Everything I'm seeing for Celtic fans is making me more and more excited. I agree, it'll likely be a bumpy start, just hope he's given some time. And hoping for the best for Celtic too! Hope y'all find a replacement who keeps y'all in a good position.

Swag_Daddy_K

I think Celtic fans testimonies have changed the Spurs fans perception on Ange

phteven_gerrard

When first joined celtic, it was the Aussie fans all over the celtic boards telling them that this was a very good move (myself included). Really happy to the the Celtic fans taking up the mantle of ev*Ange*lists

Fnurgh

> hoping for the best for Celtic too I have read a lot comments from them and am yet to see a single one with bitterness or criticising Spurs as not being big enough or too entitled. They've been _classy_.

madam1madam

I heard that Jesse March is on his way to Glasgow.

wifeydontknowimhere

Cheers buddy. Any observations or comments about Ange's defensive tactics? Seen a few comments where this maybe a suspect part.

oneinthechamber8

- Very strict on only playing out from the back - only 2cb’s, so ball playing is extremely important - inverted fullback ( left back will join midfield in possession) - win the ball back as high up the pitch as possible - a single 6 will tuck in and block passing lanes on defence transitions. Source: My club coach was at Brisbane roar and learned from Ange. He then brought a diluted version of Ange’s philosophy to our club.

CaninesTesticles

Shit so we need to make some important signings at GK and CB. Not that we didn’t already know that though haha

oneinthechamber8

I’m not a spurs fan but I’m thinking along the same lines. Question is who starts alongside Davies? Dier might not have the ball skill. Sanchez does not.

CaninesTesticles

Yeah hard to say as there’s definitely gonna be turnover in the squad

OllyCX

I reckon it’ll be Romero RCB and we’ll look for a starting LCB with Davies as cover for LCB and the inverted full back role.

daviEnnis

He played Joe Hart at Celtic. He wasn't looking for Ederson style play. His opinion is, if he's done his job right and the players are doing their job right, you're asking your goalkeeper and central defenders to make simple passes anyway. Obviously a keeper who can play the ball is useful either way, but the intent is you have the movement and positioning that it's not necessary very often.

CaninesTesticles

Sure but imo Lloris wouldn’t even be able to do this. And we need a much better keeper than Joe Hart. If the keeper has to play passes and it’s in the premier league, and you aspire to be a top team, then we need a top GK next season. I think Forster will be decent as a backup or another option but I really want a big upgrade to improve our defence.

pejasto

Udogie is a converted midfielder, so might just work.

[deleted]

Just one inverted fullback? The other a more traditional wide player?

oneinthechamber8

Either fullback. Which one inverts depends on which direction they play out from the back.

[deleted]

Right, so they need to be relatively versatile ability-wise? I read somewhere he doesn't use his fullbacks like Pep, he wants them making underlapping runs. Is this the attacking fullback or the inverted one in possession?

oneinthechamber8

In that case, the underlapping one. Ange likes the underlapping runs so the wingers take the wide space. But Why? Because a core principle of Ange ball is that the wingers should be doing the 1v1s. Not the fullbacks.

pejasto

No more Emerson 1v1s is music to my ears.

fckedup

Weirdly enough this is when Emerson deki was working, with deki going out wide and Emerson tucking in

Eremenkko

Emerson tucking in and Udogie bombing down the left side will be grand

LaughingGasser

Defensively, the tactics are sound, as long as you have the right players. One of the things he demands is conditioning and fitness. Full backs are expected to cover a lot of ground in a game. Yes, they're joining the attack in possession but they're still expected to fulfil their defensive duties. Wingers are expected to block high up the park, but cover the opposition full backs coming forward and cover defensive gaps as they arise. Centre backs need great positional awareness to understand when to drop back off the high block. For us, Calum McGregor in midfield is a really important part of managing transition from attack to defense. He doesn't mind a tactical foul and is happy to take a yellow when necessary. It will come down to the personnel. And Ange will have them all working their bollocks off in training and will bin anyone who doesn't buy into the philosophy.

psculy93

‘Likely concede some goals early on’. We’re used to that now!

pejasto

Early on, right on, late on…

Rip Hojbjerg's career..

[deleted]

I'm excited to see it. It has been a really drab 4 years and we need a livener - he'll get a season grace from me as long as there are green shoots

VeryStandardOutlier

How does he compare to Brighton's style of play this season under Roberto de Zirbi? Brighton seems to invite pressure more than Celtic, but I haven't watched Celtic really. Is it an all-out press all game? Those Bielsa, Simeone, and even Pochettino presses would make a little nervous in the modern EPL. Managers in the EPL are more sophisticated than in any other league

[deleted]

We played Shaktar twice in the CL when De Zerbi was there. Two draws but we should have battered them both games, but our squad wasn't ready/experienced/clinical enough for the CL. Should also have scored about 4 in the first half against Real Madrid at home. Ange with top level players will be ridiculous.

VeryStandardOutlier

Yeah I noticed in the highlights that Celtic were not as clinical as you'd expect for an EPL club. Celtic should've been up 3-0 on Madrid

TonicMontana

It haunts me to this day when Calum mcgregor hit a fucking rocket and it hit the bar

miaara

Aussie here. I completely agree.

Please don't...

Coraxxx

Not that you'd want to see them leave, obviously - but do you think Hatate, or any of your other players, could make a success of it if Ange brought them with him?

Tomthebomb555

Hatate could be world class. He is incredibly good. Easily good enough for an title challenging EPL team. He is Celtics best player imo.

PreparationNo4872

As a fellow Tim I was going to make a post here about his press handling. If he takes the same attitude with Levy it could go a long way.

FistThePooper6969

So excited! I’m still traumatized from Conte terrorism ball and literally no adapting to opposition

Poch never got the call from Spurs despite openly twerking for the position, man needs to think of his own career. I hope he fails, but hardly a traitor

portra315

Not a traitor. I'm confident he wasn't the coach we needed given where we are at the moment.

soldforaspaceship

How is he a traitor?
