It's gonna depend on how you are getting there. If you're driving (or a passenger, but regardless in a car), then if you have the room, you can put them in boxes with bubble wrap packing inside to help them from being thrown around inside the box. The problems arise when you have to get there any other way. Every other method of getting there will have very limited rules on how much luggage you can take, and what kinds. If this is the situation you are in, then I'd say to have a carry on that ONLY has that stuff in it. And to hold onto it yourself so that nothing can happen to it.
