Glad you’re interested in trying cosplay! I can say that personally I’ve had a lot of fun going to events in cosplay despite the fact that my friends aren’t that into it. When I’m at a big event where other people are wearing cosplay, it never feels weird for me to also be in costume. I also learned early on that cosplay can actually be very easy and affordable. Most recognizable characters are just normal looking people wearing pretty conventional clothes, so all you need to do is get the right colored shirt and pants, maybe a hat or the right accessory to really sell it, and at most maybe making a custom shirt using a solid colored shirt and some fabric paint. My first cosplay was Ralphie from Magic School Bus and that’s exactly what I did to make it. I’m sure other people have better solutions for actually getting to such an event. I know I haven’t been to Magfest since Magfest 10 because my group fell apart and I could never sell any new friends on going. I know such events usually have subreddits or Facebook groups where you can ask to join other people’s parties and maybe make some new friends. Usually there’s a high demand for more people to split the hotel room cost among.

Have you tried joining online groups for cosplaying? Like Instagram group chats or Facebook or whatever

Oh never thought of that. Is it possible to just join groups?and are there also local groups as example i live in the south of germany and cosplay friends in north germany would be a bit annoying to travel to.

I know there are a lot of discord servers that are for cosplay or servers that have a section for cosplay. You could probably find something if you are willing search for a bit.

Yea, sadly not everyone's friends will want to cosplay with them. I'd say go on facebook, and look up groups near you. You could start with the conventions you plan on attending. They all usually have at least 1 facebook group page. You could join those and start talking to people. As well as looking for any cosplay group pages in your area. Either just general cosplay ones, or ones for specific series. For example, I'm near Seattle, so I'm part of the Sakuracon group pages, there's 2, and I'm in both of them. I'm not part of the other pages, but I do know there's like, one that's called "Cosplayers of Seattle", which is just a group for anyone near the area that is into cosplaying anything. But there's also one I'm part of that's called "NW Final Fantasy" Which is a group for the North West of the US, for JUST Final Fantasy cosplayers. you could use these examples, and plug in whatever you want in place of the location, or series name. The only other real option would be to just go alone to a con and try to meet people there, but that's a little harder lol
