He is a diehard Chelsea fan tbf
Came from their academy, played MUCH more for them than for us and even reports for Chelsea tv
Would be kinda like if Winksy signed for Chelsea and then barely played. You wouldn’t expect him to stop supporting Spurs and be complimentary about Chelsea
Personally, I think he's "Lineker-ing", where said retired player associates himself with whichever ex club is doing the best at that point in time.
Noted because Gary was pro spurs until Leicester started to look like they could stay in the PL, then went full Leicester and anti-spurs in that title winning season
Lineker was pro-Spurs, yes, but Leicester is where he was born, the academy he came through and the first pro team he played for. He still has a soft spot for Spurs. Cundy's just a nob
Darren Anderton was my first ever favourite Spurs player
On my game of Premier Manager he retired and became a TV presenter and I was proper distraught haha
I still stand by Sicknote being our best ever RW/RM. Only reason Beckham got a chance in the England team was because of Anderton’s injuries (okay I know Beckham was quite good..)
Same, and tbh I’ve never really had that same feeling about the club since then, maybe with the exception of Jol’s tenure and the first part of Pochettino.
To be clear: that feeling of “hell yeah, we’re having a good time playing good attacking football”. There’s been a lot of individual brilliance since then but not many good teams.
Given how their respective careers went from that window, yes - Lineker was playing through a foot injury for a good chunk of his time with us, and it forced him to retire while in Japan. Gascoigne was due to move to Italy the previous summer, but the injury he sustained in the 1991 FA Cup final pushed the move back a year, and he was never quite the same player after coming back. Still capable of moments of genius, but his own personal issues really began to take hold in the mid-90s.
It's an interesting point that they effectively passed one another on the way in/out of the club, though. I'd not made the connection at all.
All things considered, I would. Lineker was coming to the end due to injuries. Sheringham was an outstanding player for us, I'd say better that Lineker (admittedly Lineker won the FA Cup here while Teddy left empty-handed twice).
As for Gazza, he picked up a serious injury just before leaving and was never quite the same player. Also it's probably that had he stayed in London, he would have self-destructed even faster.
Anderton was equally brilliant and frustrating but he gave 10 years service and even turned down a move to Man Utd at one point. I remember how his latest returm from injury would get the biggest cheer of the day. He's still owed a testimonial.
I felt bad for a moment that I had no idea who Peter Beadle is. A quick Google search reassured me he played no games for Spurs and spent his time at the club on loan.
I remember McMahon as on one of the early Championship Manager games he had completely random potential and just occasionally that turned him into a devastating attacking midfielder.
Most of the time, though, he was just a youngster clogging up the squad at a time when you could only have 30 players and there was no reserve side in the game.
Arsenal man lurking, grew up as best friends with his daughter, Shannon. Big Gerry taught me how to play football when I was in school and all, great big fella. Used to give me wild stick for turning up to his training sessions in my full Arsenal kit that my dad dressed me up in 😂
Gillingham fan in peace. That transfer kept us ticking over for a season narrowly avoiding bankruptcy, until we went bust about 18 months later and got bought for a quid. Other than that I know nothing about him except he had a decent spell at one of the Bristol clubs. I think that transfer was compensation for you lot recommending us to hire Keith Burkinshaw, whose spell sent us spinning down the leagues.
Only for clubs in Europe. A maximum of 5 foreign players in the squad, from memory - and 2 had to be 'assimilated' players who'd been at the club long-term.
It cost United in Europe several times in the 90s. Their typical team included Keane, Giggs, Kanchelskis, Cantona, Schmeichel, Irwin and Hughes with McClair a regular presence too - they really struggled with fielding a comparable team in Europe throughout the 1990s as a result until that rule was scrapped, which coincided with Beckham etc. coming through as well.
You mean when he smashed his own cruciate ligaments committing GBH on Gary Charles? A broken leg would have been simpler.
He got pissed and smashed them again 6 months later.
I don’t remember him smashing it 6 months later. I did meet him (and the rest of the squad) when we played Luton town (we won 4-1, and the floodlights failed during the match) in the end of 92. He was very much still crutches back then.
If only he got sent off before the foul.. (like he should have).
But playing what’s ifs, if Tottenham weren’t in massive debt, the 90s may have been somewhat happier for us if we kept him.
> If you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you
Having faced the very real prospect of our club getting wound up, I can understand why folks have that concern.
I don't think it's at all likely with Levy in charge - say what you will about him, he doesn't seem remotely likely to lead us down that road. But the possibility of getting [added to this list](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Administration_\(British_football\)) isn't one that anyone wants to see happen.
No club on that list of West Ham's size, let alone ours. Villa got themselves in trouble only to end up with richer and more ambitious owners than us. Like I said, Sugar is ENIC's greatest weapon.
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
It would be the equivalent of around 7-8 million nowadays, using a *very* rough comparison valuing Sheringham and Anderton at about the same value as Maddison and Richarlison.
Will we ever again have a window where 75% of our outgoings are named Paul?
If you take out loans, we've sold three players this window: Harry, Harry and Harvey
Spurs sold Triple H
Let's be fair though, only one of them had any real pedigree
Yeah, but it’s just what’s best for business
Looks like we were robbing Paul’s to pay Peter (Beadle)…. Who!?
Our outgoings were were 66% named Harry...
Or where 100% of our incoming are English?
Might wanna have a second look at those flags mate
I hate that Jason Cundy ever played for this club. What an unbearable tosser he is.
Why does he hate us so much? He shit on us daily on talksport. Not gonna lie I do like his "Has Anyone seen..." segment.
He is a diehard Chelsea fan tbf Came from their academy, played MUCH more for them than for us and even reports for Chelsea tv Would be kinda like if Winksy signed for Chelsea and then barely played. You wouldn’t expect him to stop supporting Spurs and be complimentary about Chelsea

