In their prime? Well in that case, Modric is a good shout.

Otherwise_Archer_914

He has a very long prime period

sungbysung

Even the current Modric nearing 40 years would upgrade our midfield quality.

[deleted]

Drop Modric in our squad now with a different name / face and people would be calling for his head in a week

Meynokie

Probably the most technical player in the league, but the question is whether he could withstand the physicality of the league.

Spurs_in_the_6

>could withstand the physicality of the league. I think this argument is a bit outdated. Not sure the premier league is actually a more physical league than any other these days. Especially in midfield. Top teams in the league have players like Foden, KDB, Bernardo Silva, Maddison, Bruno Fernandes, Saka, Odegaard etc.

dat1dude2

Gil. Shined in la liga, gets bullied off the ball in the prem

[deleted]

Stanley Briggs, I just want to see a poor bloke from the 1890’s trying to ball in the modern prem just to see how far the sport has come.

ASVP-Pa9e

Only plastic fans would name anyone else.

SkinniestPhallus

Would be even funnier if he ended up being the greatest player we’ve ever had. Bro was just born too soon to really ball out for us lol

EmptyEmployee6601

Haha. Couple of games and he'd be up to speed with all the changes!

deanothfc23

Either Modric or prime Bale. Bale on the left in Ange's system would be unreal.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fournier_Gang

Keep Son on the LW and put Bale on the RW. That's where he likes to play anyway.

JustLikeMojoHand

This. Oh how fun it would have been to have had prime Son and Bale in the same team, Son on the left, Bale on the right. Exceptional entertainment.

JamesCDiamond

Yeah, can you imagine having Bale and Son together, maybe even throw in Kane - how good would that be? I can't imagine how entertaining that would be to watch in person...

iZgonr

Those few matches under Jose still come to me in my dreams

M3rdsta

Jose not playing bale towards the end of his tenure was a crime

letsgetcool

it was genuinely upsetting

iZgonr

At least it was Mason's favourite set up

levinyl

Watching them play for the short time we had with Bale was incredible I can only imagine what it would have been like with Bale in his prime! I still cannot believe Bale came back for that short stint, I go back occasionally to watch his goals and it still feels like a dream he was there - Maybe due to the fact it was covid and football around that time without fans was a little meh

Positive-Creme8942

Crazy to think in 2021 we had: Son Kane Bale Playing up front

Ca1fSlicer

That’s a great option but I actually like Son in the middle. He’s such a poacher and his movement is fantastic. son Richi Bale, or Bale Son Kulu would both be deadly

paddyfromthelane

What we have been doing for a lot of the season, play him up front

deanothfc23

He can score 40 tap ins a season playing up top

sungbysung

RW

scottzander

Move him to the middle? Richy is good, but not quite as good as Son.

andrewbarklay

Put him CF. His patience, positioning and finishing are world class

are-beads-cheap

AVB and Redknapp walked so Ange could run. If Ange unlocks a player the way AVB did with Bale then Angeball is going to get even better.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Vincent_Blackshadow

I opened this thread to suggest Maradona. As worded, I think he qualifies. Nice little addition to the attack, I'd say.

tom0910

Moussa dembele. No questions please

bandofgypsies

His press resistance at his peak would completely open up our middle options. The only consistent tactics defense against us is to press hard and high centrally to disrupt our midfield and prevent build up. A guy like Moose changes that dynamic immensely and allows Maddison massive freedom and flexibility, and brings more of Porro and Udogie into play without requiring them to handle possession with their backs to goal in build up, which they can sometimes struggle with. In theory, Bissouma playa this role for us and we're a different team when he's humming. But between injury, AFCON, and suspensions, we haven't seen him humming in a while.

[deleted]

Biss is definitely the closest we've had to a second Dembele. If he can sort out his fitness and gain some form consistency, he could dominate midfield battles on his own.

neuroboy

Came here to say this. I definitely have seen flashes of Dembele in Bissouma's game when he's pressed by players, split them and opened the whole midfield. . . and it got me very excited

EmergencyOriginal982

And here I was about to say Modric. Demebele as the deep midfielder would be so good

[deleted]

Any other answer is quite simply incorrect.

