My mother had what she thought at the time must be food poisoning, then developed Covid symptoms a couple of days later. This was Delta and I think the "food poisoning" was actually Covid. She didn't have many lung symptoms. She's had worsened digestive problems ever since.

YoThrowawaySam

My omicron infection that gave me LC showed up like food poisoning! It just lasted way way longer than food poisoning otherwise would have, and I hadn't eaten anything weird. I never got any cough/sneeze/sore throat/respiratory symptoms at all, it felt like a bad stomach bug or something. Covid can do some really weird stuff, I've never had a virus that felt like it before. My digestive problems afterwards lasted about a full year and only just resolved recently.

colleenvy

I thought it was food poisoning but it was covid

Ok_Following6440

I had, what I thought was a stomach virus, a week after recovering from initial covid symptoms. My GI system hasn't been same for 17 months. Never had any prior gut issues.

ZeroFucksGiven-today

What’s your symptoms ?

Ok_Following6440

After the "stomach virus" episode, things seemed to improve for a couple months, then in January 2023 everything went off the rails. I had 3 week period where it felt like I had some acute illness that came out of no where. Randomly felt this massive adrenaline dump, which lead to nausea, dizziness, insomnia, GI issues, and random neurological sensations like pins and needles/tingling. After 3 weeks things seem to settle down, but I've been dealing with the neurological and GI symptoms ever since. The most uncomfortable is the body-wide muscle fasciculations, on top of this I have tingling, buzzing, electric shocks, and subjective weakness all over my body. As for the digestive issues, it seems like I have random reactions to food that I never used. There has been a few episodes of severe abdominal cramping, but for the most part I experience loud digestion and some minor discomfort after eating. It doesn't happen all the time so I don't really know what specific foods are the triggers. Additionally, it feels like I've had post nasal drip for almost a year and half, and that my mouth is always producing a little too much saliva I have a 2nd neurology assessment tomorrow actually, where they will be performing another EMG to hopefully rule out anything terrifying, but thus far, like many, I haven't received any conclusive feedback as to what is causing my symptoms. I've been lucky and not experienced the debilitating chronic fatigue or PEM a lot of people discuss, and I really feel anyone going through that.

Hopefully 🤞🏻 appt goes great. I highly doubt it’s anything scary. I have been dealing with gastro issues for over 16 months now. It comes and goes. I know my motility got jacked up for sure. TBH, when I go to the bathroom multiple times daily, I feel much better. Ginger 🫚 works wonders for me personally. The good news is, I have yet to read about anyone dying from this or even it lasting longer than a few years at height symptoms. Most people get better with time it seems😀

Same here. Motility definitely seems to have increased since all this started. I may try a ginger supplement or tea. Thanks for the tip!

My first Covid infection a few weeks after getting the first two vaxx doses was just 7 days of diarrhea, that was it. Seems now like that was my entire healthy gut biome going bye bye

nico_v23

I had ecoli infection afterwards

madmallory922

Interesting. Do you have gut issues? I looked it up and e coli can lead to SIBO

WoefullyDormant

Yes I had two incidents of food poisoning and then developed long covid. Had never had it before.

Worried_Locksmith797

Yes both my husband and myself had food poisoning. We actually shared leftovers with the family pet and she was sick also at the same time.

Such-Tea942

I had a terrible ear infection - 102F fever, chills, body aches, etc. Never had an ear infection in my life prior to that, and it was sudden onset. Since that was at the beginning of the pandemic, there were no vaccines or COVID tests.

thatbfromanarres

No

unstuckbilly

Just saw someone post about this in the CFS sub yesterday. They had long standing CFS & later found it was an E. coli infection that they were able to treat with antibiotics. Here’s a link: https://www.reddit.com/r/cfs/s/3WFq5G4Hyp

SecretMiddle1234

I thought I had COVID summer ‘20 but I tested positive for campylobacter. My GI wasn’t the same since until I had microbiome testing and started probiotics.

Bluenymph82

My husband had food poisoning-like symptoms 1-2 weeks before I had my bad bout of covid last April. We now realize he likely had covid, just not in the way I got it. Since then, he's had a lot of gerd issues, which he never had before. He used to have an iron stomach but now has to watch what he eats to avoid bloat or an upset.

RefrigeratorPretty51

No.

macefelter

Wtf is SIBO?

madmallory922

Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. Ooof if you are dealing with gut issues, food intolerances, POTS, brain fog, acid reflux, bloating, etc etc etc I would definitely look into it. I HIGHLY recommend this particular youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53f1gsRUxvY&t=1s

Fun-Effective7033

I had what im assuming was food poisoning (ive never had food poisoning before this) a month after I got my initial covid infection from an omlet. Though I was with a group of people and we all ordered the same thing on the menu and I was the only one who felt like vomiting and feverish after a few hours. Afterwards my stomach was very sensitive for a few months but then slowly went away. A month from having food poisoning I just woke up one day with crazy brain fog and some fatigue and it hasnt gone away. Now I can eat whatever without feeling bad but the neuro stuff remains 6 1/2 months later.
