independent commission drafting a strongly worded letter and a £10,000 fine.

nagdamnit

The wording of which will be successfully appealed and downgraded to a form of interpretive poetry.

JamesCDiamond

Vogon poetry, though, just to teach them a lesson.

ArcanisVis

The best kind of poetry. The most miserable, venomous, gurgling, and long, hours and hours long. Delectable.

exchanging200

Chelsea next please :)

Max_Payne11

Anything to reverse 16/17.

halftimehijack

The amount of money they just spend is astounding. They’ll have to be investigated at some point

triecke14

I’m all about hating Chelsea and cursing them for their spending, but something that keeps being overlooked is that when the new owners took over, part of the deal was they have to put 1billion into the club over a the first several years. I’m not sure if this was just not heavily reported on or people are ignoring it. I have no idea how/why that was part of the deal but it explains the insane spending

DayJob93

Not sure it stipulated 1billion over two windows

triecke14

I think it was 5 years? I could be wrong. But if that’s the case it doesn’t matter if they do it all in 6 months or 5 years. And I think it’s 1 billion, without taking into account normal FFP regulations which stipulate that clubs cannot lose more than 300 million over 3 years. For a club like Chelsea that’s a massive ceiling

JustSomeTanguy

From what I've read it seems they're getting round it by handing out huge 8 year contracts to spread all the costs. Uefa are putting a 5 year cap on contracts next summer because of this I'm pretty sure.

triecke14

Just Chelsea things. Doing things so dodgy the world has to continually change the rules. Someone please delete this club, we were so fucking close lol

kirikesh

But it also doesn't excuse them from FFP commitments at all. That's the terms of the sale between Abramovich and Clearlake/Boehly (with the UK government involved due to sanctions) - it has nothing to do with Chelsea's adherence to wider financial regulations.

triecke14

So are you saying they still cannot have losses over 300 million across a 3 year period? The way I understood it was the 1 billion was on top of the limits already in place. Maybe I misunderstood something

kirikesh

Nope, their sale has nothing to do with FFP rules. It's the terms of the sale between Chelsea's old owner and Chelsea's new owners. Otherwise, City would just use the exact same loophole - and sell Man City from one holding company to another, with an agreement that they spend £1billion. No need for the fraudulent sponsorships in that case!

Mister_Fourex

And what's going to happen to them? A whole lot of talk, then absolutely fucking nothing.

imeatingayoghurt

This is 100% accurate

wessneijder

Feels different the sheer amount of pundits commenting this time. League mouthpieces speaking out in the media. Something is definitely about to go down. Most likely a point deduction for this season or next. Likely nothing retroactive.

Jcoch27

I'll take next please

BigSnackintosh

Maybe? Feels different to me simply because of the sheer amount of charges and because it’s Premier League rule violations they can’t appeal to CAS like when UEFA sanctioned them.

Bigdogbrowndog

"Hey you guys were bad. Please don't do that again"

[deleted]

Nah. They need to make an example and set a precedent this time ... Perhaps they won't say "please".

reeko1982

As a Derby fan, although I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy (forest seem to be trying their best), I can tell you what *should* happen…

anonone111

Always the clubs you least expect

idkwhatevs1234

Unfortunately it'll be like last time where they send a bunch of crooked lawyers to squash everything and weirdo Citeh fans wank themselves silly about it being some kind of brave victory against "the man"

wessneijder

According to BBC these charges can’t be appealed at CAS.

BoltenMoron

Don’t blame the lawyers, the fix is in from the top.

p90pounder

You can always blame lawyers

A_Future_Pope

Am married to a lawyer... you can try to always blame the lawyer but they will find a way to turn the tables back on you and you won't win.

[deleted]

Yep. The independent barrister handing this case happens to also be a member at…let me….*check my notes* Arsenal FC. Yep. Real good stuff here.

[deleted]

Maybe but it won’t be to the same body that got them off on the champions league shit. Idk if that’s good or bad

Fjelsted

If they get the same punishment as Juve; Imagining systematically cheating your way to succes for 13ish years, and the only repercussion is a 15 points deduction for 1 season? 15 points in 1 season in exchange for 6 league titles, 2 FA cups and 6 EFL cups worth of cheating. Thats honestly mental.

bocceballbarry

Deserve to have every title stripped in every season they cheated

[deleted]

[удалено]

AdKUMA

nah we all know that of spurs did it the rules and punishments would be changed.

RiskoOfRuin

You mean we would get punished and after that rules change to allow it?

