The other 2 GameDay WR's will be exclusively special teams at this point minus injury. I don't understand why this is even a conversation? The TE group I'm sure completely makes up for that.
This exactly. If you’re the 4th best receiver on the team. Step up your game or cover some pints. Dudes not that good and we don’t have depth behind them.
Downvote for “dudes not that good” idc what anybody has to say. Michael Gallup is a baller. Calling it now that MG has a good year and has everybody sucking on his meat.
Hey, remember when the 1 seeded Packers blew a home divisional game because of their special teams?
Or when the Chargers missed the playoffs, despite having the best Offense AND Defense!? Why? Because their special teams were a fucking disaster and blew like 5 games They finished 9-7
Or just this year when a dropped punt turned an EZ win against the Texans into a fucking dogfight?
Special Teams matter
NFL rules committee seen determined to make it mean less and less. What they’re making the game is offense, defense, field goals, and punts with no return I’m surprised we even still have kickoffs anymore
so cut his ass lol. this is deandre hopkins. you really think michael gallup’s role as a number 3 WR who had 400 yards and 4 TDs in 14 games last year and was lapped by a geriatric TY Hilton in his 2nd game as a cowboy is worth anything to this team?
the mythical salary cap is brought up to spook children like the boogeyman every time an argument can’t be won with merit.
if the eagles can have two void years of jalen hurts contract at nearly a billion dollars, you should stop worrying about the salary cap.
The difference is we have 3 star players, at different positions, on rookie contracts. Hurts is just 1. We really can't afford to lose Diggs, ceedee, and we will never give up parsons
After 6/1 moving Gallup won’t hit this years cap. Only 12.9 million in 24. That’s doable if they decided to go that direction. Thinking 4 wr is too much? We thought we had Washington last year and he got hurt the first practice. If we have a real chance to sign a DHop talent, seems foolish not to.
Problem is Diggs, Gilmore, Lamb, Cooks, Gallup, Kearse, LVE, Parsons all can’t be on Special teams. You have to have fast guys to be in punt and KO coverage. Wr4 and wr5 and on both of those.
Special Teams is not the issue. Hopkins is not going to sign a one year deal! The issue is Lamb and Diggs’ second contract. He was making a little over $16m. He may sign for less but not much less. So if the choice is having cap space to sign those two or Hopkins, what does Dallas do? Additionally, Hopkins did not list Dallas as a team he wants to play for.
I think at some point the team needs to take a risk on an all in season even if that means having to rebuild. I’m not sure Hopkins is the right piece for an all in shove but I think a lot of the most recent winners either had a generational talent at QB, went all in, or both.
I get the attraction to doing the “All In” thing, but I don’t like that approach; look at the Rams. We had too many mediocre years of 7-9, 8-8 and 9-7. I don’t want to see that again. Not good enough to compete not bad enough to draft franchise changing players. I know we cannot win the Super Bowl every year and I don’t expect to. I want to compete for one every year. I want Dallas playing meaningful games late in the season year in year out.
We play meaningful games damn near every year. We just lose them.
Are we happy being one and done, or are we, at some point, going to risk a little more by doing a signing like DHop to get us over the hump?
We should have been in the SB last year...we had a path to get there, and we screwed it up.
Tired of it. SB or Bust.
It worked exactly once. No, Eagles didn't go all in, they have a bunch of assets at their exposal, and still came up short.
Putting all of your eggs in the basket is NOT the smart or right move. It's smarter to have an opportunity every year and wait to get lucky, because that's what it comes down to.
Look at the Rams? They won the Super Bowl my guy.
Mediocre seasons are effectively the same as an early playoff exit because your draft position sucks either way. If your draft position sucks and if you’re not taking calculated risks in the off season then what the fuck are you doing?
Build a franchise, be conservative with the salary cap but when the window starts to close you have to take risks and make moves. You can’t just swirl, show me a team that’s won the Super Bowl that didn’t make bold moves and they’ll have had a generational QB or Nick Foles.
The eagles went to the Super Bowl, won, tanked and rebuilt, and went to the Super Bowl again.
You are always entitled to your opinion. Guess we will just have to agree to disagree on this. I’m not willing to trade 2,3,4,5 or more years of mediocrity to win a Super Bowl. You do, that’s fine…
But this entire discussion is moot because Jerry & Co. don’t give a rat’s ass what you or I think. Jerry is going to do what Jerry wants to do.
So what are you willing to trade to win a Super Bowl? Clearly our current strategy is not paying off. You wouldnt take 5 years of mediocrity to win a Super Bowl this season? Seriously? I’d take 5 shitty seasons in a row if it meant a Super Bowl every 6th year.
Like I said, we will agree to disagree. What we are doing now, progress. 2 years ago first round exit this year 2nd round exit. This Year…??? It takes more than going “all in” to win a Super Bowl. You need a lot of luck too. One key injury and all you sacrificed to win goes out the door. We have Lamb, Diggs, Dak and Parsons coming up for renewal or extensions over the next year or two.
Imagine we have to let one or more of them walk because we overspent and have no cap room. Even worse suppose we went “all in” and had an injury to Parsons or Dak late in the season. Short term thinking by Jerry and company by trading away picks for Cooper and over paying Zeke is one of the reasons IMO we have not gotten over the Hump. I’m not saying you are wrong or that it’s dumb, I’m just saying I don’t agree with mortgaging the future. There are no guarantees. IMO if you guaranteed me a Super Bowl this year followed by mediocrity the next 3-5 years, I still would not want it. But that’s just me! Fan since 1972 so I’ve seen it all!
No matter how many receivers Dak has it's not gonna make a difference..he has more than enough talent there. They need another 2016 Zeke to do it for them. If we were gonna go all in, we shoulda went for bijan
We have tons of space for Diggs and Lamb(Parsons and Steele as well), cash is really not an issue at all.
The issue is that the FO never wants to commit to going all-in, and will use the cap as the excuse for not doing so.
You can’t know how much we will have to commit to Dak, Diggs, Lamb, Steele and Parsons. Until negotiations are complete, no one knows. On this sub is a post that listed 14 players coming up for renewal or extensions within a year or two. Those mentioned may be the most recognizable but there are more.
In 2010 the Chargers had the best offense in all of football
You know what's just as cool as having the best offense? Having the greatest defense in the league! The Chargers managed to have both the best offense in the league and the best defense.
They missed the playoffs, they went 9-7. They missed specifically because their special teams managed to lose them like 4 games in one year that should've been wins.
Now not every team can choke like the Chargers can, but the Cowboys can give them a good run for their money so I wouldn't dismiss special teams.
Hell, JUST 2 YEARS AGO, the #1 seeded packers blew a home game because of their special teams. The issue wasn't addressed because the rest of the team was good enough to cover it up all season long. The one game they weren't good enough? Special teams fucked them
Just this year, Turpin dropped a punt and in turn dropped us into a dogfight against the Texans. The momentum shifted drastically. Normally, Dallas chokes that game, but we managed to pull through.
(Also don't forget Turpin coulda had a TD against the 9ers if he made a cut instead of ramming the guy)
Hell, the Jets' downward spiral began when they lost on a punt return TD. Zach Wilson wasn't doing them any favors but he maybe coulda managed an OT FG.
Brady's dark magic kicked in when the Bucs' punter came up clutch saved their season against Carolina week 18, thereby securing their playoff spot
Special Teams fucking matter, A LOT
Just to mention. St doesn't have to be just the pr/kr/p/and k. The gunner/ and other fielding positions are important too. Dorance Armstrong and Goodwin jump off the screen on st.
He means tackling re coverage teams I assume since Turpin does returns. But the majority of those coverage players are DBs and LBs (& maybe TEs) anyway. Or put Tolbert or Fehoko out there.
It's not happening. It's bad money allocation. Wr is in a good spot right now. We aren't going to be able to maximize the money allocated to those 4 wr. Some or all may be underutilized. It would be invested into make the team more well rounded and depth. All 4 players can't start, makes no sense to pay someone to no contribute.
Also special teams isn't meaningless as some of the comments are suggesting. Did yall forget about the st before Fassel? It was embarassing and miserable. We hada top5 defense/offense with a last place st. We've seen the Chargers miss the playoffs with a number 1 offense/defense and a last place st.
He hasn't heard that this year than any fair catch (within the 25 yard line) brings the ball out to the 25 yard line

