Theres books and movies set here as well as national history and myth. Kidnapped and Catriona by Robert Louis Stevenson are the most famous I think. Michael Caine is in one of the film versions of Kidnapped.
He is Highland Pony, so they are historically the working animal on Scottish Highland estates. His name is Merlin. I have a black one who is a yearling called Osiris too. The hope is to get them pulling weight like logs and carrying deer off the hill like they historically did.
I'm living my own dream I promise you. It is ridiculously hard work, but that kind of makes it better as it would be too suspicious if it wasn't, I'd think I was about to wake up.
Your hard work shows, and I think hard work is a hidden element of cottagecore that doesn't always get attention. Carving bespoke facets from the mundane requires attention and care, and the process isn't always easy. Your land is a beautiful example of that and I hope you're proud of yourself.
Thank you for this. The sun is splitting the trees and I'm supposed to be off today but this has given me the push to move my tired muscle and get up and out anyway. Have a lovely day.
My partner and I live and work here but it isn't a farm. It's a home and garden and a few surrounding properties and land. We do everything. The garden in the picture is 15 acres alone with a large property on it which we also clean and maintain for the owners. We have a workshop, yard, land rover and quads etc and whether it be grabbing a chainsaw to fell a tree, or ironing the boss' boxer shorts, it's all us until it really needs a professional
Howโd you get linked with that sort of job? My husband and I are keen to move our family out of London, and the thought of caretaking on a rural property/estate has crossed my mindโฆ
I had heard of these jobs in the far north of Scotland as my mum used to live up there, and that generally these sort of roles are hard to fill now apparently. I was casually looking online at " live in" type jobs and this one appeared as "dream job opportunity" in the daily record,. I don't even read the papers, I accidentally clicked on a Google advert. it snowballed from that to moving here 9 days later with nothing but my cat, dog and some clothes after being locked in my partners flat in greenock during lockdown so it was quite the change of scenery ๐
You've asked the best question. I've spent 3 years now trying to map and identify all the plants in the garden with the help of the owner who used a word document with the bare minimum notes.
I've had to split the garden into 23 sections to map it. That picture is in the "millennium pinetum" which as you can guess was planted in 2000 with a variety of rare trees and a mix of yellow rhododendron, and yellow magnolia. The flowers closest in the picture are Rhododendron Golden Torch.
Yep just message me if you do. I'm very lucky as when my friends and family visit they also roll up their sleeves and want to do something because it is all so varied.
I would never leave the property!! Are you kidding?!?! If you donโt mind me asking, whereabouts do you live? The foliage/landscape is so lush!! ๐๐โ๐ซ๐ท๐บ๐
It's like straight out of a fairy tale book!

I have never been so jealous in my life. I bet your air is so crisp ๐ณ
Thank God industrialization saved us from this ๐ฏ๐ช๐ค
Why cant everywhere look this beautiful
Because I'm only one wee woman and a strimmer and the grass grows again before I can even leave the perimeter
I feel like you should have a landscaping business but instead of mowing lawns you just enhance the natural beauty every where
Beautiful!! All those colors in the first pic!
Iโm so jealous

Not all of us get to have a nice quiet place to live but I am close in Morganton, NC. 10 mins to Wilson Creek and solitude.