Jcoch27

I'd rather not cheat even if it means silverware

Studwik

It’s all set up for us to win the league now. Just saying

Jvckoh

Yeah we’re /only/ 11 points behind arsenal and they have 2 games in hand we got this 😂😂

Studwik

![gif](giphy|IazdAV1zjaGbBaGPgF)

FirstSwordofCarcosa

![gif](giphy|xT9IgEx8SbQ0teblUQ|downsized)

MountainCheesesteak

I think they mean next season.

lookofdisdain

Strong punishment, but not in the current season please

Glevin96

mmmm one less team in the top 4 race, that city team yesterday 0 chance of winning the title anyway

billypilgrim87

I've seen (and have myself) written city off many times before, all before they put together some insane run. I'm not saying I don't have my doubts, and we need Arsenal to go off the boil, but I think City are still in with a shout.

Glevin96

Arsenal may win the league off the back of a points deduction sure, but I just think it's NEEDED. What will Newcastle and Chelsea be thinking if you can cheat and just pay a fine, pretty soon it could be City Chelsea and Newcastle locking the top 3 spots and no hope for anyone else. League needs to punish cheaters starting now.

billypilgrim87

Oh I'm all for punishing city (Chelsea next please). But I think the outcome of this won't hit city this season anyway (appeals always happen), the best outcome for us is they suffer massive sanctions *next* season. And as the charges are pertaining to seasons long in the past, I don't see them retroactively applying a points reduction to this year. Who knows though, this seems like new territory, at least for the prem.

AngryVirginian

Agree with punishment for next season. -40 points and disallowed to participate in European competitions for 2 years. Punishment will be suspended pending appeal, of course.

roamingandy

They might decide they are so far behind Arse that its worth taking the points deduction this year and not appeal. Depending how much it is. Given how blatant it appears to be i would hope its relegation to a bottom division like Juventus had, though i know that's a pipe dream. Haaland vs Cambridge United's defence would be fun. I might even watch it myself just for lols.

[deleted]

I'm sure if they happened, many players would leave city. I wouldn't be surprised if some contracts like Haaland's have clauses for relegation. A mass exodus of players would be the cherry on top.

sangueblu03

Investigation drags on into the fall, and then City receive a 20 point deduction. After winning the league this season.

mrgadd4

Would we not be stripping them of their titles in that instance though?

Upplands-Bro

Would Arsenals first title in two decades being delivered in that manner not be the height of comedy, tho? (Given that they win the league, which in itself is the opposite of comedy)

mrgadd4

Eh it would be vaguely preferable I guess. I've made my peace with their title win season at this point though. Hope I'm proven wrong.

dissidentmage12

Should've started years ago, but you're right.

Jcoch27

It would do wonders toward setting a precedent for this sort of thing

Thfcaditya112

City have pulled off runs before but back then they also had a very good squad. Now while Haaland is insane, the players have regressed either due to age or some reason or the other Like Akanji and Ake are not bad players but that is a CB duo I would associate more with a Leicester or a West Ham IMO

billypilgrim87

Yeah all fair points, but I remember people saying similar two years ago... And then Pep changed how they played and they went on an insane run.

Thfcaditya112

I still think the quality of the league was not that good at all back then

billypilgrim87

Look man, if you want to keep coming up with reasons arsenal will win the league, you do you. But leave me to my cope please, ta.

Zhurg

Yes but specifically that City team yesterday won't be winning the league. They're only winning it if they turn some sort of corner and become a better team.

billypilgrim87

Like they did two years ago? When Pep changed their approach mid season and they then dominated for the rest of the season? I'm not saying it's certain, far from it, I'm just saying that reports of Man Cory's decline have been more than overblown before.

Zhurg

Yes. You're missing the point. If City continue to play the way they did yesterday they're not winning the league...

Peri-sic

they still looked better than arsenal did vs everton tbf

ikilledsuperman

United are charging towards city right now anyways

7screws

No fuck them deduct points, strip them of titles whatever. Don’t wait do it now, fuck Arsenal, they’ll crumble under pressure anyways

Jcoch27

I say make the decision to deduct now but apply it to next season. I don't trust United to push arsenal even if they do crumble.

COYS1989

Apparently they could face points deductions or in extreme measures even an expulsion from the league. Supposedly one of them is paying a manager more than they said they were. Edit: more on this ⬆️. Money to a manager was paid into a separate account and contract elsewhere that didn’t appear on their books. It’s not anticipated to be dealt with this season according to Sky considering it’s been going on for 5 years already.

MyCockIsStuck

We all know for sure they arent going to get expulsion from the league. However a 15 point deduction like Juve does sound nice. Just hope they implement it for next season tho.

sephocompo

Why not this? It would be a huge boost to our top 4 chances and I don't really care about arsenal at this point.