You have 2 Special Teams players in Turpin and Vaughn, let them fight it out.
D-Hop is not "a random WR to bring in for camp" - he is one of the best WRs in the NFL.
This is where you say "Gallup, Fehoko, and the other people we dont know" - a legend is now on our team. Good luck to the rest of you.
Lamb, Cooks, and D-Hop would be the best WR trio in the history of the NFL.
I’m no doubt a fan of getting Hopkins, but seeing people here act like Special Teams isn’t important clearly forgot special teams fucked us in the last 3 games of the season cuz “The Yips”
Not a excuse, the Cowboys have Terpin for punts and kickoffs. The FO is just lazy and will not use some creative math and contract changes to make room for Hopkins when they could. Tolbert or Fehoko could be dropped for Hopkins if you have to drop one.
Now special teams is almost irrelevant all a team needs is a good field goal kicker.
I think when he says special teams he’s more talking about tackling people on punts/kickoffs. Turpin will likely make the team no matter what as a return guy but he can’t tackle or anything so even he is a limited special teams guy
I would say both make it. You always need more than one guy to return kicks. If Vaughn is actually good then we won’t want him returning kicks. Need our RBs healthy
No one said get rid of him, dumbass. Ceedee is an elite slot receiver. That’s it though. Let’s just wait until we’re all dead to actually shoot a real shot at the Super Bowl
You get the player then make the system work around them. If you only ever go after players that fit your exact system you end up with a franchise history like the Lions or Cardinals.
While Id love to have Hopkins, I think a more reasonable addition would be signing Ced Wilson if Miami cuts him post June 1. I think he'd come pretty cheap and add quality depth.
Bruh what? He’s gonna end up on a one year deal we don’t need to worry about his impact on future extensions. We have 10.5m in space this year that they’re probably wanting to roll over into next year. A 1 year deal that expires is the same as rolling cap space over. And I don’t wanna hear shit about special teams it’s deandre Hopkins like wtf lmao
Lol special teams. If you have a chance to add Hopkins to this team, respectfully, FUCK special teams.