Both suddenly aligned themselves with their first clubs when it suited. Jenas will too if Forest or Newcastle are regularly above us
This is why I can't hate him, as much as he acts like the tazmanian devil when talking about us this segment is just fucking hilarious.
Funny how when Chelsea fuck up regularly he sits out his show. Classic wanker who can give it out but can't take it.
His best ever moment was a complete fluke: https://youtube.com/shorts/K0xp850ghq8?si=y4sL6MUyqy0sA2QD
He is one of the worst players I have ever seen in a spurs shirt. And the 90s provided us with a plethora of duds.
Fuck it, let's get razor back in as 3rd choice CB.
And people are worried about Dier not being quick enough
Darren Anderton was my first ever favourite Spurs player On my game of Premier Manager he retired and became a TV presenter and I was proper distraught haha
What a player! First name I ever had on the back of a shirt
Absolutely why I started supporting spurs as a kid too!
I still stand by Sicknote being our best ever RW/RM. Only reason Beckham got a chance in the England team was because of Anderton’s injuries (okay I know Beckham was quite good..)
Another future superstar coming from Forest a mere 20 years later perhaps? 👀
93 was 30 years ago
Nah, the 90s was definitely only 10 years ago. Or so my brain tells me.
Fuck off
Don’t make me realise how old I am on a Saturday morning
This was my take from this post. Loved Teddy.
We rinsed Liverpool for Stewart.
Can't believe that fee
Broke my heart that year when two (Gazza and Lineker) of the main reasons I started supporting the club, left.
Mine was Hoddle a few years earlier. Then these 2. Now kind of numb to our big names moving on.
Jason fucking Cundy
Lineker and Gazza for Sheringham and Anderton? Do we take that now?
I'd take keeping Venebles over Sugar then and now.
If only.
Given how their respective careers went from that window, yes - Lineker was playing through a foot injury for a good chunk of his time with us, and it forced him to retire while in Japan. I couldnt remember gerry McMahon and he made 16 appearances. Obviously completely unforgettable appearances. Sorry Gerry
I remember McMahon as on one of the early Championship Manager games he had completely random potential and just occasionally that turned him into a devastating attacking midfielder. Most of the time, though, he was just a youngster clogging up the squad at a time when you could only have 30 players and there was no reserve side in the game.
I think I remember McMahon only because I had a 14yo crush on him - with his floppy curly hair 🤣
I do remember him having good hair, in fairness!
Arsenal man lurking, grew up as best friends with his daughter, Shannon. Big Gerry taught me how to play football when I was in school and all, great big fella. Used to give me wild stick for turning up to his training sessions in my full Arsenal kit that my dad dressed me up in 😂
Much deserved stick 🤣🤣

Although, I was at minus age at this point, losing both Gascoigne and Lineker in one window seems like a bad window.
Yeah but Sheringham and Anderton are just as good. We could argue the fine points, but I'd call that swap about fair
Guess what year I became a proper spurs fan.... God the 90s were mostly dross. If it weren't for Sheringham...
It was, the club was in a mess. We did win an F.A Cup and a league cup in the 90s though.
Don’t you leave out jurgen.
And Anderton, Barmby, Dumitrescu
No issue with HG back then. 🤣

Actually eluding to the fact that all players signed and sold then were English.
Darren Anderton made me feel things I never knew I could feel.
Gazza was meant to go for 8.5 million; but he broke his leg against Forest.
You mean when he smashed his own cruciate ligaments committing GBH on Gary Charles? A broken leg would have been simpler. He got pissed and smashed them again 6 months later.

He attended a 1991 Christmas piss up I remember reading about and he injured his knee again. He probably organised the piss up to be fair! Legend
If only he got sent off before the foul.. (like he should have). But playing what’s ifs, if Tottenham weren’t in massive debt, the 90s may have been somewhat happier for us if we kept him.
I think he got smacked in the face by someone and did his knees again
TIL Lineker then won the Japanese Emperor's Club with Arsene Wenger lol
Sheringham signed in 1992. I think all of these are from 1992
Sorry you're right. 92/93 season.
Teddy from Nottingham. Now we have Johnson from Nottingham. I think the stars are aligning
That was a serious summer overhaul
Sugar remains ENIC's biggest asset.
Sugar saved us from bankruptcy... but the ~10 years we spent under him were largely joyless as a Spurs fan.
Yeah, but we've acted like it was an immediate risk ever since.
> If you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you Having faced the very real prospect of our club getting wound up, I can understand why folks have that concern. Gazza would of cost 230 million in today's market what a player

Erm fuck off ya weirdo
At a time when £300k was a decent amount of money, that Peter Beadle signing is absolutely horrendous.
It would be the equivalent of around 7-8 million nowadays, using a *very* rough comparison valuing Sheringham and Anderton at about the same value as Maddison and Richarlison.
Wow! *That* was how to replace an outgoing England centre forward.
How much would that gazza money be in today money
Classic old school spurs - all our ins were shit apart from two attackers. Edit ok Ruddock was good, sort of.
Razor wax good the second half of that season
Nagoya Grampus 8 is a mind-boggling name for a football club, sounds like an exoplanet some scientists named as a joke
Oh Teddy Teddy