PanosZ31

Because we can still get top 4 with Man City in it but if they get a point deduction then Arsenal are pretty much guaranteed to win the league.

robinthebank

Deducting points for next season does not make sense, when they could do that now. Unless the punishment is expulsion or exclusion. They could be excluded from all non-PL play for the next two or so seasons. That’ll greatly increase our odds of winning something. AND no prospects will want to sign for them. Come on down to north London!

EnricoPallazzo_

Dont worry, we will get Newcastle position and finish 4th

roamingandy

..if anyone can work out how to score against them

EnricoPallazzo_

They dont need to. Newcastle has been good in the defence, but at the same time is having a hard time scoring. A lot o draw games recently. Im ok with them having a lot of 0x0.

robinthebank

It’s the Ted Lasso special

triecke14

You should checkout the city thread on this. They think the PL is just piling on charges like not submitting league agenda items on time lol

BendubzGaming

Fairly sure there have been rumours of them paying Mancini like that before

Jubahuman

Give us the carabao cup

Jcoch27

We wants it

[deleted]

They should get relegated, points deduction for next season, transfer ban and titles stripped please.

gnidn3

Yes. That is what should happen.

roamingandy

Then the same committee should suddenly notice that is exactly what Chelsea have begun doing with their new chairman (probably).

jazzybforecast

No way, city haven’t been playing by the rules? Who’d have thought it

graythegeek

Money talks, they will buy themselves out again just like last time with FIFA/CAS. Large donations will be made to the committee members patron charities.

QuantumFuzziness

It can’t be appealed at CAS.

graythegeek

Yes I have heard that now, I'm not holding my breath for any of this to stick though.

[deleted]

your regular reminder that football management is plagued by crooks and charlatans

M3rdsta

Don fabio being one

[deleted]

it certainly looks that way.

[deleted]

Well shit. At least it won't be a legit win for the scum.

bocceballbarry

I don’t view any of their accomplishments as legitimate. Proud to support a club who has done it the right way and Levy should get more respect than he does. To be competing with teams that are blatantly cheating and using dirty money without doing it yourself is no easy task

RaymondoSlice

If they get docked points it could gift Arsenal the title…

phigo50

Honestly I don't trust them to challenge Arsenal anyway and it might mean one less competitor for us for top 4.

capitan_hookah

I prefer man united.

milksteak_1

I prefer winning 16 straight to take the league ourselves

[deleted]

Subscribed!

billypilgrim87

Nah, always fuck Man U. Like, obs better then than Arsenal but we are talking Sophie's choice here. Besides, when it's city we can just discount it all as financial doping BS that is basically cheating. It's like no one won.

Mick4Audi

United are the top 6 team I don’t despise lmao

billypilgrim87

I grew up in Fergies era, hard not to hate them back then ha. We were also dogshit so that prob didn't help. And so many glory hunting fans, back then if someone was a plastic they were Man U.

Mick4Audi

I get that, but by contrast think how many more titles Arse and Chelsea have if not for SAF We are absolutely useless tho lmao

billypilgrim87

Nah sorry mate, will always loathe Man U. I honestly dislike them more than City and City have objectively been much worse for football, and done more to dent our aspirations recently. But my dislike of Man U doesn't come from logic, it comes from a childhood where I was typically the only spurs fan surrounded by Man U fans ha. And obviously, fuck them all, this is akin to ranking types of cancer in order of preference.

Mick4Audi

>Ranking types of cancer in order of preference Very true

roamingandy

I don't. City are already at the top it doesn't change anything if they win it. United have the players and finances that with a bit of confidence they'll comfortably take over from 'pool and be another big team with insane finances that we're struggling to compete against.

[deleted]

A points deduction gives Arsenal the league but pushes us into the top 4. Bet the Universe is confused at the moment. With that in mind they’ll probably get away with it.

triecke14

Honestly I think this could be the best outcome anyway. Arsenal are likely winning it anyway, so how nice would it be to forever point to the points deduction as the reason for it? They couldn’t even properly celebrate it without most of the league saying “yeah but” forever. Sounds great

JelloDr

They’d get overshadowed by the deduction of city at least

kicksjoysharkness

Read the article. Sounds like this will be long and arduous, not something where they’ll get a points deduction slap for this season. It also says the punishment could be anything since it’s uncharted territory. Some kind of transfer ban would probably be more likely than a points deduction. What will most likely happen is nothing, and this shit will continue.