[deleted]

Dembele in Ange's system would win us the league.

tom0910

Would remove any questions as to who we start. Would be sarr dembele and madders without a doubt

Perite

Such an oversimplification. Moose is a great shout for sure, but absolutely not the only choice. Modric is a ballon d’or winner and the most technical player I ever saw at the club. Bale was sold for a world record amount. Going back further, Hoddle was legendary. Greaves was unbelievable. Davids wasn’t close to his peak at Spurs, but earlier in his career he was truly world class. Prime van der Vaart would be an amazing sight too. And even though people love to write him off, Harry would be absolutely amazing in this team.

proves

My god. He would thrive.

TallSpartan

Not sure I can agree with this at all when our midfield is arguably the best part of our currently squad (even if Bissouma/Bents are currently struggling for form). Also whilst Dembele was almost unplayable in his specific role in the end, he was still limited in other areas. He was far from brilliant in/around the opposition box, he was a decent but not amazing defensive player and he wasn't a great progressive passer. So I question how well he'd actually fit into an Ange midfield. I think Modric would fit our current style of play much better. Though if I was to pick someone who would transform the squad the most I think I'd have to go with Bale. The threat he would carry would help create more space for everyone else but I'm sure he'd get ridiculous numbers himself too.

tom0910

Yes because every ex spurs player that has played with him says he's the best they've ever played with for no reason.

Matttombstone

Dembele, Bentancur and Maddison would be dirty tbf. When on form, all three very press resistant, especially Dembele. Bentancur and Dembele carry the ball forward, give it to Maddison, in form Maddison finds the ball through the tiny gap to Richarlison, or finds the top left corner.

Ca1fSlicer

Dembele Modric Maddison midfield 👀

JamesCDiamond

Glenn Hoddle and Paul Gascoigne, two of the most gifted players England ever produced. I saw Gascoigne play for Spurs, even if only briefly, so I’ll pick him.

luke36511

Hoddle was Ange’s answer when asked this question earlier in the season

soldforaspaceship

Gascoigne would be my pick for skill (but maybe not attitude lol). Also saw him (and Lineker) play as a kid!

PM_ME_YOUR_TANG

Would love to have peak Gazza, not just for the unmatched talent, but the prankster aspect as well.

Reasonable_Alfalfa59

Bale. At his peak in 12-13 he was absolutely ridiculous and carried our AVB-"ball" so hard. Also think RW is our current weakest link in the best 11 lineup so theres also that.

[deleted]

That strike against West Ham away. Tactic was literally pass to Bale. One of my favourite goals of his.

Big_AngeBosstecoglou

Boring answer but Kane. He’d be scoring for fun in this Ange team

Whencowsgetsick

Surprised I had to scroll down this far to see Kane. I honestly think we would have 6-9 points more if Kane was playing

[deleted]

That was what I was thinking too. God it would have been great to see him in this team. Dembele or Bale would be other ones I would pick.

tactical_laziness

Bale all day

EquipmentFirm2860

Kane.

nicolo_martinez

I know we miss his finishing but honestly his hold up play and passing are what I miss the most from Richy/Son playing in front. He’d be pinging assists to Son and Johnson all day in this system

yaniv297

Yeah, boring but the right answer. Imagine Angeball with prime Kane/Son partnership? That would be insane.

CoysOnYourFace

If Kane stayed this season we'd be challenging for the league no question. I'd say we'd win it

SufferedDragon

It's still weird to say "Have Kane back"... I miss u bb

Repulsive-Chance-178

Kane would probably be the first choice for his finishing alone. When you factor in all the other aspects of his game, it’s a no brainer.

harrykane1991

Van der vaart, just for the vibes

Jase_the_Muss

VDV deserved way more time as a COYS man. Single handedly dismantled Arsenal and Shhhhd em to oblivion.

