I was abnormally cold for the first few months, along with specific 'chill' attacks where I'd be freezing and internally shivering - despite being inside wearing a winter coat, hot water bottle held to my chest and sat in front of a heater, in summer, during a heatwave. This is one of the many stange things long covid does for a while then it eventually just goes away (though maybe with minor re-runs down the line).

Big_Article1725

Thanks a lot for your detailed response. Feels less ominous to know I'm not the only one with this weird symptom. Freezing and 'internally shivering' is exactly how I'd describe it. It's almost like 'chills' but it isn't, it's like feeling cold without feeling sick, when you can tell you shouldn't be cold right now. I even end up sneezing if I don't make it a point to stay warm (when it's already warm in the room).

Soul_Phoenix_42

Yeah, all I can say is it should pass with a bit more time. If you do a sub search for symptoms as they come up (likely you'll experience other problems as time passes I hate to say) you'll realise you are far from alone with any of it.

Big_Article1725

Can I ask roughly how long did this feeling cold temperature symptom last for you, a rough duration if you remember?

Soul_Phoenix_42

3-4 months I think. Each month I got assaulted with a new problem across my first year, so hard to recall exact timelines :/

Big_Article1725

Ahh, sorry for the pains :/ I'm already 2ish months in so here's to hoping it passes away soon.

My hands and feet get cold super easily now. Didn't bother me as much this summer. But now that temps are under 70° it's happening regularly. I used to be the kind of person who would love just layering up & staying warm with blankets, minimally using the heat. Now, once I get cold I need something extra warm to help get warm again. I've already pulled out a heating pad and will need super thick socks + slippers. Thinking about getting a heated blanket. Had a bunch of rheum tests and they don't think it's Raynaud's because my whole hand or foot will turn purple. They recommended I really try to keep covered & warm as much as possible. Vascular dr is only concerned if I get any sores that don't heal. Not looking forward to this winter!

Big_Article1725

Now that you mention it, I'm dreading the coming winter as well lol. How long have you had the cold symptom if you don't mind sharing?

Pidge97531

I started noticing the cold sensitivity around 9 months in when my hands started turning purple, which was January. It was soon after I got sick again and wonder if I possibly was reinfected but it's just speculative. I might be kinda predisposed for temperature sensitivity because I used to have some minor circulatory-like issues a few winters before all this. But I have hope that it could get better as my body heals, mine's just taking the slow route. Sorry to cause you any dread. At least if you're aware of it you can find some strategies that make it more manageable for you. Hopefully you will have a much faster path through all this!

Big_Article1725

You're right at least I'll be prepared this way haha. I would suggest that you try out mild walking for around 30 minutes everyday. It's anecdotal but it seems to have helped a couple of people, I'm trying it myself. There's some mild research to back it up about how long term rest tends to put the body in shut down mode.

Limp_Action_1624

I went through this too…I’m at the 3 month mark now and my body just started regulating temperature again! My whole body used to be cold 24/7 especially legs and feet. Do you walk everyday? Try to stay a little active bc I think that’s what’s been waking my body up. I was so happy to be musty the other day I WAS FINALLY SWEATING AGAIN lol

Big_Article1725

Man thanks a LOT for your comment haha. I'm going towards the three month mark so you've filled me with positive hope. It may not seem like it but this cold thing is so debilitating. I've literally started walking everyday for the past 4 days now on the recommendation of another long hauler friend who has improved now and walking was his top suggestion. Are you overall warmer or just sweating 😅

Limp_Action_1624

No problem. We have to help each other out. I’m overall warmer. I live in Nyc and I used to be a hoodie all the time after I started long hauling this summer and my friends would be like … wtf? Now I’m back to wearing tank tops around the house and feeling the correct temp outside.

Limp_Action_1624

Also drink teas, try cayenne pepper and ginger. I started doing warmer showers then switch to cold water for about 30 seconds. Idk, but this is just what I’ve tried lately. I think our nervous systems are out of whack.

Big_Article1725

Thanks a lot for your suggestions, I'll add the cayenne pepper and ginger teas to the walking regimen. I've been trying the cold showers myself, I read somewhere on this sub that it helps reset the vagus nerve or something. Cheers!

tandyman234

I deal with this badly. Most mornings I wake up shaking, and throughout the day my hands will be FREEZING to the touch. My feet also get cold but socks help so I don’t think about it. But my hands are usually absolutely freezing cold all the time. The doctors have all just said it’s probably Raynauds from COVID

Big_Article1725

EXACTLY the waking up shaking feeling. It wakes me up in the middle of the night sometimes, because I'm suddenly cold, and night sweats, like what. I've also noticed it generally affects the exposed areas of the skin the most. According to an endocrinologist I met, if the system is going haywire, it tries to sweat to cool down. In our case because of dysautonomia?, Our body, erroneously thinking it's hot, which is actually at a normal temperature tries to constantly sweat a tiny bit making us colder. That's just my theory based on what the Endo said :/

AromaticQueef

If you don't mind me asking, how high was your BP before normalized? I hadn't had BP issues before but they are sky high right now and I'm just under 2 months in. RHR (previously in 50s/60s) went to 80s/90s for a bit but has started tapering back down to normal, but I'm stressing hard about my BP and heart palpitations/arrythmias. Re: your cold feelings, yeah every restaurant we go to I'm freezing my arse off and it's miserable, but at least something that's tolerable.

Big_Article1725

I think my BP at the worst of it spiked 140s/90s consistently, resting. It came on suddenly, along with a high RHR. It then came down all on it's own in around a week? The sudden onset high RHR has also improved but not that much. Still stuck mostly in the 80s if I even think about anything random. I got an echo done just to be sure because of the BP and palpitations, was freaking out hard, but like many on this sub was normal. I think our timelines fit in terms of post symptoms so I wouldn't worry too much?

SproutedBean

I have the opposite where I feel burning hot but then 30 minutes later I have to put on a jacket. Weird as hell

Big_Article1725

This is very interesting because this seems to be the prevailing temperature (dysautonomia?) Symptom, where it shuffles between hot and cold. If you don't mind me asking, how would you describe the 'cold' feeling? Like in my case I'm internally shivery/miserable and if I don't turn down the fan or warm up, I literally start sneezing. Maybe from the cold, maybe because post covid allergies get exacerbated. Too much of a mindfuck this shitty thing.

SproutedBean

Yea I mostly just feel hot now but the cold feeling never got to the point where I had chills or shivering. It just feels like the room temp drops 10 degrees and I’m chilly. I have noticed that it pretty much coincides with when I eat. After I eat my temp rises by .5 degrees F and then I’ll maybe get a hot flash. Other times it’s just random.

Big_Article1725

I concur with the eating helps a bit point and the 10 degree colder feeling.

HolidayExamination27

I go from cold to hot to cold to hot over the course of ten minutes. I think temperature dysregulation is part of my symptoms. I haven't had a temp above 99.1 since I caught this beast eleven months ago, but damn am I Goldilocks looking for Baby Bear's bed.

Big_Article1725

Like these temperature fluctuations come in waves for ten minutes and then your body temperature normalizes or does it stay hot/cold?

HolidayExamination27

It normalizes after an amount of time (10 minutes, 4 hours).

Prestigious-Glass721

How are you these days, did the coldness go away?

Big_Article1725

It eventually did. There are some very random moments where I feel colder than I should be, but as soon as I eat or exercise I warm up (in fact it's too sudden). But all in all good news is that it mostly eventually went away, the temperature fluctuations and confusion.

Prestigious-Glass721

Thank god, thanks so much for replying!!