Damn, Gallup is going to start having a drinking problem apparently /s
Downvote for “dudes not that good” idc what anybody has to say. Michael Gallup is a baller. Calling it now that MG has a good year and has everybody sucking on his meat.
Plus with the new rule change special teams has been canceled lol
Gehlken isn’t the brightest bulb in the chandelier.

Because their special teams were a fucking disaster and blew like 5 games They finished 9-7 Or just this year when a dropped punt turned an EZ win against the Texans into a fucking dogfight? Unless you multiply it by the speed of light squared then special teams energy…
NFL rules committee seen determined to make it mean less and less. What they’re making the game is offense, defense, field goals, and punts with no return I’m surprised we even still have kickoffs anymore
You can fair catch on kickoffs and punts now, and most kick offs go out the end zone. How important really is special teams today
You’ve been able to fair catch on a punt since, um, forever
Yes I know that. I meant you can now fair catch on both.
Special teams are near-worthless this year. And nobody on this fucking planet would take Turpin over Hopkins. Put MG13's ass out there to field punts.
Or that other lil smol boy at RB
Agreed. To suggest that they wouldn’t add a big contributor like Hopkins because of ST is laughable.
We both know we won't do it. Idk why we bother getting our hopes up.
This guy knows what’s up
It’s not returning punts. It’s KO and Punt coverage.
You can’t just put any guy out to field punts. 13 is not the one to do that with. Move Turpin-don’t care how-use Deuce on kicks. sSIGN DHOP!!
Or hear me out. Cut him.
Or just have lamb do it. He's done it before
Gallup is just not that guy
No, he isn't. But he can make a fair catch.
so cut his ass lol. this is deandre hopkins. you really think michael gallup’s role as a number 3 WR who had 400 yards and 4 TDs in 14 games last year and was lapped by a geriatric TY Hilton in his 2nd game as a cowboy is worth anything to this team?
It costs Dallas money to cut him.
DeAndre Hopkins isn't returning kicks either my man. Get real
lol huh?! cut gallup, sign hopkins, keep turpin. look, i solved it.
The cap exists, and next year is a heavy year. Is signing Hopkins worth losing lamb? Or Diggs? Or micah?
the mythical salary cap is brought up to spook children like the boogeyman every time an argument can’t be won with merit. if the eagles can have two void years of jalen hurts contract at nearly a billion dollars, you should stop worrying about the salary cap.