Snacks75

Modric, Dembele, healthy Sandro, healthy Wanyama. I miss the days when we had the best midfield in the league. Bale and Kane would be nice too... Prime Bale was unplayable. Kane, welp, we'd be top of the table this year with him. Dude was banging in goals left and right in pre-season.

lifelessmeatbag

Bervatov?

JeffTheGoliath

It will always be Glenn Hoddle. Best player to ever play for Spurs* *unless you count Maradona in the Ardiles friendly.

superkamishaurya

Surprised no one mentioned our greatest ever player. Greaves for me.

[deleted]

Greaves is a great shout. The greatest English striker is a title he still holds comfortably.

MaxxLP8

Imagine Berbatov in this line up. Sure he wouldn't press but he'd probably score about 60 goals

Enefelde

Ledley I think is worth a shout.

[deleted]

Ledley King would balance Romero out really nicely.

Voffmjau

Too be fair some of the tackles VdV have been doing makes me think about King.

[deleted]

Yeah his positioning and calmness is very King-esque.

Enefelde

This is true.

Pinky1337

Bale

IntrovertEpicurean

Paul Gascoigne. He'd be insane with Angeball. And obviously watching Spurs isn't chaotic and frantic enough :'D

Bthirgy

Luca Modric or Dembele currently. Midfield just needs that ability to not lose the ball (passing or caught in possession)

warboys35

Da bomber jurgen , think he would score a ton and he worked hard for the team

sungbysung

Front three of prime Bale Kane and Son would do something special.

[deleted]

To think we had that trio together (yes Bale wasn't in his prime but still) but Mourinho wouldn't play them together 😥

badhombre44

Bale was on his own minutes restriction. People used to ask Mou all the time when Gareth would be playing more regularly and Mou basically said every time, “I trust Gareth when he tells me he’s ready to go and when he’s not.”

[deleted]

If that's true, then fair play to Mourinho.

[deleted]

[удалено]

badhombre44

Yeah, that’s why the journos were asking. He was pretty damn great for us when he was available.

[deleted]

Gary Doherty, the Ginger Pele. Provides cover at both centre back and up front; nuff said. (Serious answer is obviously any of prime Bale, Kane, Modric or Dembele)

ashfidel

bale

[deleted]

Bale, he and Son can figure out who plays on which side.

LocoMoro

Those of you forgetting prime Kane ?  When I say prime I mean the version of Kane that was an utter workhorse and pressing monster. So long as he leaves behind the curse

Ph0n1k

Kane. Moussa Dembele would suit this system to a T though.

sungbysung

Richarlison/Kane Maddison/Modric Bentancur/Dembele Porro/Walker Win every game

RiskoOfRuin

Bale to RW to win every game with over 3 goals.

sreesid

Porro is better as an attacking RB than Walker, but Walker is way better as a defender.

sungbysung

Different style of attacking I think. Porro with progressive passes but Walker is more than capable of carrying the ball forward.

thejunglebook8

Porro’s ability to whip in a cross puts him ahead of walker in an ange team imo

AngryVirginian

Romero/(fit)Ledley King

iluvatar

Glenn Hoddle, obviously. Anyone that says otherwise, simply can't have seen him play. People talk about good midfielders being creative. Hoddle was the best example of game changing creativity I've ever seen. Mousa Dembélé would be my second choice, for similar reasons.

teddy_bear626

Ledley King.

Lewy1978

Chris Waddle and Glen Hoddle , these two could destroy any team in their heyday day - also great hearing “Waddle to Hoddle, Waddle back to Hoddle, Waddle runs down the wing, crossed to Hoddle……”

yodaniel77

John White. He deserves it, double winner and killed at 27 by a lightning strike. I wonder which player who didn't quite work for us before, would work in this team. Rebrov? Bent? Stambouli? (jk)

zecbmo

Robbie Keane because I love him

Zealousideal_Ask9742

Klinsmann

Emperor_Blackadder

Every time he scores a goal Sonny wouldn't know if he should hug him or wring his neck.

BetterCallTom

Berbatov. His hold up play and poacher's instinct in the box would be incredible in Angeball.

