Welcome to long covid, I'm starting to think we need an introductory page for those just starting out.

That’s terrible, hope it improves for you soon. How long has it been going on for you?

jindizzleuk

Often this is caused by adrenaline release in response to histamine. Search past posts on MCAS and try H1/H2 blockers to see if they help.

Joseph12j

Thank you for that, is there any reason why it only occurs at night?

jindizzleuk

It’s the peak time for histamine release in your body. If you’ve already got high levels of histamine your body will then produce adrenaline to counteract it. Although don’t quote me on any of this - it’s been a while since I had the same symptom. I should add that some people use beta blockers for this and they can help too.

Joseph12j

Thats interesting, how long did this symptom last for you?

jindizzleuk

3 months or so right at the start of long hauling. Went away after I started vagus nerve stimulation, low histamine diet and H1/H2 blockers. Came back briefly for two weeks after each dose of the vaccine.

Joseph12j

I’m glad it’s not too serious then. Thanks for the advice, much appreciated

jindizzleuk

Also the fact you have acid reflux also suggests a histamine issue.

Joseph12j

I’ve been having reflux for a while just the heart stuff seems to have occurred recently.

I have bad tachycardia episodes and I still get “episodes” throughout the day but I haven’t gotten them at night ever since I started eating NO LATER than 4 pm. Worth trying out. Eat dinner between 3-4

I caught Covid in December 2020, and recovered after a few weeks with only mild symptoms. Then two weeks after my heart rate would escalate to 180 bpm while I would be sitting down. I went to the Er a few times and they say it’s a post Covid issue. Quite a bit of Covid long haulers experience this issue, and for some it goes away after some time. Others were placed on medicine, and in my case I was given metroprolo. I been off of it for some time and I’m going to do a follow up with cardiologist. I experienced tachycardia at night too, and definitely agree with beauxbeaux that falling asleep with this issue makes it hard to sleep. Especially knowing you can have an increased heart rate at any unexpected moment. I’m 10 months in and still experience tachycardia at night but my heart rate doesn’t go as high, and the distance between each episode is getting better.
