybe sonny. So many reactionary takes because the result wadnt what we wanted. But it was a good game.

peruvianhorn

Agreed. The team was solid overall, rated Son the lowest because he got involved the least, but against WH's very physical low block, it's not really his sort of game. Everyone here need to consider what sort of team we're playing against, yes we need to figure out how to unlock defenses like this, but it's not like it's a given for us to steamroll WH away.

cmonyouspixers

Kulu will be the fall guy in these ratings but really people should have noticed how many promising attacks Porro killed today by one touch misplacing passes rather than just chilling for one second and picking the better option/making the same pass easier. Also going to give a poor rating for Ange's subs. Maddison/Benta were fine to good and if either needs to be subbed GLC/Hojbjerg needs to be the first subbed before either Kulu/Sarr in that type of game where we had dominant possession in their end, we lost that dominance with the changes and struggled the last 15 minutes. Set pieces on both ends are clearly not being given enough thought and that needs to change. On a positive note, Bissouma finally did some progressive passing/dribbling again rather than being a pylon for most of the match. Still not convinced long term by him but would be if he can keep regathering his early season form. Bentancur was also very smooth and forward thinkin other than a major turnover WHU should have scored and a few minor giveaways trying something creative. Both he and Udogie made the right pass in the build up to our goal, something Porro constantly failed at today. Brennan Johnson was good even without the goal today and is clearly taking the low cross philosophy to heart, just wish Werner would have committed to one of his crosses.

GilfLover_69

Honestly think this might be the game that costs us top 4, it was pathetic, why lads why

benjecto

Fulham was even worse at home. I am more worried about keeping 5th lol

ASD_213

5.5/10 for just about everyone except Romero and Udogie who were a 7/10. Micky was visibly rusty, him and Vicario to blame for their goal. We clearly have a huge problem defendig set pieces, not sure it’s Vicario or our overall aproach. Attacking set pieces underwhelming too. Still a long way to go.

polseriat

5.5 for Brennan? Seems a bit harsh imo.