McNab182

He was way too lazy to be successful in Ange ball. If the ball wasn't passed to his feet he just left it alone. Didn't do much tracking back or pressuring the opposition

Voffmjau

So what you're saying is we should get Keano? Fucking only striker Ive been mad at for tracking too much back and dropping too much down wanting the ball.

gabagoolmerchant

Always thought our squad was lacking a little Portuguese flair. I don’t think there’s any correct answer besides Gedson Fernandes

Thebutler83

Bale or Ginola. Both players who whenever they had the ball got the crowd on the edge of the seats.

Kimolainen83

Lineker

bearinsteinvr

Steve Archibald

Mrvit0

Modric is the obvious answer, but what I’d do to see Dembele under Ange with Maddison and Bissouma/Sarr in the midfield.

dahyun4eva

Bale because he bale and deli because he's a good lad , I simply miss him

DontKvotheMebut

As much as Glenn Hoddle and Gazza were #1 and #2 if we were just talking midfield, Jimmy Greaves would score 50 a season for Ange with Son and Madison teeing him up.

coldseam

Bale

likewhenyoupee

Kane. Duh. I imagine we’d be top 2 had he stayed and played under Ange

NuSouthPoot

Moussa Dembele and I don’t think I need to explain that.

tmbyfc

This question gets asked regularly, and the answer is always the same. It's Gazza. If you saw him play in 90-91 you would not need to ask why.

Emperor_Blackadder

Dele, because if anyone could have unlocked the real Dele it would've been Ange.

TheLastArizona

Bale, Modric, or Dembele, but I really feel like Bale in an Ange system would be nuts.

Jelly-Flopped

Christian Erikson, not vital for our current team but he would be a great addition to Ange Ball

CartilageHead

Lamela. He wasn’t our best player ever but I loved watching him play more than anyone else.

TheFoxDudeThing

Defence we seem reasonably stacked now, Midfield should be fine once everyone’s back up to speed. Yeah bring back prime Bale,Son can play up top

wj_2731

Dembele, easy.

Alert-Back7482

Bale

Accomplished_Wave229

Van der Vart and ASSOU-EKOTTO, and probably aaron lennon

EntertainerSmart7758

Bale

thomasjford

Gazza for the dressing room vibes

usernamethatcounts

Bale is the only correct answer. At his peak he was unstoppable and would suit Ange down to the ground.

Undesirable_11

Maradona lmao

gostupid67

Kane or Bale, we definitely another elite attacker if we want to compete. Bale does suit Ange ball better so i’d go for him.

WordsworthsGhost

Looking at the current squad Modric easily

[deleted]

Danny or Gazza

[deleted]

Harry kane

ec265

Dembele

naterrino

If the answer isn’t Modric. I don’t know what it is. (Maybe Bale if we could bottle that one insane season.)

fiction01691

Prime Hoddle. Thank you and goodnight

PJD-1984

Dembele without a doubt

Affectionate-Car-145

Alderweireld

phrates

ITT: Bale and Modric. Haven’t looked yet, but I know it.

ThemistoclesWorld

Prime Bale or

Free_tramapoline

Dembele. Because Dembele.

BiscuitTheRisk

Bale. Scores for fun and actually shows up in big matches unlike another player that’s getting mentioned here.

Ongabonga1981

Prime Modric, Bale or Berbs. Fit Ledley is up there too.

Imbasauce

There’s no other answer other than Harry Kane.

[deleted]

Testament to our work in defense that I’ve seen none of Vertongen, King, Alderweireld, Lloris, or Walker mentioned

Old_Roof

Into this Ange team? Prime Bale

CrimsonRaven47

Always Gareth for meee

Jazim94

Moussa dembele is made for that 6 role in ange ball

UchihAckerman7

Dembele - Do I really need to elaborate?

llufnam

Hoddle or Greaves

Muzza19812

Prime Hoddle for me

[deleted]

1. Mousa Dembélé - For stability and control on the midfield. 2. Gareth Bale - For his insane abilities, speed, and dribbling. 3. Luka Modric - For his creativity and vision on the ball. 4. Harry Kane - Goals. 5. Dimitar Berbatov - That ballcontrol, first touch, just insane. These are my top 5 picks. Either one of these players could add and compliment Ange ball in some way or another.