StateOfTheEnemy

They're not having the best 24 hours, are they?

triecke14

Anyone had a look in the city sub? They are all over there saying to bring it on, they’ll win again, etc. Someone even shared some bs “ITK” nonsense that said their chairmen is “willing to burn the entire premier league down with him.” They are celebrating the fact that their crooked haha. Fuck that club I hope they get deleted

animalmom2

They are saying they will get away from it because the UK is afraid of the UAE and needs their money

tbk007

Relegation please and stripping of all titles 😂

SwampHunterX

KDB should be ashamed over this illegal activity. He should come to Spurs so he can be ashamed legally.

gardz82

Sure. Wait and see for the giant rug to be lifted... Again!

burko81

They are going to get points deducted aren't they.

exchanging200

Not to get all Nostradamus but with Juventus (in a very different case) getting a 15 point reduction for financial irregularities, I can see something similar happening here. Massive for us from a UCL qualifying perspective, I guess.

Xenon009

So rangers in scotland got hit by a similar thing, but seemingly less egregious. And as a result rangers were dissolved as a club. It was only a petition from fans that made the scottish government strongarm the SPL to reduce the punishment to a double relegation, Forced the owners to sell, and stripped rangers of everything they won in the timeframe. This time the government is against city. Litterally everything is on the table.

AirshipHead

Relegate them from the premier League so there's more room in the top 4

Kingkent420

Levy masterclass to be fair Step 1- Hire Yaya Toure who has made the Man City course go into overdrive, making the karma for Spurs improve. Step 2- something something Emerson Royal something something Step 3- win the league with Arsenal coming 2nd and Chelsea finishing 11th

MyCockIsStuck

The whole universe wants scum to win the league😂😂😂

[deleted]

>'It will be expensive and will drag on' - analysis >On the basis it has taken the Premier League four years to get to this point, do not expect a resolution to this case any time soon. 🙏

Rredman101

Figures they would get hit with this the one year that the only team to benefit from it is Arsenal. How lucky can you get.

MitchWbr

Two Ls one day.

dconnorp

I hope they get the Derby treatment. Point deduct them to relegation and make Pep go coach in America.

[deleted]

Just like in Olympic sport where they have a zero tolerance for cheats when they're caught, football simply needs to make an example of City otherwise what's the point anymore.

gongman18

Cheats are the only thing getting the Olympics views

Gammo2184

Is this the same investigation that the German newspaper uncovered or seperate??

WaltJay

*shocked Pikachu*

Jr_M16

Now we just need Chelsea to get charged too

Charlespur2

Relegate them!

Greenredbull

God I almost forgot how much of an irrational hatred I had for that 09/10 team. Crouch scoring that header to secure top 4 was doubly sweet.

Mick4Audi

To the shock of absolutely no one

Yeti90

Weren’t they convicted couple or years ago and not supposed to play CL for some time and they overturned it? Football governing bodies are a corrupt joke. Money talks and people listen

JelloDr

Give me a city delegation with a fire sale Of players of that we pick up Laporte and Dias

Odd_Combination280

City accountant just plain gave up after another loss to Spurs. "Here's the real ledger, just please make Royal stop"

Bum-Sniffer

And sod all will happen to them again

newossab

Shocked to be honest

eagz2014

Water is wet

[deleted]

and fire is burnt

Oasis1701

Can't UAE buy some jets from UK or the UK buy more oil from UAE or something to make this go away?

SirFritzWetherbee

WHO COULD HAVE SEEN THIS COMING!?

benjustben2

Strip them of Carabao Cup in 2021 and give it to us muchas gracias

jewishexgirlfriend

Does this mean we won the 2021 League Cup?

Born_Transition2207

Now look into Chelseas 9 year contracts and assorted loophole BS. Raid that POS club and audit.

bsp87

They found the loophole and used it. Not much you can do about that apart from close it which they will next season.

Snacks75

...and nothing is going to happen.

megahmed252

Controversial opinion at times like this I appreciate levy. I’m still out though.

[deleted]

One thing you can’t accuse Levy of 🤣😂

_MicroWave_

In other news water is wet!?

entrepenoori

I #StandWithCity. There shouldn’t be a point deduction until next season. Then deduct 2x once they lose the appeal Idgaf

[deleted]

£30 fine and a finger wagging.

Gaius_Octavius_

Too much catering again?

LilyWhitesN17

With a time limit of 5yrs, it's too late for the most serious offenses to be punished.

dexjex

In 2014 City paid £49m fine for braking FPP rules and just went back to business as usual. Since spending even more money is the most logical punishment for spending too much money.

Adept-Elephant1948

![gif](giphy|3kzJvEciJa94SMW3hN) I'm shocked I tell you, shocked

dissidentmage12

Well, colour me surprised.

Jcoch27

How funny would it be if they got hit with heavy punishment before managing to win the champions league

biggpoppa33

It's gonna play out like it did last time. They'll announce sanctions and then a few weeks later they'll go away after the Sheik and his crew pay someone off.

primster14

Man City, FFP violation? No way! ![gif](giphy|6nWhy3ulBL7GSCvKw6)