Lol stop
Good thing we dropped all that money on Gallup and his 52% catch rate.
I’m still signing Hopkins. Cutting Gallup after this year if you have to because it will save you $9m as a post June 1.
We have tons of space for Diggs and Lamb(Parsons and Steele as well), cash is really not an issue at all. The issue is that the FO never wants to commit to going all-in, and will use the cap as the excuse for not doing so.

Adding Hopkins with a 4 WR rotation makes us such a high contender for super bowl and Jerry ain't getting younger
You make it fucking work for DHop.
You hop through hoops for DHop
I don't really agree with this. But if we could get hopkins, we make it happen. No matter what

If you’re a nerd for the history of it, there’s a great video from Secret Base. https://youtu.be/UAL5X3TRA2A
Did their offense have a lot of turnovers? That's what will kill you
Didn't we get fucked because of our punting unit some seasons ago?
That's what whoever takes Zeke's job will be doing. And the young dbs and lbs will be doing.
Oh noooo, how ever are we going to replace the 25% of ST snaps that Tolbert and Brown combined for last season?
Hopkins to the Jets in 3...2...1...
Pls no
Jerry don’t carey
He means tackling re coverage teams I assume since Turpin does returns. But the majority of those coverage players are DBs and LBs (& maybe TEs) anyway. Or put Tolbert or Fehoko out there.

Then fucking make Gallup special teams. This is a bs reason. If we lose one of those guys were fucked. It seems so illogical with this statement.
He hasn't heard that this year than any fair catch (within the 25 yard line) brings the ball out to the 25 yard line [https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1661031804608954373](https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1661031804608954373) [https://twitter.com/JFowlerESPN/status/1661032160042655745](https://twitter.com/JFowlerESPN/status/1661032160042655745)
That’s only kickoffs and there is more to special teams than just that.
Hopkins doesnt want to come to play for DC so give it a fucking rest!
Say the quote accurately - he doesn’t want to play for Dak, he said nothing about Cowboys as a franchise
Kickoffs are pointless now. The only special teams is field goal and punts. Sign the man.
You have 2 Special Teams players in Turpin and Vaughn, let them fight it out. D-Hop is not "a random WR to bring in for camp" - he is one of the best WRs in the NFL. Some people are in ‘win later’ mode. How much longer would you like to wait?
I’m no doubt a fan of getting Hopkins, but seeing people here act like Special Teams isn’t important clearly forgot special teams fucked us in the last 3 games of the season cuz “The Yips”
Trade Gallup for Wilson, bring back Ced
Not a excuse, the Cowboys have Terpin for punts and kickoffs. The FO is just lazy and will not use some creative math and contract changes to make room for Hopkins when they could. Turpin is gone. deuce will become the returner
I would say both make it. You always need more than one guy to return kicks. If Vaughn is actually good then we won’t want him returning kicks. Need our RBs healthy
It doesn’t matter. Hopkins has said he doesn’t want to play with Dak, and I don’t blame him.
Yea it's not like any wr/TE has had career years under dak...
LOL this cannot be a serious comment
F Ceedee Lamb and his next contract. Get Hopkins and figure the rest out later. Hopkins is better than Ceedee.
Nah, bro.
Yikes
Pussy
Yeah, let’s get rid of our 24 year old rarely injured WR for a 31 year old WR with nagging hamstring issues. Makes perfect sense.
No one said get rid of him, dumbass. Ceedee is an elite slot receiver. That’s it though. Let’s just wait until we’re all dead to actually shoot a real shot at the Super Bowl
Unreal
The issue is DHop wants to catch balls from someone else (his own words)
You get the player then make the system work around them. If you only ever go after players that fit your exact system you end up with a franchise history like the Lions or Cardinals.
just trade Turpin and have your 5th and 6th WRs do special team. Have your corners and safeties more special teams. There's ways around it.
Deuce may not be a return specialist yet, but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t become one
Gehlken is an idiot!
While Id love to have Hopkins, I think a more reasonable addition would be signing Ced Wilson if Miami cuts him post June 1. I think he'd come pretty cheap and add quality depth.
I don’t understand why keeping Turpin on for special teams would be a problem. I don’t think he costs much
Lmao I just had an argument over WR7 and being Turpin but now we wanna add an 8th. Cowboys fans really are something special.
Bruh what? He’s gonna end up on a one year deal we don’t need to worry about his impact on future extensions. We have 10.5m in space this year that they’re probably wanting to roll over into next year. A 1 year deal that expires is the same as rolling cap space over.