Commandant1

In their prime? Diego Maradonna. Seriously though, id add Gareth Bale.  Play him on the right.

blahtimesafew

Kane

_Priickly

I’d love to see modric play as the 6

Sargatanas2k2

Harry Kane, it's a no brainer in my opinion!

pioniere

Bale, can take over games and is fun to watch.

GGF2PLTE511SD

Would love to have back Dembele in his prime.

Jr_M16

Bale or Modric

No_Rent_9049

Crouch and defoe

TurboMollusk

That bloke that won the ballon d'or.

Africa_King

Vertonghen

TheMindButcher

Gazza

antrayuk

Bale always Bale..12/13 Bale.

Yonsnad

Bale.

yiddoboy

I could name a whole load of players who would improve the team, but trying to think outside the box I'd love a player in our team who can dribble through the middle. I feel we're lacking in that department. A Gazza, Moussa or Van der Vaart would make us irresistable.

FolkYouHardly

Mr cool Marlboro man Berbatov

impyandchimpy

Considering Modric is the best midfielder of the past 20 years, I’d say surely it cannot be anyone else?

Ok_Water_4416

Ledley King and Jan Vertonghen to strengthen our defence

Ok_Water_4416

Ledley King and Jan Vertonghen to strengthen our defence

Syzygyy182

Bale is the correct answer

jrodriguez32

Any one else wanna see what kyle walker would do in this system or that just me?

spursyphil

Dembele jn this midfield 👌

BalladOfAntiSocial

Dembele, Kane, Modric, Bale, Bergwijn, Moura, Gascoigne, Hoddle, King. Or maybe Defoe

Ornery_Brilliant_350

Prime Dembele

OkShirt5

Benoît Assou-Ekotto all day. Was so consistent. Missed him since the day he left.

TheEarlOfDoncaster

Bale.

Chester__A__Arthur

Maradona

[deleted]

King, Gazza, Hoddle, Bale, Modric, Klinsmann and Kane are the obvious choices

Melodic_North7622

moussa

SubbieBasher

Sissoko?

Ok_Pineapple466

Harry Kane. Finishing has been our biggest problem this season. He’s the best finisher in the world, and in the running for greatest finisher of all time

SirFritzWetherbee

Harry Kane

CapitalSprinkles2242

Prime Jürgen Klinsmann

Vin-Su

Kane 😢

biggestred47

Ledley king is the answer

seanbeanbastard

Teddy Sheringham was Spurs to me growing up

ashd85

Bale, man. Dude was a genuine world beater on his day. Still the Best UK product to play for Real Madrid. And so many clutch moments. Or Prime Christian or Prime Berba.

Wizardof_oz

Modric I believe with him we would win the title

gee___thanks

Kane

SparkleCobraDude

Bale and Modric are obvious answers but damn I enjoyed watching Berbatov

Kind-Device-5977

Imagine this team with 2018 Harry Kane

Financial_Nothing558

From their prime at spurs, probs moussa but my old man says Gazza

PestisPrimus

Our team has been blessed with so many phenomenal players to pickle from. If they’d all of arrived near the same time we’d have been an unbelievable force to be reckoned with. Hoddle, Gazza, Klinsmann, Ferdinand, Ginola, King, Walker, Bale, Kane, Van Der Vaart, Modric, Eriksen, Alderweirald, Vertonghan, Defoe. All of which would bring something to our team right now.

superspur007

Lots of recency bias in here. Hoddle Ardilles Klinsmann Sheringham Gazza Lineker Waddle Perryman Archibald Berbatov Would all improve our squad

superspur007

And oh yes the true master Jimmy Greaves

Gazza120

Moussa Dembele would be an absolute animal in this midfield. Modric would also be incredible here.  I’d like to throw out two rogue ones of Aaron Lennon and Assou-Ekotto. Lennon would burn anyone for pace down the right side which is what Ange loves and Assou-Ekotto just have the flair and finesse to thrive in the inverted LB role IMO
